17 Chapter 17: A Home Visi
The first thing I thought when I got sight of Ravvin Manor was the incredibly airy feel it had to it. From the pale blue shutters adjoining the white washed front, or even the yellow lattice work that decorated the sides, it all came together to make the giant manor look warm and inviting. The manor stood at three stories tall, quite a bit taller than most buildings in the area, and there were even stationed guards at the front gate! It seemed that perhaps lord Ravvin was a bit more affluent than Mayas own father!
From what I had heard it seems that Lord Ravvin was an incredibly prosperous merchant. He had found a way to get the most sought after item in every area, and traded them around the world. Fine spices from the southern lands, and pearls from the north. Everything that could be sold for a high profit somewhere else, he had his hands on.
I had been stopped at the gates now, for about an hour as the guards attempted to get in contact with lord Ravvin. The once gentle warming sun was slowly turning cold and distant, the local fauna was even starting to die off, this new world had very similar seasons to earth, and it appeared that the 'cold months' were on their way.
"Ahem". I cleared my throat slightly to stir the guards again. "Look guys, it's been like an hour now...Do you want me leave a message for lord Ravvin?" The guards barely register anything I've said, they simply keep staring towards the house waiting for their friend to return. Okay, now I"m starting to get a little pissed!
Right as I'm about to leave I can see their hapless friend returning.
"Oh, good! It looks like the king of idiots has returned!" I stop stunned slightly, I hadn't really meant to say that out loud. The guards look at me a bit sheepishly. "S..s..sorry lord Druid, but we really had to wait to make sure the lady was....secured before you came in. It should be safe now."
What the hell do you mean by safe?! "Oh, I see that makes sense. Sorry for the rude outburst gentlemen, it has been a long morning." I cough a little to ease my embarrassment. I already feel bad for calling them out for no reason, I shouldn't make their lives harder over some words they accidentally said.
Guard #1 graciously offers to walk me to the manor, and to even lead me to the area that lord Ravvin wants to use as a grove. Walking together gives me a great chance to learn more about this mysterious young lady who I have so captured. "So about the lady who had to be secured..." I trail off as I notice the once jovial smile on Guard #1 has suddenly disappeared. His face is stoic, and maybe a tad nervous. "Well...She's Lord Ravvins youngest daughter, but she's a very nice girl I promise! She always makes sure that the guards have an easy duty when they watch her. Very quiet girl, mainly just spends her time in her room....or the gardens...
Uh huh...Why exactly is this little girl able to have all of these grown men terrified of her! Her own dad even! She must be some sort of monstrous little girl. Clearly this would be the only reason for all the cloak and dagger around me setting up a simple grove! I sigh softly "Well, that's good then I suppose." As we go around the side of the home I'm able to finally see the location that they want their grove to be and I'm floored. I can already feel the ambient earth mana pulsing gently along with my own heartbeat, I feel almost completely entranced by the place! "Why would they even need a grove here?!" The phrase is barely out of my lips when I hear a small 'yipping' sound as I watch a lithe figure sprint from the gardens, to the patio, and finally as the door slams behind them as they rush inside.
I wasn't able to get a good view, but from what I saw it had to of been a grown adult female. At least i'm pretty sure a man wouldn't have tits that huge! I mean just....wow! I shake my head softly to reorient myself, "Okay, so here right?" I ask Guard #1 only to find that he has completely disappeared from here. "So that lazy fucker couldn't even wait from me to start before he bails, good job you dicks." I mutter that line to myself, at this point I don't give a fuck if the other guards hear it and get pissed off! Fuck em! Those dick heads made him wait for a damn hour to come in here for an appointment that was ALREADY set to happen! There has to be a limit to the incompetence of these pieces of... Sigh, "Okay, I guess I can get to work. They are paying me after all." I mutter unhappily as I begin looking around the garden more. Since there is already and abundance of mana in the area the most important thing for me to do would be to find the 'crux' of the mana. The crux would refer to the point where the mana fully gathers in one organic spot that it can be pulled out from. Putting a grove on the point would allow for the already high mana volume to flow and pulse and a much higher frequency, this in turn would allow for all the local wildlife to thrive much more powerfully.
After a few circuits of the garden I decide I need to go inside, without the benefit of the moon, the mana veins are just to unclear for my eyes to see. Perhaps if I was a few levels higher in my druidic profession I could pop a grove out instantly, but without it?
I pause at the back door, hesitating slightly at my incredibly cold welcome I knock firmly once...twice...and three times. Sigh, all this damn waiting is going to give me an ulcer I just know it! Slowly, oh so slowly, I can hear footsteps inside heading toward me, a head of brilliant gold hair is the first thing I can make out. The tiny figure looks up at me curiously, it has the widest little doe eyes I have ever seen! I try forcing down my irritation, it wouldn't be fair to take it out on this little kid. "Hi there little one! Could you help me find Lord Ravvin?" I ask making sure to look at it in the eyes. Most kids like to be talked to directly after all. This one however, doesn't seem to be very bright...just my luck. It just seems to be lost staring at me. "Are you okay there little one?" I ask softly trying to comfort it, I reach my hand out and pat its head softly. "Okay then since you're not sure, how about we just go look together then?" I ask holding out my hand for it to grab. The little creature nods twice very excitedly and grabs my hand with both of its tiny hands and follows along silent as a shadow.
