5 Wear it with pride

Ruin, was one of the few words appropriate to describe the once beautiful sanctuary atop Mount Thundermine. Structures lay in wreckages, craters littered the ground and in the middle of it all were 3 figures. An old man sipping tea, a collossal dragon of ice and a kid with tired eyes. The child's clothing continued to repair itself as he stepped out of the crater. The dragon stood solemnly gazing at his long-time opponent.

"Old man, it's been weeks and it doesn't look like i've actually done any damage" shiro groaned with tired eyes

The head captain just opted to continue to drink his tea in silence. It has been nearly a month since the two began fighting. Shiro has been eating in the middle of the fights and Skasa would sometimes steal his food away for sustenance. The stalemate between the two reflect on their tired eyes. Although the ice dragon may not look it, but she is on her last stand.

"Hey ice dragon, can you speak?" Shiro took a moment to ask his long time acquaintance

After a moment of silence the dragon opened it's mouth and asked "What do you want"? her calm voice did not show any form of pain or fatigue

Shiro's eyes lit up with joy. "Ah well I was hoping I could learn your name considering how long we've been at this"

The dragon stilled for a moment but responded "I am Skasa the Ice Dragon, Ruler of Mount Thundermine"

A look of recognition flashed through shiro's eyes "Oh I thought you looked familiar, I am Shiro Aversis"

The dragon was confused as she had never met the boy before "I do not remember ever meeting someone... as durable as yourself"

"Ah well I've just heard of you before but I never thought I'd meet you, it's actually an honor to meet you" Shiro said with more enthusiasm in his voice

This actually stroked the dragon's ego a bit as she seemed to puff up with pride "Well I must say it is nice that someone of your strength holds me in such high regard"

"Well I just want to ask would you like to be my partner?"

This intrigued the dragon " You wish for me to be a familiar of sorts to you?"

"Sort of but more of a friend that also helps me in battles sometimes" He responded a bit nervous of rejection

"Should I accept, how would you bring me with you? I can tell you are not of this realm and I am unable to shapeshift into a human form until I reach the level of heavenly dragon" She was actually interested in the proposal, the child while she is currently more powerful than him. She knows that he will grow stronger in time especially if actually killing him seems impossible.

"Ah well I can take care of that don't worry, so do you accept?" He asked hopefully

"One last thing, why do you choose myself instead of others in this realm? I know of others more powerful than I such as those apostles"

"Ah well.... it's just I really like ice dragons.." He responded sheepishly

Silence was all that was heard for a long moment until "KUAHAHAHHHAAHA" loud laughter reverberated within the field

"Ah come on, you don't have to make fun of me" he groaned covering his face

It took a minute for the laughter to die down "Ah hehe... apologies it's just that is the most interesting thing I have ever heard. I accept your proposal and am willing to serve you master"

"Ah please just call me Shiro, I really am not good with being called anything formal especially something like master. Well just hold still for a moment." He said as he put his hand on her head

The last thing Skasa saw was bright light

The moment Skasa opened her eyes she was greeted by the site of an enormous tree brimming with life. Looking around she saw a volcano and a scorched land in one direction, in another she saw a beach with an ocean leading out past the horizon. In another she saw a snowy plain with a small mountain.

"Well I'm glad it worked"

She turned her head back towards the tree. Infront of the tree was Shiro with a relieved smile plastered on his face.

"Where is this? I can feel myself growing more powerful as the mana and spiritual energy flow towards me. That tree is brimming with so much life force that should not be possible" She spoke amazed. She really was growing more powerful just by breathing here. She could probobly reach the level of heavenly dragon within a few years and Dragon God within 10 or less more afterwards.

"Ah well your in my soul. I sort of bounded your soul with mine so were stuck together now. I hope you don't mind."

The dragon was dumbfounded. No wonder the human seemed impossible to kill. With a soul strong enough to house something like that tree it's no wonder he was so hard to kill. Even if she could do visible damage to him she doubted it would take him long to recover. "I do not believe I will regret following you. I will serve you from now on and forever." The dragon seemed to grin for a moment

"Oh also at the volcano over there is Ryuujin jakka, it's my sword spirit. Honestly I'm not sure if it has a gender or not considering it's just a large torrent of fire. I hope you two get along and talk to you later" He disappeared back into the outside world

'Well I guess it's confirmed that Skasa is female now. Who knew?' He didn't remember the game ever specifying Skasa's gender. But judging from the voice it sounded female.

footsteps stopped behind him "Well you sure took your time didn't you?" The old man sounded amused

He just sighed "Well it would have been faster if you didn't force me to use my fists but I'm guessing you knew this would happen didn't you"

"I simply wanted you to have more company after we part ways" the head captain said solemnly

Shiro took a moment to process his words "Wait what? what do you mean part ways?" he asked a bit confused

"Did you forget your purpose here? You have dealt with the dragon, and become a fine shinigami." The old man said with a small smile

"Wait but I'm still only around lieutenant level? I still have a lot of room for growth" he said worriedly

"You are already at the level of a kido master. While the amount of reiatsu that you can bring out is only around lieutenant-low captain level, it is mostly due to your young age. Your swordsmanship still requires work but you have the basics down, it would be better to wait until you are older for your height to increase. Your shunpo can only be honed on your own at this point and your control over your spiritual energy has improved after your battle." he stated

he continued "I have focused on your hakuda and kido as most shinigami tend to dismiss them in favor of their zanpakuto. And without me there is no one to properly teach you kido after we part which is why I was so adamant on teaching it to you."

He moved infront of shiro with a look of pride on his face

"You have become a fine shinigami. As the head captain of the Gotei 13 I declare that you are qualified to be a captain" he continued to smile taking off his haori to hold infront of him

Over the past 7 years since I've been in this world I haven't once cried. But taking the old man's haori I can't help but start shedding tears on it. I hear him continue.

"A captain's haori is more than just a piece of cloth. It is a symbol of pride and dignity of the accumulation of hardships that a captain has gone through to get to where he is." His smile never leaving his face

"Wear it with pride, Captain Aversis" his eyes were actually open as he said that instead of those small slits that are normally on his face

I tackled him with a hug. I couldn't help it, this man was like an actual father figure for me. Even in my past life I didn't have an actual father figure due to family problems so this was a new experience for me. I was unable to properly put all my feelings into words so backing up and kneeling I shouted

"YES, HEAD CAPTAIN"

He began fading away. The look of pride never leaving his face as he looked into my eyes until finally he disappeared.

I didn't have long to feel sad as a portal appeared above me and it pull me towards it.
