8 Not Exceeding What It Must Be
Laquadia went to the southern fortress of the Kingdom of Yoahan. He had already visited 12 fortresses in the past days. His reason in doing this was simple; it was to occupy his mind with all the beauty of his land. Other than that, he just wanted to forget everything about Serah. 60 miles ahead was already the border of the Kingdom of Thaomos. When he arrived at the peak of the fortress which was a watchtower, he saw the large trees just after the melting ice. Each had a height of 700-1,000 feet tall. These trees were called Desul, the symbol of Thaomos.
The Lorraine Forest was the most ancient forest in Melicah. It was said that there were a powerful dragon and a mighty phoenix residing in its deepest part. According to legend, when you find these two divine beasts you could wish anything you wanted and it would come true. However, as it was said, it was a legend. Laquadia wanted to believe in it, if only he hadn't ventured the forest a hundred times. There were only wild animals and none of them were too powerful to be compared to those two beasts.
Above Laquadia was a bell the age of the Empire like the fortress he was standing. These things were built way back billion years ago when the Empire and this planet was still on its primordial age. An age where nations were numbered to thousands and rivers were overflowing with blood. That was a very, very long time ago but the moments of those days were still engraved in the walls of this structure. When the bell rang, anyone who heard it would see the war-torn past of this planet. Laquadia knew about the history of the Empire and some of them were covered with mysteries and unforgettable moments. It was glorious and exciting.
"Thinking of someone?" a deep hoarse voice asked Laquadia from behind.
Laquadia didn't bother to look at the Jadasian who spoke to him and responded still looking at the vast green forest, "Have you already finished all the simple plans?"
"Yeah, four days laying out all those simple plans are quite nice. Also, I am not impressed with what you had done on the War Hall. The stone and the chick?! Ordinary things?! Of course, they are ordinary only that you used your power to support them. You are such a God of Mischief," Deisham exclaimed sarcastically.
"Deisham, do you have the blueprints of the new tiers of spacecrafts?" Laquadia asked instead, not wanting to make their conversation about the war any longer.
Deisham who was just behind him gave out a long sigh before pulling out all the blueprints from his universal necklace that were drawn in papers. "I can't believe that you became the First Prince of the Empire and the King of the Kingdom of Yoahan having an attitude like that. You're not suited to be a leader, you're more of a follower. Ironically, you are also stubborn. I don't know what to describe someone like you," Deisham told Laquadia and walked beside him and continued, "Laquadia, there are times when we need to slack off and times when we need to be serious. What I see in you, frankly speaking, I don't know if you are serious about any of this."
Laquadia didn't speak after Deisham handed over the blueprints that looked like a 10,000 paged book. He was still looking at the forest lost in his own thoughts.
"You have been my father's General not of the Kingdom but rather of the Empire's," Laquadia finally spoke after a long silence. "Deisham, you are one of the best of the best in Bizir Galaxy. In all your career you conquered 15 Systems and 123 planets. I trusted you, and that's why I am not interfering with any of your plans. I believe in you and you must know that I am good at controlling not in ruling. If my father hadn't died, I'm sure I'd be a Commander of a Fleet not a King of a Kingdom. You see that flower?" Laquadia stopped and pointed at a budding flower covered with snow and continued, "I wish I am like it."
"You can never be like that flower because you are more than that," Deisham stated casually.
"Exactly my point. I never begged to be who I am today. I just loathe it. I want to be a normal flower; swaying in the wind, being washed away by rain or even dried by the heat of a star. Dying like any normal living being. I never begged heaven to build me a statue so that I can be remembered. I never begged anyone to know me. I hate myself, Deisham. You might think I am a hypocrite, but it's true. I just wanted to be with her. I wanted us to be together like any normal couple. That's why I wanted to be like that flower, surviving to live but not exceeding what it must be."
Deisham hadn't said anything. He just stared at Laquadia. He doesn't have anything to say. The Jadasian in front of him was hurt. He knew what Laquadia was feeling inside. He felt it before, only more tragic.
"Deisham, what it felt losing her?" Laquadia asked him which made Deisham startled a little bit. It was a question he least expected from him.
"How did you know?"
"You let me know. I am one of those who can read minds only if they lost their guards."
Deisham didn't ask more and answered Laquadia's question, "It's... I can't explain. It's painful and torturing way deep down to your soul. Sometimes, you wish for it stops but it can't. There's also a point where you wanted to die. As I've said it's torturing."
"Thanks for letting me know," Laquadia said and vanished.
"Never do the things you can't do. I'm a million times older than you Laquadia and I know what you are thinking. Just don't do it," Deisham exclaimed knowing that Laquadia was still there.
"Okay. You see me," Laquadia said and uncloaked himself before he continued, "If we saw each other again within 8 years. I'll abdicate my throne."
Deisham's eyes widened as if they would go out of their sockets. If this would be on the other time, he would take it as a joke. Hearing it at this moment from Laquadia made him feel numb. Deisham s forget everything at that exact moment. It's unbelievably believable.
"It's something a fool will do," Deisham said after he gained his energy to utter some words and continued, "The Jadase Family Clan controlled the Empire for billions of years. Hearing this from the eldest son of the 123rd descendant is something remarkable. Laquadia, coming to those words from you and saying foolishness like that for a woman meant the "end". I am wretched of your behavior," Diesham expressed his opinions towards Laquadia looking disappointed as ever.
"Sorry to disappoint you, my friend," Laquadia said and added no more.
The both of them stared at the fascinating scenery before them. Deisham's heavy breathing and Laquadia's sad demeanor only made the ancient structure they were standing more ancient. Silence once again dominated both of them. Deisham was still unsure what to say after their difficult conversation. He doesn't have the word to start another softer conversation.
"My Prince," Deisham finally found his words and turned to look at Laquadia directly. "As you know, the students in our Kingdom's 69 Military Academies are graduating next month. I would like to ask your opinion about this."
"As I heard, there are 1.3 million students that will be added to the military. Examine their improvements and start selecting the officers. I am still debating about another issue if this is the right thing to do at this point in time."
"May you be kind enough to tell me what it is?"
"Just forget about it. I, myself, is not even sure if it's possible. I'll try to tell you," Laquadia finished their conversation and walked passed Deisham.
"I'll head over there, then!" Deisham shouted at the fading figure of Laquadia. He just saw how the First Prince raised his right hand casually before he definitely vanished from his sight. "As expected. Why would you care about some trivial things?" Deisham uttered and also vanished.
