18 Chapter 18: Grove Star

"Hm..." I was mulling over my new quest as I made my way down the dimly lit halls of the Ravvin manor. The fact that I was being watched wasn't overly surprising, after all I am an unknown entity in this place. It would be much stranger for me not to be watched, and if I'm honest the fact that I was wandering throughout the halls for quite a while earlier couldn't be helping matters.

I began stroking my chin with my fingers softly, it was a hold over from when I was alive, and began to think about who might be the ones watching me. Firstly there would be Lazy and Dumb-ass from the front gates, but I doubt they would have the stealth to be able to watch me without my notice.

I grab the door knob in front of me and head outside passing a blushing maid who appeared to be leaving someones room in quite a hurry. Closing the door softly behind me I quietly wait for a few minutes to see if my pursuer would attempt to attack, or converse but I am met with only the calm darkness of the night. The moons beautiful light cast the gardens into a very different light. The latent mana was now completely clear to me eyes and I can feel my heart pounding at its complex beauty. My jaw nearly drops looking throughout the garden the entire place is designed to be source for magic! I can scarcely believe that in this world, where magic had allegedly completely left, that this simple garden would be so perfectly designed to gather and focus mana. Even the trees were anchored in specific spots to allow for the mana to circulate.

Examining further I find that the plants in the garden are mostly normal with one small exception. There is an odd collection of Vermilion Fire Grass planted just off the center of the garden that appears to be able to store mana! My god if I make this place into a grove and trained here....NO! Stop it! Bad Masamune! How could you think of trying to take these peoples things. I shake my head in disgust at myself. Perhaps growing strong was beginning to change my sensibilities a bit?

I bent down and began to setup a simple circle of twigs near the Vermilion Fire Grass, adjusting them ever so slightly. With the aid of the moon I can see how my circle is able to open a small gate into the already surging mana stream below. Forcing my energy into the circle I will for it to act as a door and then in a rush the mana hits me. I'm nearly blown away! The pure physical force of the mana pushes me back slightly but I hold on and begin trying to force my internal mana onto my hands.

Coated in a slight greenish glow I reach into my circle and begin drawing some basic runes. Thankfully all the druidic knowledge I would need appeared in my head as I advanced in level otherwise I would be well over my head! The first rune that looks like an isosceles triangle slowly comes into being, and as I finish the last corner a shining green silhouette of what I drew appears in the air above me. I sigh softly as I move onto the second rune, a tightly coiled knot of three different interconnecting circles all joined in the middle. This particular rune was far more complex than it appeared at first glance. Within each curve of this knot one had to be completely perfect or else the rune would simply fail. I can feel sweat dripping down my face steadily as I attempt to join all three circles at once.

*BANG* A small explosion occurs in the middle of the formation and I can feel my arms pulsing in pain as the feedback from my failed spell runs back into my body. It's like a thousands of ants found themselves into my veins and were attempting to devour me from inside! "Fuck!" I yell out loudly rubbing my arms roughly. After a few seconds my breathing calms down and I lean over my circle to begin the entire god damn process...again. "I wish I could just go through my awakening again! That made a grove so much more simply." I grumble to myself. Since the garden back at home had quickly become my private space I had become a lot more used to talking out loud the plants. And, while I know it's stupid, every once in a while I'm SURE they could hear me!

Much like those trees I'm sure these flowers hear everything that is spoken, I just need to find out how to listen to them! I crack a small grin. "I don't remember even liking plants that much in my last life." I shake my head and complete the first rune. The second rune goes well on my second attempt and then I just need to write my name as the invoker of the ritual to complete. I would normally do this immediately, but there was one teeny, tiny problem. I needed a full moon. Casting my eye to the sky, and I am met with a wash of disappointment waning gibbous. "Well I hope the elves don't mind me hanging out for a few months." This sucks!

I dust off my hands and slowly start making my way towards the door. Since this place was already primed for a grove, they barely even needed me here. If I had only known! "You know, if you had just told me I would have spent another three weeks with Maya!" I say to no one as I walk into the manor.

I'm already fairly tired from the mana expenditure, but now I suppose I can work on my other project of the evening. I need to find whoever is watching me! Now, how in the hell can I actually do that.... Walking down the hallway there doesn't seem to be anyone stirring or walking around save for a few maids and butlers, but I HIGHLY doubt that this weird system in my head would add a quest for just anyone. It would have to be someone either important, or that wanted to hurt me. Well trying to hurt me seems...unlikely... I grimace slightly thinking about how venerated druids, and really all magic, is here. "Most people would never even think of hurting a druid, and those that would? Well I haven't pissed off anyone important enough for an assassin to be hired... So most likely an important person then..."I cast my eyes around me a few times to try and see someone, but sadly I catch neither sight nor sound. "I wonder if it was that little one from earlier today....No that doesn't seem right." Frustrated I stop in the middle of the hallway as I continue to think and reason with myself. This is a very bad habit of mine, I just tend to get lost when I'm thinking about something deeply. "So if it wasn't the little one could it have been...THE ELF WITH THE GIANT TITS!" It hits me like a bolt of lightning in the dark. I bet that's the young Missy who has a crush on me! My ears perk up, shortly after the word Tits was said into the dark. "Eep!" I stop my train of thought and look everywhere. The was definitely a voice, but I just can't find the source.

A small smile begins to works its way onto my lips as a dark thought comes to light in my mind. What's the best way to catch a rat? Cheese obviously! So to catch a girl who might be a little too interested in me.... "Oh, if only I had been able to meet that beautiful elf I saw today! I would love to take her as an apprentice."

Silence.

I wait patiently, but nothing comes to me. Hm...She either ran or is a bit too crafty... Well I have another couple months here anyway,

Whistling softly I make my way back to my room. I may not know exactly who, but I am sure that whoever is following me will be well hidden. My observation skills are severely limited due to my low status, even most rookie assassins would be invisible to me at this point! However, none of that matters. I'm in a safe location, and I have time. What could ever possible hide from me when I have those advantages!

After closing my door I setup my vine traps around my bed and the windows. I avoid the front door, as the chance of some poor innocent maid coming to wake me up and getting hurt would weigh for too heavily on my heart.

"Squeak squeak little mouse."

I call into the darkness, as a different type of darkness embraces me and I slip into my own druidic forest. I chatted happily with Esme for a bit. It seems that everything is going fine at home, and I avoided the unpleasant topic of the rude elves.

What I did bring up was my stalker, and Esme SHOCKINGLY had a few really good ideas on how to find them. Two heads are so much better than one!
