85 Chapter 79
After soaking for several hours, Ai finally managed to crawl out. Shaking his body so that his fur would release some of the water clinging to him. Sitting to the side, he began to lick his paws while absentmindedly gazing at the sect uniform he'd left on the ground since arriving here. Though he didn't really care much for sects still, he'd found that at least there was a single sect he didn't mind. Elder Fei and Mo Chou had found a means to enter his heart. He just didn't really know how to react to this. He'd sworn to get revenge, but here he was, distracted and worrying over studying.
What more, now that Wang was away on a task, he couldn't stop thinking of the male. How long would he be gone? Would the other miss him while gone? Was he hurt or sleeping badly? He couldn't stop his own brain from being stupid! Letting out a deep sigh, Ai shifted to resting on the ground, not wishing to shift back into his human form. His body feeling tired while his mind swirled around with the many things he didn't want to think about. What was worse, now that he was here trying to relax, he kept seeing Haru's pale face as blood dripped from his lips, staring at him as if he'd been the one to kill him!
The image caused the young fox to tremble tightly while shaking his head. He really didn't know what to do! It wasn't like there was anything he was able to do at that time, he'd already killed those old fools with the help of the Spirit beasts. However, what about everyone else who suffers? The simple folks that couldn't fight against the Sects that used their position to threaten them? What if someone else was another person like Haru, who was being forced to do give up his own belongings to vile sect Elders, while unable to fight back?
Ai's heart tightened at the thought while he forced his eyes back open. His own thoughts trying to break through the weird haze he was now being drawn into. Pushing himself up, the young fox glared at shadows around while feeling a shudder down his spine. Sure he was upset about everything that happened before, but it wouldn't of affect him this much! What more, he cared for Haru and his family like his own, why would he worry just as much over strangers? Dread began to rush up as Ai tried to figure out who could break into the spiritual springs. However, despite how he tried to spread out his spiritual energy, he couldn't feel anything!
The shadows around him began to slowly sink closer, as if they were made of deep fog, rolling against the floor in a slow crawl towards Ai. Forcing himself the stand some what steadily. Ai slowly backed away, his gaze darting around while watching the deep fog like blackness easing closer with each passing second. It came in from all directions aside from behind, where the rock wall was. Letting out a small yip like sound, Ai jump slightly when his back end bumped into the wall, the fog still creeping closer despite his startled cry. Once the right had passed, Ai tried to tuck himself as close tot he wall as possible, his gaze darting from one section of fog to the next. Well, he wasn't really sure what else do do.
Hopefully this damn fog wouldn't kill him? It didn't seem to hold any hope however. As the silence and deep darkness from the fog caused all of Ai's fur to stand up on its ends. His heart thudding in his chest as the fog finally brushed against the edge of his tail that he tried to keep tuck next to him, the chilling feeling causing him to shudder once more. Seeing that it was to late, Ai closed his eyes while huddling against the wall, waiting to finally be submerged into the dreaded fog. However, despite sitting there for a while, Ai didn't feel anything different. His heart still thudding in his chest as he trembled lightly. He wasn't sure if maybe his mind was playing tricks on him again, causing him to think he was safe, only to completely cause him to go mad once he opened his eyes to see the fog eating him whole. Why it would 'eat' him, he also wasn't able to answer this!
However, before his brain could cause him anymore weird thoughts, Ai felt a warm body pressing against him. Looking up, the young fox saw Wang lifting him up to closely hug. His large warm hands slowly stroking his fir while a worried expression looked him over, as if trying to make sure nothing had happened to the youth. Feeling the warmth from Wang, as well as seeing the larger male, Ai finally release a breath of relief. Relaxing his body, he quickly nuzzled himself closer to Wang's body, his head resting on the others shoulder, glancing behind him to see what had happened to the fog.
Surprisingly behind Wang was not only Mo Chou the great white Lion, also in his animal form, but Elder Fei, who seemed to be holding some weird stone that glowed. Confused, Ai blinked a few times as he stared at the two. Sure he'd get why Mo Chou would show up with Wang, clearly the other would of asked him. Its not like Ai could of hid his own nature from another spiritual beast. However, the elder? He seemed indifferent to the fact that Wang was now holding him in his fox form. As if he'd already realized this?! Pressing his paw against Wang's neck he glared up at the other.
He should of been the one to tattle! What if his master didn't want him anymore? Wang however, seeming to realize what Ai was now mad at, laughed while feeling slightly wronged. However he didn't seem to try and argue the flaw in the youths thoughts. It was Elder Fei who broke the odd feeling between the two with a cough. "Little one, don't get mad at the wrong person. Mo Chou is my spiritual partner remember? He though he teased me for a while about it, he told me after a couple of days of taking you both in." he stated running a hand through his beards.
"I myself was pretty taken back, however its still just fine. No harm, you are still the pride of my peak ah! My only disciple." the elders words made Ai blink a few times, a faint blush appearing on his fur as he snuggled to hid in Wangs arms. Okay, so maybe he shouldn't of blamed Wang.
The group laughed slightly, letting the mood ease up before they began to leave, seeming unwilling to talk about what had happened just now. It wasn't until they returned to the main sect that Elder Fei's mood cooled again, seeming very concerned as the group took a seat around the dining table.
"Well…It seems that something very strong wishes to claim Ai away." he stated sighing, the rest of the group glancing from Ai back to the Elder, confused. Wasn't it a fog trying to kill him? What taking him away?! Clearly they were missing something important here?
Elder Fei signed while glancing not only at the confused expressions on the two youths, but also Mo Chou. Who seemed just as lost as the others, when he'd attacked the fog, it felt dark and cold. As if it would freeze anything it could devour. It hadn't really understood what it was, being the darkness and weird feeling of wanting was very different from everything else the demon cultivators could do. What more, he could also vaguely tell that the fog felt differently for himself, Elder Fei and Wang, than it had for Ai. It was as if they were in the way while Ai was the target.
Shaking his head, Elder Fei sighed while reaching over to smack the old lions head. "You fool. It was a binding fog." the elder stated while frowning at use stupid spiritual partner. His words causing the rest to blink confused while staring at him once more. This time however, Mo Chou seemed to realize what the issue was. Ah, that's why it felt so bad! He should maybe work back up on his own races information again ah.. How embarrassing!
Seeing that the two Master and beast had an understanding, Wang and Ai frowned while Wang cleared his throat, wanting to know what was going on. He'd been just about to return home when he'd felt the complete fear and dread from Ai, having rushed ahead despite everything, to get to Ai! He'd even ignored Mo Chou's incoming argument before he'd finally got the stupid Lion to realize the danger!
"Can someone tell us whats going on?" Wang finally said feeling really annoyed. If he hadn't returned, those two fools wouldn't of realized Ai was in danger! Clearly they weren't able to protect his baby as promised. Elder Fei pressed his lips, not wanting to reject what Wang was saying. They hadn't realized something so…annoying to slip in.
"That fog, it was a shadow Binding art. More or less, it just means that whomever set the array off, wanted to snatch Ai away without leaving any clues as to how or where he'd be taken. Ai wouldn't be able to fight, and could possibly be killed before arriving to the end point. However that's not the only issue. The issue is how it got into the Isolation Pond. It broke through the array that not even the sect leader is able to get passed. Thus its not some weak fool. Clearly someone strong wishes to take Ai away." He stated.
This caused not only Ai to feel confused, but Wang to hold some dread. Though the grand master wasn't the strongest within all this land, he was one of the stronger ones yes. There was very few who could break into his seal arrays, thus whomever had wanted Ai was clearly not to be messed with. But now the question was, why Ai?
