Chapter 10: The Prisoner

Author's POV

Damien said nothing to Lotus instead turned to Curtis, one of his warriors, “Take the rogues to the dungeon, and inform Jimmy and James to patrol a little further from the border to check if anyone else is hiding.” He sensed a little turmoil in Curtis. Curtis is one of his warriors who will follow Damien without doubt, even if he is asked to be stabbed himself by silver. Then what is bothering him this time?

“Am I clear?” Damien asked him one more time.

“Alpha, Lu… I mean, Lotus already asked us to check further areas from the border to check for the rogues, and they are already working on that.” He said in a low voice.

‘Our mate is indeed a Luna. She not only handled the rogues but also kept our pack safe’, Damien’s wolf shouted with joy in his head. Damien did not reply. He was still furious. How dare she? What if something terrible happens? He was not there to protect her. He was not there to watch her back.

“Burn the other bodies near the borders. I will be in the dungeon for an encounter,” Damien commanded. He turned towards Alex. “You are coming with me. And Ben, make sure everyone is unharmed and all the wounded are getting proper treatments. Then come to the dungeon.”

Seven hundred rogues! Damien still couldn’t believe that his pack had survived this big attack without his or Alex’s help. The presence of alpha is significant for a pack when they are in danger. It strengthens the pack and gives moral support to all the pack members, especially the warriors. An alpha of a pack is like the father of the family. A father’s presence always gives mental support to his children. The absence of alpha in a chaotic situation may cause the fall of the pack. That is another reason that the rogues try to target the packs when their alpha is not there in the territory. The presence of their Luna makes a pack even stronger. Mates are another half of a werewolf. Hence a Luna is the other half of her alpha who makes the pack complete. Being the other half, they are always the targets of the enemies. If a mate dies, it becomes tough for that werewolf to survive. He still cannot believe Lotus was unharmed after that attack. Even she fought for his pack.

What on earth was she thinking? Luna’s safety is always the foremost priority of the pack, and she was running around on the battlefield? Of course, she does not know that she is Luna. Damien sighed.

They have reached the dungeon. A metallic smell of blood hit him. Then he smelt rotten eggs. He walked straight towards the end of the cells. There are very few people imprisoned here, as they kill their enemies once they get all the information they need. Curtis was there, along with two more guards. The rogues were in terrible shape. They were bleeding. Anyone can tell they have been stabbed with silver.

Damien asked the guards to leave the cell. He walked into the cell. Now only three of them were here. Ben is going to join them pretty soon.

“Well, well… what do we have here today?” Damien said in a sarcastic tone. Those rogues looked pathetic. They are hardly left with any energy within them. They were chained in silver. Damien slapped one of them hard, and he fell to the ground on his knees.

“So, are you ready to talk?” Damien said in a bitter voice. “Why are you here? Who was behind it?” Damien asked him, gripping his hair. By that time, Ben was also there in the cell. That rogue let out a painful moan. “I know nothing.” He said in a shattered way.

Damien slapped him again. His nose bled this time. It was broken for sure.

“I will ask you one more time. Why did you attack us?” Damien asked again. He is getting impatient. That rogue was still silent. Damien held him in his throat and pinned him against the wall. After a few seconds of struggle, he was dead. 

Damien turned towards the second rogue. He was terrified of what happened to his partner. Damien chuckled at him. “So, are you going to talk? Or you also want to join him?” He walked towards him.

He kept silent. Damien went past him to the third rogue and killed him at an instance and then turned back to the second one again. He gave him a devil-like smile. “If you are of no use, there is the point in keeping you alive. It will occupy only a precious cell of mine”. Damien started to walk towards him.

“I will tell you everything. Will you let me go after that?” That rogue said in a shaky tone.

“Oh, I will free you from all your pains. I promise.” Damien smiled again.

“It was for her. It was for the girl you married!” the rogue said. He was panting.

His words stunned Damien. How did they know about his marriage? It was only Damien, Alex, and pack members of those ancient moon packs.

“How did you know about her?” Damien asked in surprise. His eyebrows were creased.

“I don’t know how the master finds out. But that girl is from an ancient moon pack. The first master misunderstood that girl with her elder sister. But her elder sister was useless. It was her who was blessed with abilities.” The rogue said again.

“Who is your master? What ability are you talking about?” Damien asked again.

‘It's the ability of speed, Alpha. Lotus told me all her siblings are blessed with abilities. Evalyn is a master planner, Jakob has strength, and she has enormous speed.’ Ben's mind-linked to Damien.

