19 He Might be Kind of Cool 6.1

After changing into my uniform Ben had driven us into town. After arguing for what might have seemed like ever it came down to he was my master and what he said went. That was that there was no reasoning with his pigheadedness. The cashier smiled at him as she batted her eyelashes.

"So sweet of you to take your little brother shopping." At this point I had changed into the clothes that Ben was now currently paying for.

"Yeah," he says ignoring her pass then looks at me plotting his big hand on my head ruffling my hair affectionately.

She clears her throat, Not missing his I'm not interested brush off. "That will be fifty-nine dollars and eighty-nine cents."

"Man your expensive." he says mockingly taking out a gold card from his wallet.

I stick out my tongue "That's why I said take me to my dorm." I mumble crossing my arms over my chest. "I could have just changed there." He laughs draping a friendly arm on my shoulder as he ushers us out of the store.

Sitting in the car I admit the new clothes felt comfortable. Guess the more expensive the better quality. Still I felt guilty I had clothes even if there getting old I had them there was no need to by more I hadn't gown in a long time. I pick at the color of my black tee-shirt that had a skull on it. Only shirts I ever got from Briggs where cotton white you could buy in bulk and basic blue jeans simple and easy.

"Thank you." I whisper. Ben hand falls on my head and pets me. A feeling that I'm becoming all to familiar with.

"Anytime. I was honestly afraid you where going to be mad at me forcing you to buy clothes. I look over at him I notice his eye glace to meet mine for a second. I was being selfish I just wanted to get you something that Briggs didn't buy you something from me." I bit my lips lost for words as I turn my attention out to the road ahead. I could see the Monastery coming into view. When we show up unharmed what will happen?

"Ben what happens if they did do it on purpose and walking in there is a trap?" I see his body tense from the corner of my eye. Then we deal with it however we need to that will ensure our survival. Don't know about you but I don't intend to die at the hands of cowards like Master Masing.." I nod in agreement. I wouldn't let Ben down like I did Briggs.

Pulling you up the car came to a stop. Mustering all the courage I had I got out and headed for the monastery doors. Ben quickly came up behind me following. "Psst," he whispers as we enter the Navel of the church. He nudged in the direction to one of the side aisles. I followed him without a word hi lead us down a stairwell to the lower basement of the church. Looking around I finally realized where we where heading to his clinic. Slipping inside he opened up the closet and pulled out a set of robes which he slipped on. I watch then as he pulls something small off the shelf as he opens the ear pieces to the silver thin top half frame glasses putting them on. Realizing I was staring I turn around giving him privacy when something soft but heavy hits the back of my head. Grabbing it in disbelief I put the robes on. They where a perfect fit.

"You keep a spare for me as well here?" I was stupidity when would he have done this how did he even know what size to get me.

He shrugged "We're partners I keep a spare here only made since I do the same for you." Lets go he said not waiting for me to even wrap my head around this.

Up in from of Master Masing's Study we where told to wait. An Hour had passed and we where still waiting and I was getting a little pissed. What the hell was he doing that required making us wait this long? I bounce my foot impatiently as we sit on the bench outside his office.

"For someone who was anxious to even come, you getting pretty antsy wanting to get in there to see him." Ben leans over and whispers in my ear. I frown at him.

"I might not have wanted to come but this is bull." I mutter. "Briggs would be in right away and out in minutes. He's doing this on purpose." I hiss lowly. "Personally I getting tired of waiting I'm hungry and still got a ton of homework to do." I continue to grumble.

Ben laughs startling Kain who stood guard in the hall outside Masing's office. You can hear him jump a little as the thump of his feet hit the ground as his hand braced himself on the wall behind him. "When this is over with I will treat you too a meal and give you a hand." He chuckles softly again.

"Are you to done playing." A voice echos in the hall. Masings has always been agitating but his tone now was grating on my last nerve. After he made us wait so long he dares talk like this.

Ben nudges at me, "Lets get this over with."

"I'm coming in with you?" I nearly chock in shock. I was always told to stay outside and wait.

"We are equal partners this is both our responsibility." I get up and follow him as we both enter Masings office.

"Report," Masing wastes no time barking out as he walks around to his desk and sits. Picking up his quill ink pen he dabs it in the ink bottle like an old fashion man and begins to scribble in a ledger on his desk.

"Upon arriving to Green Acre valley we learned that we where to late, A S rank Shikigami had purged the city of all it's residence no sign of survivors. The creature has been extinguish. Injury had been sustained but Have been tended too and full recovery is expected." Ben delivers the report though fabricated some without any hesitation. I keep my eyes on Masing as I listen.

Masing Looks up narrowing his eyes "Do tell how where you able to destroy the creature?"

"If it wasn't for Master Alastars knowledge and strength this mission would have been a failure." I spoke without thinking. But it was the truth I almost caused both our deaths because of my fear. I underestimated his strength and our bond and I paid heavily for it. I wanted Masing to give him the credit which he was due.

"I do not remember asking a nobody to speak friar." He growled with disgust slamming the ledger shut.

"Friar Jarret was trying to say is this was a team effort without each other it would have been hopeless." Ben spoke clearly placing his hand on my shoulder. "Also I asked him in here to give his input because what he has to say is as important as what own words as he was also there. If you have an issue with it then maybe I will be submitting our Reports in written form from now on seeing as you don't seem to have the time to keep our meetings and I don't have the time to wait." Ben turns on his heels and walks out of the office I follow in suit without another word. I almost had chills from how cool he was just now. I smile like a fool behind him even though he can't see. Seeing Masings smug face go so sour has just made this the best day ever.
