17 Chapter 017 - Jie-Wai's Depressed

Time flew by quickly and it has been almost a year since the manual operated washer has been made. The laundry business profit has increased tenfold and soon many people followed their business structure. Just as Emma had said before, people not only followed their business structure but also invented similar manually operated washers. Due to that, they have taken the next step according to Emma's previous business proposal. They have stopped the home laundry service and starts pushing out the small washer for sale that's for home use. Once again, they have started another trend and their business just keeps on growing.

Jie-Jun has brought more lands to build factories, so they can build the washers and dryers for sale. The workers that do home laundry service has been transferred to Emma's new factory to make skincare products. Her skincare product has grown so much that it has become well known in foreign countries too. The Logi family has become extremely well known throughout the country and even nearby countries. Many people have sent marriage proposals to Emma but have all been rejected by her.

Inside Jie-Jun's restaurant, Emma is having lunch with her husbands. It's a hot summer day and Emma misses her favorite ice cooling drinks and her favorite ice cream. In this world, there's no refrigerator but they do have an icehouse. Not everyone can afford to build an icehouse and import ice. But most high-class restaurant and wealthy people have an icehouse, so this restaurant and Emma's house also have one. But the icehouse is used to store food and sometimes to chill drinks only.

"It's so hot today, you should try some of our new chilled gelatin cake and plum juice that's new on our menu," Jie-Jun said as the server placed the food on the table.

Seeing the new menu items, Emma can't help but immediately taste it. It was good, but, not really to her taste. In the other world where she's from, she has been spoiled by all different kind of favors. And as a frugal person, she will never spend any extra money to eat out, so she took free culinary classes in high school. The laundry business is doing well, maybe it's time expand the restaurant now.

"Hm...it taste good and the plum juice really cools me down in this kind of hot weather," Jie-Wai said as he's enjoying the new menu items.

"Do you like it, Emma? We have started selling it in the restaurant since last week and it's doing very well with our customers." Jie-Jun said.

"Hm...it's good, but I think it can be better. My mother loves food from her country, so my fathers have been learning how to cook food from other counties. And I have also learned cooking from them and read lots of cookbooks. If you don't mind, I can come up with some new dishes for you that's fit for this hot weather. If it goes well, we can open a specialty dessert shop that sells both hot and cold desserts." Emma suggested.

"That'll be great!" Jie-Jun replies, he'll never doubt Emma. Especially seeing how well her suggestions and invention helped their businesses.

As Emma and Jie-Jun happily discuss the details about the menu items and how to farther expand the restaurant food business. Jie-Wai sat quickly in his seat eating like he was invisible. He doesn't know what to say and can't help them. His brothers are doing well with all his businesses and Emma is also doing well with her business on top of helping his older brother. Even Yi-Hou has something that only he is good at and can help out in the family and business. But he is a nobody, he can't do what his brother and Yi-Hou do. All he can do is to run errands for his older brother and take care of minor things.

After lunch, Emma heads home first. She came up with new ideas for Yi-Hou to make. And one of them is a manual ice cream maker and a small portable icebox. It's going to bring another trend to this country and soon to the world. She has no doubts that it's going to make them even wealthier! She was so into her money making ideas that she neglects to notice Jie-Wai and his unhappy emotions.

That night, it was Jie-Wai's turn to sleep in Emma's room. Emma was too busy working on her new recipes and business proposals for the restaurant to notice how late it was and that Jie-Wai is waiting for her to come to bed. Jie-Wai didn't want to bother her since he couldn't help her. By the time Emma finished her work, it was already past midnight. Jie-Wai is half asleep with his eyes barely open on the bed, he's very sleepy and has to go to work early in the morning. But he wanted to wait for Emma so he tries not to fall asleep.

"If you are sleepy, you should sleep first," Emma said as she got up from her seat and walks toward the bed.

"It's okay, I want to wait for you. You finished with your work?"

"Yes, so let's sleep now." Emma got in bed and get herself comfortable to sleep.

Emma closed her eyes and tries to sleep, but something didn't feel right, but she can't put a finger to it. After a few minutes, she finally noticed that Jie-Wai is actually is a little weird. He's very quiet today, but that's still nothing the weirdest part. The reason why she finally noticed something was wrong is that he didn't touch her at all or ask her more questions about her day. Usually, when she comes to bed, they will talk a little about their day, then he will try to get intimate with her. Even if they don't end up doing anything because they are too tired or busy, her husbands will always give her a goodnight kiss and hug her to sleep.

Emma turns to face Jie-Wai, she then asks him: "Is there anything boring you?"

Jie-Wai opened his eyes, he also looks at Emma with a slightly depressed look in his eyes.

"No, there's nothing bothering me. Why did you ask?"

"You are very quiet today, so if there's anything bothering you, you can talk to me about it." Emma is talking to her husband patiently, she's trying to get him to talk. She doesn't want him to be unhappy. It is best to find out the problem early and address it before it gets worse.

"Emma, do you think I am useless? Would you mind being with a useless person like me? He sounds depressed and a little ashamed of himself.

"Why would you say that? I don't think you are useless. You work hard every day and takes your job seriously. You also get things done quickly and perfectly."

"But I can't be compared to my older brother. He's smart and is good with doing everything. Even though I work with my brother, but I don't own anything. Everything belongs to my brother and his businesses are doing very well. Emma, your business is also doing very well, not only that but you can come up so many ideas for those awesome things. Even Yi-Hou is better than me, he can help your and brother by making things for you two. On the other hand, I can't do what Yi-Hou do and I also don't have my own business or own anything. Even this house that we are living in is own by my brother." The more he talks the more depressed he feels.

