As soon as Amon opened the door of the shop, there was a shrill shriek from behind him, but he paid it no mind. Outside, a guard noticed him and broke rank to intercept him. Before he could even open his mouth, Amon had drawn his sword and slashed his throat. Immediately, some guards turned towards them and shouted out, but before they could take action, Ven had stepped forward and unleashed the gust she was preparing since earlier.
Her face paled considerably when she unleashed it, but the wind was so mighty that it sent the first soldiers it hit flying a few meters in the air. The others were equally helpless and fell to the ground. Even Amon, who merely stood at her side, felt like he could be forced in the air at any moment by such a brutal wind. He hadn't expected Ven to be able to unleash such a powerful force, but he was grateful as she had cleared a path through the soldiers.
By now, the three Holy Knights had noticed the commotion, and a flash of surprise flickered through Stormbringer's eyes. He reacted quickly and gave the order for the remaining men to encircle them, but he wasn't fast enough. The three Ravens had already engaged through the path Ven had created, and they reached the Holy Knights before they could be blocked.
Amon didn't waste time and engaged The Undying. He knew that if he fought against Stormbringer, a single mistake would allow his opponent to unleash his electricity and temporarily disable him. As such, Ven was a much better match as she could make use of her gust augmentation to prevent him from ruining their assassination.
Bel insisted on going against The Lion as they had to cut their match short the previous night and Bel was still sore about the wound he received on the leg. Although it didn't impair his movement, he wanted to repay the humiliation. As such, Amon was left with The Undying as an opponent, even if he wasn't too pleased with that arrangement.
Amon faced against his opponent and didn't wait before launching his first strike. He knew that his opponent made up for his relatively lower strength with great technique and he wanted to steer the fight into a test of endurance and strength, giving him the clear advantage. Contrary to his expectations, The Undying easily deflected the deadly overhead swing, and with a slight whip from his wrist, he sent his sword flying straight to Amon's heart.
Startled by the sudden attack, Amon barely had the time to kick the ground and launch himself a few steps back. Thanks to his quick reaction speed, the tip of The Undying's sword only managed to rip his shirt and graze the body armour underneath. The sight of fabric violently flinging through the air frightened Amon, as he realized that had he been a second slower, flesh and blood would have been sent flying.
Amon swore to himself that he'd be more careful and proceeded to exchange a few blows with The Undying. However, he realized that the force behind his strikes wasn't enough to stagger his opponent, who kept dealing out slash after slash.
Amon stabbed towards The Undying throat who unexpectedly made no motion to dodge or even parry. Amon had poured his whole strength behind the attack, hoping to break the Holy Knight's guard and he was unable to bring back his sword when he noticed that he encountered no resistance. His blade pierced right through the man throat, but only a trickle of blood dripped from the wound.
Amon pulled back as soon as he could, but he could not avoid the sword strike that came his way. With a grunt, he felt the cold metal bite the inside of his right arm. Before he could compose himself and hit back, The Undying leg lodged himself behind his left knee, forcing him to the ground violently. He barely had time to roll out of the way before he saw a sword generate bright sparks from where it hit the ground, where his head had been. Using his left hand, he pushed himself up and steadied his weapon by using both hands to grip the handle.
Around the two of them, there were barely any guards left as most of them had entered the restaurant to wipe out the safe house as fast as possible. Another reason was that the Holy Knights didn't want to be hindered by the presence of regular guards. In a fight of this level, they knew that cannon fodder would only be a detriment to them as they could be used a shield and would just create more confusion on the battlefield. As such, Stormbringer ordered that the few guards that were left stand back and avoid hampering their effort in dealing with the Ravens.
The wound Amon had just received wasn't deep enough to incapacitate his arm, but it was enough to weaken his grip. If he wanted to make use of his full strength, he had to wield his weapon with both hands. He didn't want to give The Undying any more advantages, so he charged right back at him. By now, he realized that ordinary wounds did not affect his opponent as he started regenerating the moment he was wounded.
The regeneration was so fast that he barely bled, even from an attack that would have ended an ordinary man's life. He still wanted to test a few theories regarding the Holy Knights regenerative powers before he used the serum Bel had given him as Amon would only get one chance, and he didn't know how long the effects would last.
Once again, Amon's charging attack was deflected with barely any effort from The Undying, but this time he was able to see the technique the latter had employed and was left speechless. Instead of receiving the blows head on with his sword, he was instead finding the best angle to deflect the incoming blade while using the least amount of force possible. This might seem somewhat simple to do, but when fighting someone like Amon who could unleash deadly slashes at inhuman speed, this was almost a superhuman feat. This also let Amon understand why his opponent had little problem dealing with his heavy blows.
This new-found information forced Amon to reassess his adversary once again. Not only was he incredibly difficult to kill, but he was also a master of the blade and was able to make split-second decisions with perfect clear-mindedness. He also chose to change his tactics. If his opponent was able to deflect his blows, no matter how strong they were, then there was no point in trading agility and speed for power. A better strategy would be to overwhelm him with a barrage of attacks so that he wouldn't be able to parry all of them, landing a few clean hits for Amon. As soon as he thought of this, Amon relaxed his muscles and focused on dealing a few rapid but comparatively weaker slashes.
Due to his lack of physical prowess, The Undying was starting to fall behind and was slowly getting caught in Amon's pace. However, his face was still expressionless, and his dead, black eyes looked almost bored as he was getting pushed back. From the start of the fight, it seemed as if he had barely treated Amon as a worthy opponent. The latter couldn't find it in him to be upset at the Holy Knights disinterest as his regenerative powers gave him the right to disregard everyone else.
After a few more seconds and nearly a dozen hits later, Amon finally saw his opponents expression change when he mixed an especially powerful strike amongst his weaker one. This wasn't done at random as he had chosen a moment when he was confident that The Undying couldn't parry his attack. There was only a split-second window for such a tactic to work, but he managed to land it with astonishing precision. This blow was different than the rest as he had not aimed to create a simple injury but had severed The Undying left arm.
With a gut-wrenching shout, The Undying took a step back; a violent fire lit ablaze deep within his eyes. Amon was just about to ignore his opponent's pain and push his advantage when he was rendered speechless by the spectacle before him. He was quite sure that he had severed his opponents' arm completely as his sword passed through without any problem, but the sight before his made chills crawl up his spine.
There was a silvery liquid connecting the severed arm to the stump on The Undying's shoulder. Its color was especially striking amidst the blood staining the pavement but what was even more eye-catching was that this liquid was lifting the arm and propping it back up on the Holy Knight's body. With a low growl, The Undying rotated the arm that was supposed to be on the ground but was now miraculously attached to his body and faced Amon. "Do you know how much that hurts? I'll make you pay for that!"
With this shout, the Undying went back on the offensive as if nothing happened. Amon didn't allow himself to be caught off-guard and managed to ward off the flurry of sword strikes that came his way. He surmised that the silvery liquid was some sort of nanobots assisting the regenerative process and keeping the Holy Knights' body from falling apart in case some part of it was severed. As such, he was pretty confident that decapitation would yield no result.
It was likely that the nanobots would act quickly to reattach the head to the torso and reanimate him. As such, the only method he had to deal with his opponent was the serum Bel had given him. However, to ensure he didn't waste his chance, he had to chose the perfect moment to administer it.
