6 Chapter 06: The Competition

In all things with the right amount of knowledge there are no mysteries. Shortly after meeting the other, I'll be generous, men that are potential suitors to the beautiful Maya I'm able to see just why she would want to escape. Staring from left to right, from every angle I can see nothing but a pitiful display of people.

They all appear to be quite a bit older than I would have expected. The first to greet me is a tall orcish man with no hair and green skin. The most captivating feature of his would be a tie between his intimidating teeth poking out from his lips, and the horrendous stench that wafted from the same orifice. "What you do here?"

Ugh even his voice sounds stupid. "I'm here to win the affections of Lady Maya, much like you I assume." I say casually trying to keep tensions light. He smirks and pounds my back with his meaty palm. "Ha ha, you speak funny."

Well I suppose him being stupid wasn't me just being mean. Oh well, he seems at least semi-friendly. Next to join our little circle of friendship was a whale! Er, maybe not a whale, but even with the modern convenience of earth I didn't think that a creature could attach that much fat to a human skeleton! I try to stem the flow of bile backing up in my throat. His body odor could even give my new friend a run for his money. "Greetings good sir." I say plainly hoping for him to waddle off a bit more quickly.

Sadly my hopes are quickly dashed. Maybe I should start being more mean, it didn't seem like Cedric had this kind of a problem. "I'm Masamune, my I trouble you two gentleman for your names?" They both seem pleased with my courtesy. The fat man even opens his squinted eyes to get a better look at me.

"The Lord has returned!"

There is an epic shout from a familiar dwarven voice, as a giant of man opens the door and steps forward. He is easily over 7 feet tall, and he looks to be a wall of solid muscle. Unlike his daughter he has fiery red hair, and what appears to be perfectly normal eyes. He is dressed much like how Jeremy was, but with an upgrade in quality. His shirt appears to be similar to silk, and the golden buttons on his black jacket make his entire outfit give off an air of old aristocracy

"Greetings Lords, are you prepared?" He asks quite simply but the pressure that is emitted from him is staggering. I have a hard time even looking at him with this pressure. I try slowing down my heart and decide to try my luck at speaking.

"Please my Lord, could you inform me of what is going on here?"

He seems quite surprised at the sudden interruption. Turning his dominating gaze towards me makes my sweat pour down my spine, but I hold my position. Backing down here doesn't seem like a viable option any longer. Even my former allies made sure to get some distance as soon as my mouth opened.

"Hm... yes you must be the one that my daughter chose." He smiles cruelly in my direction before snapping his fingers simply. "For now why don't the original candidates follow me, they will be doing their tests first." Now I am totally lost. Why would there be a test for a marriage?

I shrug it off as the other suitors leave the room following the intimidating lord further into the home. Now that I finally have some time to myself! I need to think about what I can do to improve my chances.

I don't think that Maya will end up with me, to get to stand here I have to assume that those men are all very well off. Oh yeah the Gacha! I can't believe it took me this long to think of something so simple. Even if they kick me out it's not like I don't have any options. I take a peak out of the window, and I can still see plentiful sunlight, sorry druid powers you'll have to be patient.

"Open Gacha" I call out and I can see a brightly lit golden slot machine in front of me. It's almost identical to those prop machines in front of a Casino. Grinning from ear to ear I pull down on the lever in front of me.

My heart races as I watch the slots whiz by. Slowly the first spot stops and, it is a frowning face. Huh, that's kinda strange. The other two slots stop at the same symbol and I can hear a notification in my mind.

"Congratulations Masamune! You have acquired POCKET LINT.

Pocket Lint:

It has no uses, it's just lint.

Well that isn't a great start. I grimace deciding to try again. I've never really been one blessed with great luck. The second pull stops on a new symbol. It's a small picture of a tree across all three.

"Congratulations Masamune! You have acquired KNOWLEDGE: NATURE"

Now that is something I can use! I can't believe my luck this time. I try absorbing the information, and much like the first time all I can feel is pain, however it is far less intense. A few seconds and it is gone, and I can remember every name of every plant that I have come across in this place.

I even got an answer to one of my burning questions. Those tree voices were Ents! I'm very dumb. I sigh internally at my ignorance before steeling myself to do one final pull. I don't want to burn all of my tickets when I don't know what I may need.

I reach up mentally and the slots begin to spin again. My heart pounding I hope for something great! the symbol this time is odd. The first two symbols match as usual, and its a simple flower, however the last symbol is a shining golden number 7.

"Congratulations Masamune! You have acquired Lilac (Perfect)"

Huh, now that is an odd one. Is it just a really nice flower? Oh, well if nothing else it should make a fairly decent gift for Maya.

Smiling happily to myself I look up out the window to see the harsh rays of slanted evening sun filling the room. I shouldn't need to wait much longer.

The footsteps approaching the door make me even more sure. A quick knock is heard before Cedric opens the door. He seems to be a bit amused now, this dwarf just can't decide how he wants to feel huh?

"Hey you, it's your turn." He says curtly before leaving. Shrugging my shoulders I follow him into the hall. "How did they do?" I ask simply shortening my own steps to keep in time with Cedric. "HA! Now that's rich. Those pampered old fucks don't give a rats fart about the little lady. They just want a tie to the Lord. Most just offered her the position of head Concubine! Can you believe that? Not even an actual wife, but a concubine! The nerve of some people."

Huh, well I guess this makes my job easy then. "Well let's go Cedric, I think my offer may be a bit better."