Emma sighed and shakes her head. She can't believe he's worried about this kind of things. He shouldn't compare himself to others. "Jie-Wai, listen to be me. Don't compare yourself to others, to me you are a great man. Everyone has their own specialty, they will also have their pros and cons. I'll give you an example so you would understand what I mean. For example; Yi-Hou is good at making things, but he's not good dealing with others. And your older brother might be good at doing business, but he's not good at making things like Yi-Hou. You understand what I mean, right? No one is perfect."

"I...I understand, but I just feel useless compared to them." He understands what Emma is saying but he just feels useless compared to others.

"Um...how about you tell me what you like to do? People do well in things that they like to do, just like Yi-Hou. Is there anything that interests you and you like to do?

After thinking for a minute, Jie-Wai actually thought of something that he likes to do. But he feels like the thing that he likes to do is so insignificant that he feels even more depressed.

Seeing him looking a little more depressed, Emma asks, "Why are you looking more depressed? You don't have anything that you like to do?"

"There is something that I like to do, but it's something insignificant." Jie-Wai sighed.

"Nonsense, there's no such thing as insignificant in this world. So tell me about it, what do you like to do?" Emma is actually curious what he likes to do that he is considering it insignificant.

"Emma, you might not remember but I also met you when you were small. But my brother is good at talking so you talk to him more while I watch you two on the side. One time, you finally notice me and came over to talk to me. I was so happy so I picked some flowers in the garden and gave it to you. You were so happy with the flowers and smiled at me. Since then I started to like flowers and plants. You have been to my parent's mansion before and seen our garden. I planted those flowers there and because I'm good at gardening, my brother also has me managed the farm that we have."

Emma rethinks how her in law's garden looks like, she remembered that there's a lot of different kind of pretty flowers. She also remembered that Jie-Jun mentioned that they have a farm to grow their own vegetable to use for the restaurant so they don't have to buy it outside. That was actually a great idea because that way they will profit more and also have the freshest vegetables. Now that she thinks about it, she can also expand the farm for even more profits of it.

"I have a great idea! Why don't we expand the farm? Don't look down on the farmers, they are very important!" Emma said very excitingly.

"What do you mean?" Jie-Wai is getting confused with what Emma is getting at.

"What I mean is that you can be an owner and also makes things at the same. You can do both things that your older brother and Yi-Hou do. But instead of making things, you will grow it on the farm instead. Do you know how important farms are? The vegetables we use at the restaurant comes from the farm, without it, we can't cook vegetable dishes to sell. Also, I used lots of flowers to make fragrances, colors and a lot more for my skincare products. If you can grow flowers and herbs on top of vegetables, then we can save more money and make even bigger profits!"

Jie-Wai is starting to see what Emma is talking about. It's true that if he can do well with farming and gardening and make it big. He can actually make a big contribution toward the family too!

"We can import more different can of seeds for vegetables and flowers from overseas so we will have varieties that other might not have. If it gets big and we do it well, we can actually sell it to other businesses. For instance; we can sell vegetables to other restaurants, hotels, etc. That's not all, but the flowers we grow will not only supply my skincare business but also other businesses that need it. I know for sure my family will need it for their hotel. My fathers spent tons on money buying flowers to decorate their hotel all the time. But that's not all, people used tea leaves for tea. What they didn't know is that flowers also can be used to make flower tea." As Emma is explaining it to Jie-Wai, she is coming up with more ideas to expand the family business. Not only does she want to open a dessert store now, but also a specialty flower teahouse.

Jie-Wai can't believe how big the farming and gardening business can be. This is something big, very big! Can't he do it? He is starting to have doubts about himself. " Emma, it sounds so big and grand. I'm worried that I can't do it and will disappoint you."

"Silly, you don't have to do it all by yourself. Nobody is perfect and can do everything. Just like Jie-Jun, he had you helping him all these years. I don't think we can all come this far if we don't help each other out. So you don't have to worry, we will be there to help you. We can also hire more professional people to come to help us too. Tomorrow morning, we are going to have a family meeting about this. I will also make a business proposal regarding this and you can start looking for more farms to buy since we will be expanding. You don't have to worry about doing this alone, we will be there with you every step of the way."

"Thank you, Emma." Jie-Wai's extremely touched by Emma's words. Not only did she hear him out, but also come up with this idea for him to work on and to grow into a more useful person. How can he not love such an understanding wife like her? He hugs her tight in his embrace as he whispers his thanks.

"We are family, and family doesn't need to say thanks. Come on, let's sleep. It's late and we have to wake up early tomorrow." Emma is trying to get out off his tight embrace to go to sleep, but Jie-Wai won't release her.

"Wife, I'm too excited right now to fall asleep. Can we do a little bit of that right now? He continues to whisper lightly by her ear.

His whisper and his breath on her ears make her heart pounds. She nodded her head in his embrace and hugs him back harder to show her reply. Knowing her reply by her action, Jie-Wai uses his hand to life up Emmas face. The beautiful woman in front of him is his wife, someone he truly loves. He kisses her gently and soon became heavy and rough. As he kisses her, his hands reach inside her nightgown and grab the soft round chest in from of him. It feels like her big soft roundness has gotten even bigger lately.
