11 A sudden twis
"Yue, I am heading towards the city, can you give me some water," Dan said as he put on his robe.
He was feeling quite cheerful, so he wanted to explore the world outside. This was his first time getting ready to get out of the village. He got quite bored of seeing the same thing again and again, so he wanted to go on an expedition.
"Brother, you might get lost on the way. Go with Dad. He will get back in any second", the girl was worried for Dan as he had no sense of direction.
She was certain he wouldn't be able to find his way back if he were to go outside the sixth mountain. That worried her quite a bit.
"Don't worry; I am just going to explore the city a bit and come back. You don't have to be worried, I will leave behind some immortal energy so that I can trace it back."
It had already been more than a month since Yan started to live with the Yime family. Although he seemed quite relaxed at the surface, anyone could tell he was in deep agony from his troubled eyes.
Yan would constantly persuade Yue to follow him to the immortal region, however, Yue, like a rebellious child, would urge her master to keep his cool.
However, he was quite strict on training.
Currently, Yan was out to go meet with his colleagues at another part of the immortal region, so Yue didn't have to train all the time.
"You might go take the wrong step and who knows, you might mistakenly go meet the taboo existence or go to the demon forest," Yue said with concern imprinted onto her voice.
Even though Dan was older, from their conversation, one could tell who was more mature. In spite of being unfathomable, Dan was quite indecisive and mainly clueless. It could even be said if he were to told to do something stupid, he would do it.
But, the main problem was, he was bad with direction. He was even worse than a toddler.
"Don't worry about it," Dan said as he turned around and flew off like a bird set free from its cage.
"Brother Dan. That's the wrong direction." Yue's petite voice echoed as Dan set himself free. Unfortunately for her, she was too late; Dan was nowhere to be seen.
"At least he isn't heading towards the serpent forest, but still..."
As she was about to complain about having to look after him, a rustle sounded from the hedge nearby.
"And, there he goes" a voice came the girls surrounding. Along with the voice, a purplish gas started to spread in every part of the garden.
Slowly but steadily, the gas disappeared. Along with the gas, Yue and the owner of the mysterious voice both disappeared.
...
The outer edge of the sixth mountain.
"Should I go left or right?"
Dan was stupefied upon seeing what played out in front of him- the clear view of beautiful, green mountains rounding up: it was breathtaking. He had already seen the scene several times, but it always stunned him no matter how many times he looked at it.
He asked himself several times- why didn't the mother nature bless the devil world the same way it did to the spirit world? Was it due to favouritism?
Perhaps, there was a deep and profound meaning, and Dan knew that although he was quite strong, he couldn't touch that boundary. He knew even the devil lord couldn't touch or comprehend the power that decided these heavenly matters.
"Am I supposed to go left?", Dan asked himself as he looked at the baffling scene around him.
Dan glanced around the scene and he wasn't sure as to whether to go right or left.
He thought for a while before turning right.
" She did say to turn right," Dan muttered to himself as he slowly turned left.
The people at the shore of the mountain looked at the thin figure with a blank stare. They were looking at it with a sign of pity and playfulness.
"That bird must be one sun of a gun. It actually dares to go to the direction of demon forest," one voice sounded from the crowd.
Although the other didn't say anything, they clearly approved what to what the guy had said.
As a mortal, they couldn't see Dan clearly. Even if they could, they would believe they were hallucinating.
What type of immortal would be so stupid enough to go into the demon forest? The forest was made by the demons to fight against the immortal. Even city lord was petrified to get close to the area, let alone step inside the forest.
Even though the villagers and city folks didn't know what was inside, what they did know was that it was out of the reach of mortals. If they dared to even take a single step inside the forest, they would be dead for sure, and that included peak martial artist.
"Why do I feel a familiar aura?"
As Dan proceeded to make his way to the forest, he felt the presence of a familiar aura.
As he got closer to it, his blood started to rush to his head and he felt like causing destruction.
"What's this vibe I am getting!"
Dan got even more nervous as he landed just outside the forest. His heart was clenching and he was ready for any unexpected thing to fold in front of his eyes.
"Why is the devil's aura lingering here. Moreover, it's more powerful than what uncle Gaff exudes. Why is this forest here, shouldn't there be a city hereby?"
Dan wasn't sure as to what he should do, so he asked a question to which he got no answers.
There were only two things he could do now: he could either go back and ask Yue for direction again or he could just step inside and solve whatever mystery was behind this place.
He hesitated, however, after a few minutes of thing it through, he stepped inside.
Originally, he came to spirit world because he wanted to explore the place and find adventure. So he believed he was right to go inside.
He could instantly feel the bone-chilling air as soon as he stepped in. The air was so cold that even Dan started to feel uncomfortable.
Maybe, it wasn't just cold. It could be the unusual aura that was mixed with the air itself.
"My origin energy is dissipating," Dan was astonished as soon as he felt the devil energy leave his body. Along with the devil energy, the immortal energy was slipping out. The only difference was- the immortal energy could be retired again but the devil energy couldn't as he wasn't in the devil world anymore.
"Let's get out then!"
"Boom!"
His face slammed against something as he tried to move forward. It was as though there was a barrier around the edge of the forest.
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
"Get smashed!"
Dan panicked and tried to get out by slamming it with his fist, however, he couldn't even budge the barrier, let alone smash the barrier it into pieces.
"Is this how my expedition gonna end."
Dan was left baffled on the spot as he looked around.
He felt like laughing yet not.
Previously, he was arrogant and not scared of anything but now, he was here with nothing. His strength was fading and he was left helpless. If he didn't do anything, he would certainly die after a year or two.
He felt like calling for his mother, but he knew she couldn't come to save him this time.
"Woof!"
Just as he was about to go mad, he could hear a strange cry from his back.
"What?"
He looked around and he was left flabbergasted at the sight of a dog.
