19 Chapter 19: I Spy
"Ah, the sun joins me once more." I call softly as the sun ascends the heavens before my eyes. I had just woken from a brief nap after discussing with Esme how to find whoever is watching me. Her big idea was to use my own set of eyes and ears. While I wouldn't be able to ever get the servants to help me spy, the house plants were a very different story. One of the fairly uncommon spells that I learned while meditating in my grove was 'Watchmen'. This seemingly useless spell would allow for me to cast a tiny portion of myself into any plant that wasn't under the control of a stronger druid. Thankfully these elves loved nature, and had flowers sitting in countless vases around the manor.
As I made my way through the manor towards the dining area I would pause and smell the flowers as often as I could. Truth be told I was creating my watchmen and as I added more eyes to my control I began to get a better idea of who, or what could be following me. It seemed that about 100 meters to my left a dark blob of...something..was sitting watching me. They had hidden very cleverly and even with all my extra eyes I could only just barely find their location. Clearly this person didn't want to be found, but who are we kidding? I would have never been able to let this go. If perhaps I hadn't gotten the quest then maybe I could have put down the issue and assumed I was merely paranoid. However, we were already well past that point. With the promise of a fantastic reward, and my own burning curiosity I would never be able to live with myself if I didn't at least try and discover them.
I dashed towards their location, but by the time I had arrived there they were truly gone. For now, that's fine. I say that more to placate myself, then it is to show any sort of validity towards the statement. I was starting to get quite irritated. "Fine then." I mumble finally making my way to the dining hall I ate at last time. None of my eyes were picking up anything in the manor that could be the shadowy blob that followed me so I quickly found a seat. It was still very early in the morning, and it seems that Lord Ravvin didn't intend to entertain anyone. I sat there waiting for a meal for about an hour before a bewildered and clearly groggy Lord Ravvin enters the hall.
"My goodness Masamune! How long have you been here?" He rushed up to me and broke my connection with my watchers. I had been staring through their eyes for a while now and I had to blink a few times to reorient myself. "Oh Lord Ravvin." I say somewhat stunned and off kilter. I shake my head firmly and focus on him. I can see his eyes are wide with surprise, but thankfully he isn't bothering with his illusion magic. His Elven heritage is on proud display. Even for a man he's quite gorgeous. "Don't worry Ravvin I am used to some odd hours. I apologize if I interrupted the flow of your morning." I say with a small smile. Ravvin had been good to me so far. The only negative things that happened were never his fault, and he seemed to be a truly good person.
Lord Ravvin slaps me on the shoulder and smiles before taking a seat next to me. "No need Masamune. We all enjoy having you here." He says kindly before clapping to alert the staff that he is ready to eat. I look at him surprised before finally asking somewhat sheepishly. "Ravvin, after we eat...." I look around and focus on my watchers to try and make sure that the my uninvited follower is not near us. "I would dearly like to speak with you about a matter that is quite....Important." I put special emphasis on the last word to try and get Ravvins attention. He turns to me and his eyes widen. Thankfully this man has more than enough tact, or perhaps discretion, to not say too much when we are not somewhere secure. He simply nods his head once and begins eating. Since the servants saw me sitting there, they brought me a plate of what Ravvin was eating. It appears to be some sort of brown mush, maybe porridge? That's odd I haven't seen something like this when I was with Maya. I shrug and try a tentative bite. The porridge, was quite good! It was made from some very fresh oats and even the cinnamon used to add more flavor seems better than what I am used to.
Quickly finishing our meal I follow Ravvin to his personal study. With the door locked I sit down on a vacant chair and Ravvin locks eyes with me. "Listen, Masamune if this is about the guards I am truly very sorry! Please don't desert us because of this petty issue! Would you prefer I fire them? Hand them to you?" Ravvin seems panicked and I open my mouth slightly in shock. "No Ravvin that's not it!" I wave my hands trying to calm him down but he seems a bit frightened. "Then what Masamune?! Please merely say it I can not let you leave yet! Please not before She..." Well that made him shut up right quick didn't it. I think the fog is lifting from this little problem a bit. "Well Ravvin." I say standing up and guiding him to sit down in a chair. "You don't need to worry, this isn't that sort of problem. I can swear upon my holy forest that I will finish your Grove." I say that solemnly placing my hand over my heart as a soft green aura leaks from me. This is the traditional method for a druid to make an unbreakable promise. Now it should be noted that this promise IS breakable, but if it was broken all parties would know the very second it was. Ravvin visibly relaxes and looks at me.
