Chapter 84: Die Together Part Three
Luo Weiran pinched a dessert from the plate and put it in his mouth. He said while chewing, “We can’t get involved in the war.”
Hou Wenji nodded and looked outward at the door. “Then, let’s go back to talking about this case.”
“Can’t you wait until I’m full?” Luo Weiran said helplessly, “I finally forgot about it temporarily. If you mention it again, I won’t be able to eat anything.”
Hou Wenji turned around and said, “I already sent people to investigate Fang Jie’s background; there is nothing.”
At this moment, a guard from the outside quickly ran over. He bowed toward Hou Wenji at the door, and Hou Wenji asked what was going on. This guard said that someone was here to see the Royal Guard Captain.
“Who?” Luo Weiran asked.
“A daoist… He is young, short, and fat.”
Luo Weiran’s expression changed, and he smiled at Hou Wenji bitterly. “The person who is the hardest to deal with is here.”
…
“I have to go.” After Fang Jie folded the blanket on the bed, he grabbed a broom and started to clean the room. While cleaning, he said to Wu Yidao, “I didn’t want to say ‘thank you’; these two words are too light and don’t mean anything; I would rather do something for you since you saved my life. However, I can only say thank you. I’m afraid that I can’t do anything for you anymore.”
Fang Jie’s back was bent, and his movements were a bit stiff.
Wu Yidao nodded and didn’t try to get Fang Jie to stay a bit longer. “Sorry. I don’t dare to keep you at this moment.”
Fang Jie straightened his back and smiled at Wu Yidao. “I wouldn’t do it if I’m in your position.”
“Fang Jie… What is your background?” Wu Yidao asked.
Fang Jie thought for a moment and replied, “Would you believe me if I tell you that I don’t know as well? In fact, I want to know the answer to this question more than you. I have been trying to find the answer in the last 15 and a half years. If nothing goes wrong, I will be confused for the rest of my life.”
“Now, something went wrong,” Wu Yidao said.
Fang Jie shook his head and said, “I don’t mean this incident.”
Soon, Fang Jie cleaned the room. Then, he dusted off his clothes, cupped his hands, and bowed toward Wu Yidao; this was a formal gesture of gratitude.
“Goodbye,” Fang Jie said.
“I thought that I picked up a treasure, but it turned out to be a hot potato,” Wu Yidao sighed and didn’t say anything else.
Fang Jie walked out of the room with a calm expression, and Da Quan was already waiting for him at the door. These two quickly walked out of Wu Yidao’s residence and sped up. Soon, they saw the three-story wooden building after walking through several streets.
Fang Jie thought that he would be nervous seeing Beckon of the Red Sleeve again, but he was extremely calm.
“I never liked Chen Qingshan,” he said while walking.
Da Quan nodded and said, “I also don’t like her. I think Xiaoyao is much better.”
“Is it worth it to risk your life for someone you don’t like?” Fang Jie asked Da Quan.
Da Quan chuckled and said, “Don’t try to dissuade me; it is useless.”
Fang Jie nodded and stopped trying.
After they walked into Beckon of the Red Sleeve, the workers still smiled and greeted them; perhaps they had no idea what just happened. Fang Jie and Da Quan greeted them back and walked into the backyard.
Soon, they saw the crippled old man who was sitting before a room and drinking liquor.
“I’m back,” Fang Jie said.
The crippled old man nodded and asked, “Have you thought everything through?”
“There is no need to think,” Fang Jie replied.
Then, he pushed open the door and saw Mu Xiaoyao sitting beside the bed. Although she was in the flying-fish robe, Fang Jie knew that this uniform had lost its purpose.
Fang Jie slowly walked to the bed and looked at the woman lying on it; she was as fragile as a piece of paper.
He took the bowl of liquid medicine from Mu Xiaoyao’s hand and sat down beside the woman who was so weak that she couldn’t even open her eyes properly. “Idiot… I thought you are the smartest person in the world. Now it seems like you are the most idiotic person in the world.”
When Fang Jie spooned the medicine, she opened her mouth.
“Will the idiot die?” the woman on the bed asked.
“Yeah.” Fang Jie nodded and smiled lightheartedly, “We will all die together.”
Hou Wenji nodded and looked outward at the door. “Then, let’s go back to talking about this case.”
