84 Chapter 78
Time was a fickle thing. Some times it would swiftly pass without a care, while other times it would drag out until you felt insane. Though the days still passed, Ai found himself often thinking about how many minutes and seconds had passed since Wang left. He couldn't really figure out why, but his mind wouldn't stop wondering how long he had to wait. Would the other be gone for another week? A month? The only freedom he had was during the cultivation teachings his Master would give him.
Because of this, Ai found himself hiding away within the study. He read as many books as possible. Trying to distract himself while avoiding moments were he had nothing else to preoccupy his mind. This was both a blessing and a curse. Sure he was able to learn a great deal of things by doing so, but he also found that late at night, his mind would be to active for him to sleep. Often lying in bed while his thoughts drifted off. When you avoided something, it always found a way in.
It took several days of this before Ai finally cracked. The lack of sleep clearly showing as he shuffled into the study room. Elder Fei frowned while looking the youth up and down. Though he'd noticed the strangeness of Ai, the elder had avoided bringing it up. He had figured after a few days, the other would get over whatever was troubling him. Though now it appeared as if that was not the case. "Boy, you look really bad." he finally stated, causing Ai to blink up at him, seeming dazed.
"You take today off, head up to the isolation pool and relax a bit. You've learned enough for now. You can't burn out yet." he stated patting the youths shoulder. It was the only way the Elder knew how to help. He wasn't a father figure really, though he did help teach the disciples, it wasn't like the Elder really spent time to talk to them properly. He had no idea how to handle this kind of situation! What was one to do? Simply giving him some time to work through it, yes. That's what he should do.
Though he had wanted to focus on learning, Ai was left unable to refute. His mind was clouded and he didn't really know what he could possibly do today. He had even started to fail at pill making lately due to the distracted thoughts. Biting his lip, Ai nodded as he made his way back out, heading up the winding pathway to the private Spiritual pond. Like the inner area of the peaks palace, it was the only other place upon this peak that only the Grand-master was allowed. Since he was now a direct disciple of said Grand-master, Ai also held the ability to use it.
Entering the array that sealed the cultivation pool, Ai made his way to the pond of spirit water. Disrobing his sect uniform, the youth let out a sigh as he shifted for the first time into his fox form. It had been so long, that it gave Ai a sense of peace. The small fluffy fox shaking his body while stretching the unused for limbs. Ah, maybe this was what he was missing? He hadn't realized how long it had been since he'd last changed his form. Clearly that was the issue!
Making his way to the pool, Ai slowly eased his small body into the shallow end of the pool, letting his fur soak in the spiritual energy the water gave out. Letting out a small sigh, he rested his snout on the edge of the pool while closing his eyes, simply letting the pleasant feeling wash over him. It was as if he was once more being reborn. He could stay here for ever honestly! The peace was calming, and all his worries seemed to fade away, allowing him to finally have a moment of rest without any unwanted thoughts.
Just outside of the array, a hidden figure shifted around within the shadows. Glowing red eyes peering at the space that remained hidden to all gazes. It had been so close! Just a moment sooner, then the blasted thing could have been within his hands. Letting out a hiss of annoyance, the figure shuttered slightly before fading back into the shadows as if it hadn't been there. The space returning to its peaceful calm as the shadows restored to normal.
At the other end of the sect, a crash sounded while the sect leader ranted. "I waited for several days! That damn brat kept himself hidden inside the inner grounds. How am I to do anything ah?! I thought you had a plan!" he said cursing to the young girl who trembled at the base of the sect leaders seat. If one would look closer, you'd be able to see that it was Hua, who had been secretly making her way into the sect leaders palace to pass information.
"I can't go inside the Inner palace of the grand-master because of my status! I did my best, I even requested to meet with Ai several times, however he always refused!" she stated with a pout. It wasn't her fault. That damn Elder who took her in was useless okay? He had no real power, only boasting about being strong when all he could do was delegate the outer sect. There was no power within the inner grounds!
Clicking his tongue, the sect leader glared at the youthful girl before him, sitting back on his seat while rubbing his temples. "You promised me something, figure out how to get it! I don't want to fail a second time." he stated coldly. Hua only gave a ramble of words, promising to prove herself before she hurried off. She had to come up with a new plan, or it would be her to suffer!
-Wang's View Point-
Traveling for several days was more then enough to cause Wang to break. The constant chatting, goofing around and lack of motivation within the group really pressed his patients. He wanted nothing more than to throttle each and every one of those idiotic disciples that constantly delayed the group. What searching for rare treasures while passing by? What enjoying the scenes and making memories? What taking the moment and training?! They did nothing but play play and play! They truly wanted to be beaten!
After the umpth time of them stopping, Wang finally couldn't stand it. He coldly shoved the girl currently trying to coax him. "I've had it, if you lot don't start moving and finish the bloody task. I'll return and take the damn failure!" He stated through gritted teeth. Though he wasn't a true disciple, his skill was unquestionable. He had the strongest cultivation here, and none were willing to press him anymore. Thus they finally began to travel at a reasonable pace.
The one who had been in charge of the group silently letting Wang take over while muttering to himself. He himself had also had an argument with the angered Wang, getting his butt kicked over and over before he finally stepped down, unable to beat the male. His own mood was sour while he followed along with the girls who no longer dared to try to get close to Wang.
It was only the two other disciples who hadn't been annoyances since the start, that finally started to make a headway in the group. Speaking with Wang as normal, and making plans towards completing the task as fast as possible. The three made a good team, often handling all the issues that arrived while the rest were left to sulk off to the side.
Within two days, since Wang took control, they finally arrived at the target village. Wang and Sister Mo had went to gather information while Senior Kei remained with the group, making sure they didn't cause anymore issues for them. Each of the three had clearly been pressed to their limits and no longer wanted to deal with the idiot group. Of course this would be in turned reflected when the reports were handed in. Senior Kei was only a part of the group to evaluate them. Not that the group had realized this.
Wang and Sister Mo were the only two whom had figured out what role he held, being as he was the highest ranked disciple in the group outside of the leader, who remained in the back just watching everyone else. The two didn't even bother explaining it to the group of idiots what they had done. They'd know when the returned after all. Senior Kei remembered each and everything they'd said and done. What more, he'd also took note of Wang's actions of taking over to properly finish the mission, while also noting Sister Mo's own actions of assisting him, rather than going against it.
With this, they'd be able to return within another 3 days so long as the rest of the group didn't act up again. IF Wang had anything to do with it, he'd make sure they would remain in line. He wanted nothing more than to return home! His wife was all alone and waiting for him after all! What would he do if someone else tried to snatch his beauty ah!?