After more than 20 minutes searching through the house I'm just about ready to give up. I need some damn food! I rub my eyes tiredly, suddenly a tiny hand is rubbing my head and I nearly jump form surprise! I completely forgot about this little one! "We need to get you a bell or something." I mutter halfheartedly as I make the an effort to stand again. "How about the kitchen? Can you help me find that?" I ask it and for once it nods! Hallelujah! "Okay then young one I'm following you." I say as it tugs me down the hallway at a near frantic pace. Just a few short turns later and there it is, a massive dining hall! Wait! Is that Lord Ravvin?! "WHAT THE FUCK?!" I bellow out into the dining hall! All eyes instantly turn to me, being led by the arm by a tiny child, and very clearly in a less than happy mood. Lord Ravvin aside, the rest of the Ravvin family all appear to be incredibly beautiful! Blonde hair lines the seats, with a graceful form, and wide clear eyes through all of them. I can also spot in the back corner, a somewhat familiar figure, the strange girl that fled the gardens the moment I saw her. I notice one other key thing, their ears are all very long joining into long points at the tips. HOLY SHIT ELVES! No Masamune, this isn't the time for that shit! This dick head has been giving you the run around all damn day!
Lord Ravvin is sweating heavily as I stalk my way to where he is sitting. "What, seems to be the matter Lord Druid?" He asks simply as sweat rolls down his face. "Well, how about we start at the top of the list why don't we." His eyes go wide at my sentence, perhaps the people I met were outliers, but who gives a shit at this point! "Firstly your brain dead guards leave me by your front gate for over an hour, then when those mongoloids eventually clear me to go in, some weird girl dashes through the garden in attempt to get away from me! Then to top it all of this right here," I lift up the small child who seems quite bewildered at all the harsh and complex words I'm using. "This little one, has been the only fucking person I have seen for the last hour and a goddman half!" I say setting the little child down as I stare daggers at the paling face of Lord Ravvin, even his concealment is going out as his form slowly gains the blonde hair and pointed ears that are native to his people. "Is this really the hospitality a druid should expect from an Elven lord?!" I demand and that seems to set the place rocking. While before the other diners were concerned, they are now livid! How could their door guards and service be so shabby, to such an esteemed guest?! At least that's what I hope their thinking, because seriously?! This was not okay!
Lord Ravvin gulps twice and stands up. Walking slowly around the table he looks me dead in the eyes, before descending and kneeling in front of me. Ugh, this shit again. "We are so deeply sorry my lord druid!" He shouts out at the top of his lungs, before, for some reason, ramming his own head into hard wooden floor below. A sickening thunk can be heard and I have to quickly stop him from doing so again. "Stop it now!" I command imperiously as he quickly stands I can see he is at a complete loss, and most of the wind goes out of my sails. Sadly this was probably just a series of simple mistakes with no actual targeted malice. So now I just gotta suck it up...great.. "It's fine..It's fine." I say patting lord Ravvin a few times. "Just get me a room, and something to eat. I won't be able to start work until night anyway." I say heading toward an empty chair before lord Ravvin stops me. "No, lord Druid please take this seat next to me! My family would love to be able to speak with you! We never thought you would be...Oh um," He clears his throat uncomfortably, before reaching down to detach the young child that was still firmly holding onto me. "This is.." Hugh "This little boy is our youngest son Faviam. He says smiling down at his boy. I sit down and nod my head. "Thank you very much for your help young master Faviam." I say kindly staring into the child's eyes as I do. I want him to know that I do truly appreciate his meager assistance. He giggles bashfully and hides a bit. "He's very precious." I comment with a soft smile on my face. Lord Ravvin turns to me a content smile on his face. "Yes, our children are truly the greatest things we could have ever given to the world." Sitting next to me we all begin eating as I'm assaulted by question, after question, after question. My mind is slowly going numb, thankfully the meal ends quickly enough and I'm even shown properly to my room. Oddly the room the gave me appears to be on the top floor of the residence, I had told them I am going to work at night didn't I? I hope I don't wake anyone heading down to their gardens....
I decided to meditate in silence for a few hours, descending into my forest I can feel it thrum with life and power. The expansion still hasn't slowed, so each meditation I can feel my power swelling to greater heights, perhaps the difference would be negligible in a real spell, but the feeling of my power growing was intoxicating. My thorned pine trees towering and swaying ever so slightly always bring peace to my heart. Though, I have been wondering, what should my next beast be? It seems that the obvious choice would be best, a moon for my sun, or perhaps even just darkness itself....There can be no light without shadow after all.... Hm...
I shake my head and decide to head out to the garden, that is a different problem for a different day.
