14 The Heart of the Maiden

Ofcourse The Order knows, once tied and bound to somebody elses, no magic can make it undone.

Unlike marriages between commoners (people with no magical ties) or even some of magical beings, a marriage between wizards and witches is bound to forever.

During a wedding, the two combines their heart, soul and magic into one entity unbreakable whatever chaos the world is thrown into. It even amplifies their magic. Its like putting a tracking device into one another, you'll immediately know where your partner is, if he or she is in danger, if one is troubled or sad. It is magic you cannot use to harm your partner. Thus a marriage between wizards falling apart is next to zero.

They just cannot break this invisible bond no matter what they do. A few generations ago, a couple had a falling out. The lady discovered her wizard having an affair despite being married to her. She was so furious she killed the mistress in a flick. Her husband is so angry at her for doing so but his powers cannot harm her. He took his own life instead.

When he died, the witch felt half of her heart died too. Her knees gave up as if the world crumble down on her and then she lost her powers. Suddenly she is but a commoner with nothing. And eventually lost her mind.

One may think its unfair to the lady, she has been cheated and in the end she still is the one to suffer. But it doesn't change the fact that they broke each others heart. When she killed the mistress her husband loved dearly, and him when he chose another and took his life to follow her.

It is another story when the partner dies of some accident though, like the Carters. For one, Mr. Carter is a commoner and did not know of his wife's magical background. In the end only Mrs. Carter's half of a heart died with him but she continue to live well.

In another part of the world, a lone pixie is looking into the vast ocean before her but not really seeing with her eyes.

She is one of the muses in waiting for Karl. That demon. She cry angry tears. Her older sister is currently with him, filling his bed until he gets tired of her.

Soon it will be her. Her older sister is in love with somebody else but they cannot defy their fate. She came when she was called upon. Giving her body and purity to the demon instead of the man she love. The guy married someone else immediately after her sister was called.

It hurts her heart. That her sister will come home left with nothing but despair. And its hurts more that next it will be her. Only her heart is set to only love that very same demon who will only leave her with shattered pieces of her heart.

What's more, her family is part of an underworld rebellion that is meant to break free from the cruelty of The Order. Her parents just cannot take it anymore when their three daughters were all chosen to line up for Karl Montefalco. Why, oh why, does she have to love a demon who doesn't even see her, why is she willing to give him her everything when her time comes. When she cannot even hope that he will choose her. And even if he does choose her in the end, her family is bound to break them apart.

After her tears stopped flowing, she watch the sunset sadly. Hoping that her heart will set as well never to rise. She knew. She cannot continue to love.