“I don’t exactly know her abilities.” The rogue said. “Master got informed that you will not be in the territory, and hence we attacked to take that girl with us.”

“Why do you need her? Don’t tell me it’s because of her abilities. Why should she be using her abilities for your profit willingly?” Damien gave him a crooked smile.

“You don’t understand, do you? I don’t know what kind of alpha you are. Your wife is the descendant of the moon goddess. Master needs her for breeding.” The rogue laughed cruelly.

The cell was silent. None of them could imagine that answer. She was only a minor. Ben and Curtis were beyond shock. Their alpha was married to her. Even so, he denied her as their Luna. Damien was furious. He pinned that rogue on the wall, holding his throat. “How dare you offend her?” Damien yelled in his face. “Whom are you working for?”

“It’s… the… rogues… king….” He shuttered

“You… promised… you… will… free… me…” he said again. He was choking.

Damien smiled at him. “Indeed. I will free you from all the pains you have. After all, none feels anything after death.” Damien killed that man in a blink.

Damien turned towards Curtis and Ben. They are looking at him with so many questions. They want to know if their alpha was married to that girl. How can it be? She is just a minor. Damien can sense all the thoughts coming from them. He knows it is not safe to talk about that here. He thought for a moment, then said,” Ben! Curtis! Into my office. Alex” he called his name.

Damien went towards the packhouse. Alex, Ben, and Curtis followed him into his office.

Damien walked straight towards his enormous chair and sat on it. He didn’t utter a word. Alex was scared of his silence. He knew it was the moment before the storm. He saw how much Damien loved Lotus, and he knew to what extent he could go to protect her. And that stupid girl went to fight the rogues who came here to kidnap her.

Alex used to train Lotus in the morning every day. It has been almost one month now. She was a fast learner, and she moved pretty quickly. Alex knew she could defend herself well, but he could not imagine her fighting against a bunch of Rogues. And why on earth Ben let her do that? Was he out of his mind?

On the other hand, Ben was terrified. He saw that girl fighting. She did not need any protection. She could roast Ben anytime. Alpha was also so concerned about her. That time when alpha thought she ran away, Ben almost got killed. She could calm their alpha by just touching him. He could sense now that she was their Luna. Then again, Alpha declared in front of everyone that she was not. How can it be? Is he furious that she led his army? Is Alpha married to her?

“I asked you to keep her safe. In which language does that mean to drag her into a fight with seven hundred rogues?” Damien yelled at Ben. “What were you thinking in your pea head?”

Ben could answer nothing. Is their alpha furious because she was in a fight? Does he care that much for Lotus? Ben thought silently.

“Answer me, you f*****g idiot. Do you have any idea how dangerous it can be for her?” Damien was losing control again. Ben knows that his silence will oil the fire.

He spoke in a low voice. “I asked her to stay inside, but she didn’t. Instead, she commanded me using a different tone which I couldn’t refuse.” His voice sounds more like a whisper.

‘She was using her Luna tone. That’s why they were forced to listen. That’s why they sensed their Luna.’ Damien’s wolf shouted in his head.

‘But how? I don’t understand. I haven’t even marked her yet.’ Damien was confused.

‘Mate bond depends not only on the mark and mating process but also on the bond between two wolves. She does not know that we are her mate, but she is still bonded with us.’ Damien’s wolf explained.

‘What kind of bond is it?’ Damien asked again. He was still confused.

‘Bond of love,’ his wolf said. ‘our mate has fallen for us.’ He sounded happy.

‘She loves me?’ Damien was beyond confused. He always ignored her, hugged that slut in front of her, even never acknowledged her. Still, she has fallen for him!

Damien looked at Ben and Curtis and said, “My marriage with her was for the sake of a treaty. She is a minor. I didn’t want to drag any attention towards her. Though it seems, things didn’t turn out the way they should have been. I will appreciate it if you two keep your mouth shut.”

Ben and Curtis nodded their heads in understanding.

“Curtis, go and visit the wounded warriors once.”

“Yes, alpha, ” and Curtis left.

“How on earth did you know about her abilities? How come you never thought of sharing it with me?” Damien asked Ben with a tone of jealousy. Well, she is his mate, she is his wife, but he hardly knows her.

“Today, only I got to know that alpha! Just before the fight.” Ben said in a low voice.

Damien sighed. He dismissed Ben. He has to talk to Alex alone about all that happened just a couple of minutes ago.
