15 Dining in the Tavern- II
After a while, later our order arrived along with captain's booze.
I was the only one that had ordered in bulk but managed to eat every morsel. Whereas my comrades were having second thoughts about eating the sandwich but in the end, they still ate it.
Our captain was pretty drunk and wasted as she fell asleep on her face on top of the table. She was murmuring and whining about the incident happened before. Although, I can't make a sense what she was talking about.
Well if she's passed out, this would be the perfect opportunity to discuss.
"William, what were you thinking about using your enchanted gauntlet on a civilian? He would have been dead if I hadn't intervened.", I said with a vexing tone.
I still can't believe I managed to stop enchanted gauntlet just with a mere horse saddle. I am crazy myself for pulling such a stunt.
William looked up,
"Did such a thing happened?", then after a couple of seconds of thinking, he remembered,
"Oh right, that! It's no big deal.", he answered nonchalantly.
It's a big deal alright! Not anyone could possess enchanted equipment's. Only the warrior class or above get to use those and it's pretty hard to get hands on one of those.
All of a sudden, Thalia put her arm on the desk and pulled her face closer to mine.
"For some reason, you were able to hold off the attack. I am pretty impressed.", she said as she re-examined my physique closely.
For some reasons, she smelt nice, unlike the fragrance in the tavern or any other smell.
I guess it's her female pheromones that acting up and tingling my nose. As expected females, they are indeed a scary opponent.
"Could you get off my face? And that was thanks to that horse saddle, otherwise, I would be seriously injured. I am nothing special.", I responded with my poker face as I glared her back in the eye.
I did some muscle training alone, but nothing to brag about it.
She was too close, that I could even feel her breath touching my face.
"I see", she sat back in her seat with a smile on her face.
It was surely creeping me out tho.
"Both of you have the enchanted gears I assume?", I asked.
William replied as he fixed his glasses,
"Indeed! We are from the noble house of Marshfield, who are the closest advisors to the King. We have dozens of enchanted equipment bestowed to the trustworthy guards of the Marshfield family. This gauntlet, I used belongs to the bronze class, handed down by the master itself. I am very thankful for that.", then he bowed towards Bruno as thank you.
Bruno smiled and scratched his head,
"This is nothing! I will soon procure some silver class ones and equip you guys with the whole set. Just you guys wait a bit longer.", said Bruno as he puffed his chest in pride.
Even having bronze equipment itself was a big thing, let alone a full set of silver class.
In this world, there are magically enchanted equipment's that possess great power depending on the equipment and its class.
They are classed as Copper, Bronze, Iron, Silver, and Gold class.
These types of equipment utilize the spiritual energy in one's body and fourfold its output than normal. People who can use magic are very scarce and most of the magic practitioner having been taken under the royal army to make enchanted types of equipment. But to produce enchanted silver and gold class equipment's, they need a very high skilled magician well versed in the art of magic and blacksmith along with a pinch of good luck.
So not anyone can afford magically enchanted types of equipment.
The lowest class, copper class equipment are not that much use in battle but still, it's too costly.
"So what's our plan? Is there any leads for the cul-", before I could finish Thalia covered my mouth.
"We will talk about it tomorrow! For all, we know the walls could have ears.", she said while glaring at me.
Does she like covering everyone's mouth or what?
Well, it would be a bad idea to talk about the cult in such a public area. If the word got out to the cult, that someone was looking for them. We would be in danger, as well as they might clean their traces and the mission will get more difficult and complex.
I shrugged her grasp,
"Alright, we shall talk about it next time then.", I said.
"So anyway, what are we going to do about her?", William asked as he pointed at our squad captain.
Our captain had passed out on the table as she slept peacefully. She was drooling on the table and she reeked of booze. Pathetic!
A real senior should put a good image in front of their junior, but she didn't have any aspects that I could admire her. I highly doubt she had anything to teach us.
"Thalia", said Bruno, "Please carry back Captain to her dormitory. It is our duty as her fellow comrade to lend her a hand in time of need."
I let out a huge sigh,
"Some captain she is. She didn't even inform us about our next task as a rookie Guardsman.", I frowned.
It's our first day and we had yet to receive our uniforms. All we did today was waste our time.
Bruno got up from his seat,
"Don't worry about the uniform, it will be delivered at your home by tonight. She was the one to give us our uniforms but now it doesn't seem possible. Meet us tomorrow morning at 8 am by the gate. We will have our first assignment as a guardsman."
He seemed well informed, his information network was a wide one. I shall do as he says for now.
It had already been past 5 pm.
As we were leaving the tavern, Thalia thanked the owner. The owner surely was getting all gentleman and clingy towards Thalia. He also asked her to hang out with him like a date. Thalia blushingly said she will think about it. I feel pity for the tavern owner.
Thalia and we separated our ways as she took our captain to her dormitory.
Bruno and William tagged along with me on my way home. We were going in the same direction, anyway. They walked behind me, as I walked in the front.
Both were discussing some petty talks about what to have to dinner and other frivolous small talks. I did not give them a lot of attention. It was just a waste of time. They were being a nuisance but it's not that they will stop following if I tell them so.
We will separate in the street ahead of us anyway so…
I suddenly stopped in my feet.
Bruno who was walking while deeply engaged in talks collided with me.
"Oi! What's your problem! Why did you stop in front of me suddenly!", he exclaimed at me.
Problem? Yeah, it was standing in front of me.
"Hey! You there!" A girl pointing at me stood there, "Let's have a chat alone shall we?", she asked me in a dainty and cheerful tone.
She was really a beautiful girl as she smiled innocently while her other arm on her hip.
I would have been flattered for such a girl calling me out, only if she wasn't surrounded by intimidating 4 other boys standing behind her who were totally glaring at me.
The atmosphere was very heavy and even Bruno and William knew something was off.
William got closer and whispered as he cracked his knuckles,
"Oi, should I lend you a hand?", he asked.
I was surprised.
I never thought to hear such kind words from William. Although he detested me, he was a good soul.
Despite her cute approach, he could see the enmity they were giving off. As expected of a veteran soldier.
"It's alright! You guys go ahead. I shall lend them an ear.", I replied back.
It seemed the bitch girl from the elite squad along with her boyband had a bone to pick with me.
"As you say so.", William responded quickly and backed down.
"Are they your friends?", Bruno asked me.
Friends?
They look like they gonna eat me for dinner.
I responded after a small sigh,
"Yeah, something like that."
"Let's go, he said he got this!", pressured William as they both made an exit.
If they had stuck along, there was a chance they might blow their own cover as well. Which would be a big pain in the ass!
After Bruno and William left,
"So what's up!", I asked them in a friendly manner.
"Follow me!", she responded with a smile.
This might get a bit ugly.
