23 Salvation

Robert who felt danger right at his back had managed to draw his dagger from his waist.

*Ting*

A soft sound of metal hitting against metal could be heard. Everyone in the room then looked at the direction where Robert was sitting at, only to see him panting very hard.

He looked really tired, it was as if he had aged 5 years just for standing there. His body was covered with sweat.

He knew that wherever it was, it was now gone. Regardless, he should still be on guard in case that mysterious danger returned. It really gave him quite a scare, the killing intent was hidden only till the last minute. The worse part was that nobody else but him noticed that an enemy had sneaked in.

Although he wanted to search for the intruder he was currently unable to move. His pale complexion couldn't hide his tiredness. He had just used his own willpower in order to make his body move.

"Commander?" Someone came close to him as he thought that the commander was tired from slaying all those monsters.

"I-I'm-" He cut his words and instead just showed him his palm. It signaled that he was fine and to make the other guy leave.

He knew that maintaining the defensive line was currently the top priority, and to continue doing so would require the focus of all men. So, he didn't want to disrupt the current status quo.

He slowly took his breath while reaming vigilant towards his surroundings. His left hand was still clutching his dagger, while his left hand was touching the hilt of his sword.

He was really well aware of how dangerous that intruder could be. If he could sneak in all the way here without being noticed, then he must not have the confidence to face me head-on. Assassination and the likes must be his forte.

Now that he had calmed down he noticed that one big mistake that he had done. The prisoner escaping, him suddenly threatened with an assassination. It was all interconnected!

"SH*T! Immediately contact the squad that had been sent to contain the prisoner!" His sudden shout bewildered everyone, but they still did as they were asked.

"WHAT? Commander! There's no response!" The soldier who had reported that became pale-faced as he faced his commander.

"Immediately send the squad on th- No wait, forward me the coordinates of where the first squad was before you lost contact. I'm going there myself. Make sure to maintain the defensive line while I'm gone."

He had already left for Cray as he cautiously made his steps as the intruder might still be watching him somewhere.

Inside the darkness, however, a silent voice could be heard. "Tisk. I actually missed." The tone of his voice was quite sad. Soon after, his voice faded out into the shadows.

Meanwhile, the monster who had been chasing Hannah and her group had successfully managed to stand up as its eyes dilate as it looked at Hannah.

It then howled as if to declare that he won. He then lunged at Hannah's near dead body.

Alect who was watching all this time, now noticed that Hannah was actually a Knight Trainee when she saw her badge pinned to her chest. It was really unbelievable that she was able to injure the Double horned wolf which was a rank 8 monster.

"Well, then I guess I have to save this promising talent." She then made a move after she saw Hannah passing out before diving on a small puddle of her own blood.

Within a second, the monster who chased the people all the way here making them terrified had been beheaded. It died without even noticing who or what had killed it.

*thump* It's heavy body then fell to the ground. It shook the ground but not as much as how it shook everyone's faces.

They suddenly felt all the power leaving their body. They wanted to rejoice but the constant feeling of fearing their death and feeling relieved had repeatedly continued as if to form a cycle.

One of them broke the silence by asking, "Is it really dead?"

The situation felt really surreal, some wouldn't even complain if the monster suddenly rose again without its head.

"It's finally dead this time, I guarantee it," Alect said so after she swatted away the blood that had been in her sword before putting it again back to its sheath.

"I am Alect Louise Grenfell. The daughter of the margrave Grenfell and the current Leader of the Chivalric Order of the Silver Wings. I congratulate you for reaching all the way to the fifty third shelter."

She then gracefully stood as she introduced herself. "Follow me, I'll lead you to safety." She then led the way to the shelter. She also picked up Hannah who was lying on the ground.

"Hmm Looks like she passed out because her body could not handle the power. Come to think of it, why does she seem so familiar. It's like I've seen her before?" Hannah, however, would've died if not treated properly and immediately, so she was still currently in a life or death situation. But since the shelter had been properly equipped, there was no longer any need to fear.

Alect then thought, since she no longer felt the need to think about where and how she met her before she instead just used her handkerchief to wipe out some of the blood on Hannah's face.

She then arrived at the entrance of the shelter. "Take this girl in the infirmary as soon as possible and tend to her wound." After saying so she left Hannah to one of the soldiers and then she went back to guiding the people inside the shelter.

The people who had survived the entire journey, however, now shed tears. Some even wanted to kiss the ground.

"Thank you very much miss Alect!" A series of thanksgiving was given to Alect as she walked past them. They could still remember the way she had slain the monster that was so close to killing them all.