I chuckle softly, "Ravvin who do you have following me?" I ask simply and he looks as if I stabbed him in the heart. His face goes pale and the sweat even comes back. "Why whatever do you m." I cut him off by simply raising my hand. "Please Ravvin, I want us to be friends. So please, do not lie to me." My sentence started powerfully, but as I kept talking I kept lowering the volume of my voice until it was little more than a whisper. This was a trick I learned when I was working on my original world. Ravvin was now leaning close to me listening very carefully to every word I said. "Simply tell me who you sent to follow me. I understand why you would do that, I only need a name." Ravvin closes his hands into tight fists as he struggles with talking to me. He looks torn between telling me and not so I decide to sweeten things a bit. "I will never harm you or your family Ravvin, you should have heard a lot about me from Reginald after all. You should know the measure of my character, so just tell me and we can work through this." If I'm honest all those t.v. specials about how cops interrogate people is actually paying off. Creating a connection and closeness is always the first thing they try. Ravvin nods to himself and opens his mouth, "well...Masamune...Since it's you...." his eyes are darting everywhere as he looks for a way out, but I have him pretty well pinned with body language. The chair I had him sit in was directly in front of my own and farther away from the closed door. For all intents and purposes he was completely trapped.
"It was my D." Three loud knocks resound on the door. Lord Ravvin seems to come back to himself and he rushes to answer the door. Fuming I look and I can see the super busty elf from the gardens. Hm...That was a little too coincidental. I decide to start looking through my watchers momentarily. My shadow is no where in their sight, fuck. The busty elf looks at me, and I can see her face blush as she makes eye contact. Honestly, she is incredibly attractive. Not to mention her very generous bust, she had pretty waist length golden hair that seemed to shimmer with a light of its own, crystal clear blue eyes, and some of the softest looking lips I had ever seen. I could feel my heart rate increase a bit just from looking at her.
She can clearly tell that I'm looking at her, and despite the fierce blush on her cheeks she even adjusts her stance so her assets are more prominently on display. God I love a woman who is more than generous in showing off! I compliment in my mind as I feast on her curves. While I would certainly never cheat on Maya this world was already very different. Hell it would be considered strange if I only had one wife. I try to not listen to Ravvins conversation as it was not very interesting, but I did get one very interesting tidbit, "Of course, now go daughter. Can't you see that I'm speaking with Masamune, right now?" He chuckles slightly and starts to close the door, but I stop them. "I'm sorry, but didn't you say that your daughter wants to learn some magic?" I ask with a kind smile.
Her face blooms widely with a smile and she nods eagerly. Walking closer to her I'm able to get a faint waft of honey coming from her, the smell was very pleasant. I slowly reach down and lift her hand to my lips, kissing it softly. "Would you still like to learn?" I ask coyly and all she does is blush harder and nod her head once. "What do you think Ravvin?" I ask. Lord Ravvin seems to be nearly vibrating! "YES! Please my Masamune! You have no idea what that would mean to us!" A small tear threatens to fall from his eyes. Is a druid really something so great here? I ask myself. It's hard to believe that a class that most people thing would be middling at best is so sought after here!
"Ravvin we can discuss payments later, for now." I look around the room and spot a flower vase. I quickly walk over taking a beautiful white orchid. Handing it to the young lady I smile. "What's your name?" I ask staring into her beautiful blue eyes. She lowers her eyes and says bashfully, "I am Arith" She giggles a bit and fidgets with the flower in her hands. "Go wait for me in the gardens okay Arith? I will be there soon." I say with a smile as she runs to obey. I focus my eyes and suddenly I can see through the Orchid. I obviously wouldn't just let her go like that! That would make me some sort of an idiot!
