95 Chapter 89
The 3 days quickly passed, as Ai fiddled about with getting things ready to go. Every time he needed to talk with Wang, he felt his heart thudding in his chest while trying to talk to the older male. However, he couldn't focus on what he had wanted to say, and often began to ramble before rushing off in embarrassment. The whole time, Wang was left standing alone unable to really describe the emotions going through his mind. He wanted to just latch the youth down and get him to stay in one spot so they could properly talk, however that wouldn't fix anything. If anything, it would only allow the old issues to return. That in itself would undo everything he'd worked to do so far.
Ai had spent the time traveling, rather quiet as he kept glancing towards Wang, unable to walk next to him. The other members of the party not really paying mind him other than giving some soft whispers about the oddity that was before them. Since they had joined the sect, Ai rarely went out without Wang. So seeing the youth unwilling to get close to the larger male was a bit confusing for them. A few of the members even thought that maybe Ai was no longer 'with' Wang. Thus they started to converse with the beauty. However it always ended with Ai awkwardly avoiding the topics and causing the conversation to fall through and fail.
Wang was rather vexed that Ai wasn't at his side, however he kept his attention on making sure the trip was met with no danger. His gaze avoiding Ai as much as possible so that the youth wouldn't feel upset. However, he still was unable to keep it away for long. Often, he would gaze back only to catch the embarrassed reaction from Ai, quickly turning to look away from himself. This in itself was rather cute in a way, often causing Wang to give a small smile while he sighed to himself. He'd even managed to hold in his annoyance when the other members of the group had tried to get closer to Ai. Instead, he'd wait until Ai's attention was placed somewhere else before silently threatening those who tried to take his wife away.
Sure he'd managed to get over his possessive need to keep Ai to himself, however that did not mean he'd allow someone else to take claim to the boy. After all, he still loved him. Even if it wasn't the best kind of love, it was his own.
When the group had arrived at the entrance to the Hidden Realm, a few other parties rested off to the side. Some Elders of different sects moving about to speak with the members of their group. Ai and Wang were left standing with their group, looking at one another a bit awkwardly. Elder Fei hadn't stated that other sects would be apart of the task. Nor had he thought to place an elder within the group to oversee them. After a few moments had passed, one of the elders closer to the group made his way over, his gaze moving over each member before pausing on Wang.
"Ah, so the Heavens Palm sect sent a group?" The elder stated while seeming to be contemplating. "Where's the elder in charge?" he then stated while once more giving a glance at all the members. Surly unimpressed with what he was seeing. Then again, his cultivation higher than the members of their group by a large margin. "We came without one." Wang stated while seeming bored, his body rather relaxed as he spoke. His gaze didn't even move to look at the Elder while he spoke, instead he took the chance to check out the rest of the groups around, taking note of the different kinds of robes as well as how they acted within their own groups. The other thing he noted was how they were reacting to other groups.
The Elder turned to look at Wang, his expression changing slightly before turning back to the falsely polite one he had on from the start. "Ah, why would you be sent without one? Should something go wrong within the Realm we can't really help. But surely you'd have someone to keep you safe before and after leaving, no?" he asked as if it were only obvious to expect danger around other sects. However his statement didn't cause a reaction for Wang, who seemed to bored to respond to the elder. Ai cleared his throat, stepping through while giving a polite nod to the elder male. Though he disliked his attitude, and could clearly see through the fake look, he still kept himself respectful.
"My Master only told us to enter the realm as a means to test ourselves. There is no need to fear danger from outside forces. He also stated that we were not to fight without reason. So there is no reason to be at odds with any group. We'll just mind our own business and avoid any issues with others." His words were light and soft, causing the elder to nod while seemingly agreeing. "However, he also stated that if a fight were to happen. Then the fall out would be left to him, we'll only need to keep ourselves safe." though there was nothing wrong with his words, clearly it wasn't as straight forward as he'd meant. The hidden meaning clearly given as the elder gave a strained smile. "Your master is?" he asked, as if unsure.
Ai let out a small laugh before shrugging. "Grand Master Fei of course. Who else would allow this?" he stated, Wang couldn't help but let out a small snort while moving to rub Ai's head, his expression rather dotting. "Of course, We'll just enjoy ourselves and should any issues arise, we can just deal with it as needed. I'm sure Elder Fei would agree with our actions."
The rest of the party couldn't help bout snicker while watching the Elders repression shift. Clearly it wouldn't be an issue to target a group that seemed weaker then the rest. What more there would be no need to worry if there was no elder. However it was different if these disciples were here on the Grand Masters orders. Being as only a small handful of cultivators ever reached a level high enough to be called a Grand Master. What more, those cultivators were rather respected. Angering one would not end up well for a lower ranked Elder such as himself.
"I see, then I worried for not. Do be careful though, not all will understand the Grand Master's Wish." he said before quickly heading back to his own group. Whatever his plan had been, would no longer involve them at least. Though that couldn't be said for any of the other groups. When the time came to it, it would be clear who was here for actual training, and who only wished to cause issues among the other groups.
The time passed by slowly, and after waiting off to the side, the gateway finally opened. Each group began to line up in the order that they'd arrived. Those who were at the front entering swiftly before being followed by those trying to quickly get a head start. Wang held back with Ai and the rest, waiting until everyone else had entered aside from the Elders who had surpassed the allowed rank to enter. Nodding towards Ai, the group entered in, each person having already been given a partner that would stay with them should anything unexpected happen. A buddy system if you will.
The portal that connected the Hidden realm with the real realm slowly shifted close behind them, before sending them to a platform in the middle of a meadows. The overly grown grass swaying in a cooling wind while the sun warmed you from above. A quick look around gave one the feeling of being in a normal space with little to offer. However, just in the distance was an oddity. The space passed the meadow was a thick forest, however just to the right of that was the snow covered passing of mountains. On the left of the forest was what appeared to be a beach connecting to an ocean. When turning to look behind, the saw an area that seemed to be void of life and filled with shadows.
"Well, I guess we'll split up and head our own ways? Each getting an area? We'll meet back up here after the time limit is up. Should you get into danger, just use the items Master gave you." Ai stated, patting his robe while starting to head towards the forest area. Though the others would have been a good place to start looking, at least within the cover of the forest he could change into his Fox form to find things. Wang, for this reason, was following him. The rest only waited long enough to look at one another before splitting of in groups of two, each heading their own way.
