23 City Hall

A bright morning light greeted Ayase a jolly good morning. Dust particles could be seen, floating in the air. The bed she was lying on felt comfortable to lie in. The pink paint was also refreshing to the eyes, in stark contrast to the gloomy mood the apocalypse has brought. There were school books, pens and studying materials on a desk similar to her room.

"Wait. Pink room?" Ayase sat up and looked at her surroundings. The room was vastly different and there was not a single sign of the lecherous man. "Was that a dream? No. Where am I?"

Ayase stood up and went towards the curtains. She peeked outside and saw that the lifeless streets were still as lifeless as they were. She heard the door open and immediately grabbed a pen that was lying on the table beside her.

"Calm down. You are safe already. My name is Shizuka and I mean you no harm. The man who was attempting something evil is already dead." Shizuka said while slowly approaching with her hands raised up.

Ayase waved the pen like it was something deadly and exclaimed "Stay right there!"

Shizuka sighed "I really mean no harm."

Knock. Knock. There was another person behind the door.

"How long are you going to take? We don't have much time."

"Another minute. Just wait for another minute." Shizuka spoke aloud and returned to her soft voice, "We will take you to your home. In exchange we will only ask for fuel."

Ayase lowered her weapon and said softly, "There's a camp set up in the city hall. My father is there and could probably help you with the fuel."

Shizuka nodded her head and shouted to the man behind the door, "Ayase agreed to take us to the city hall."

"That's good." A German man with a fair skin and height of 5'11 entered. His black hair was cleanly cut and wore glasses that made him look smart. Even though his body was covered with a suit, one could easily see that his body was slender.

"We should go now."

Inside the City Hall, 8:30 a.m.

"Ayase I told you to run away and never to come back to this place. Why are you here? Where is Satoh?" A middle-aged man with an averagely built body was hugging Ayase like a little girl. He had bruises all around his body and one of his eyes was closed shut.

Ayase began to cry while telling her story. "Satoh he, he *sniff*, he brought me *sniff*...

"I knew that bastard was up to no good! Where is he? Even though my strength is incomparable to him, I'll still kill him!"

"Father, he's dead. Those people saved me from him. If it were not because of them, I would be dead now."

The middle aged man looked at the small Japanese woman and a tall European man who was awkwardly staring at them. He smiled and bowed many times on the floor, "This humble man is forever indebted to the both of you."

"It was rightful for us to to do that." Shizuka slightly bent her body and bowed. "We actually went to here to refuel our motorcycle. Can you help us?"

The middle aged man stood up and told them the place of the refueling station. "The refueling station was taken over by an extremely evil and heartless gang. Some of our guards were heavily injured by them and they have also abducted the women in here."

Haeckel stepped forward and asked, "Where is that?"

"It's just a few blocks away from here. Do you plan on going there?"

"Where else do you think we could get gas?"

The middle aged man became silent. There was no other place to get fuel except for the station. He was working in the city hall when the apocalypse started. The city hall turned into a place where refugees could live.

Having a superhuman ability himself, he, the mayor, led the people and turned the whole place into a fortress. With the weapons they had such as rifles and handguns, they were able to thwart any of the troublemakers. However, because of the ban on guns, they became more vulnerable to external threats.

The other day, a group of people stormed the fortress leaving a small amount of dead people and a lot with injuries. They took young women ranging from the ages of 18 to 30 and brought them away.

Yesterday, there were more people who stormed the city hall. The mayor secretly asked Satoh to bring his daughter away from his place, in fear that his daughter would also get abducted. In the middle of the fight, Satoh feigned injury and slowly backed away in the middle of the battlefield. He went to Ayase's place, and told her that under the mayor's orders, they were to immediately escape from this place.

"It's too dangerous! Those people are strong. If they weren't, we wouldn't be in this state!"

"Can you just show me the general direction where the station is? I can handle myself."

The mayor thought for a bit before pointing at a direction, "It's over there. They have more than five Meta humans but less than ten and a large number of able bodied men. You should be careful of a bald man who wields a large sword. He's psychotic and is thirsty for blood. If not because of their leader, we would have been dead since the other day."

Haeckel nodded and said thanks. He turned around and walked away from the mayor and her daughter. Shizuka followed him without saying anything.

"Dog sh*t of a mayor! Get out here!" A man was screaming outside of the townhall.

"It's them!" The mayor's face was filled with fear and panic. "Can you guys take my daughter out of here?"

Haeckel answered coldly, "No. That's your daughter, you should take care of her."

The mayor knelt and bowed many times with his head banging the floor "Sir, please. I will do anything for you."

Haeckel stopped walking and stared at the mayor, pondering about what he would do.
