Chapter 82: She Would Kill Part One

Fang Jie only woke up after fainting for two nights and one day. This was Fang Jie’s first time being so vulnerable in a strange place before strangers.

When Fang Jie woke up, he was touched and thought, “There are still good people in the world.”

Then, he concentrated and tried to see if there was anything strange with his body. He was shocked when he found that he was naked, but he heaved a sigh of relief after he saw his belongings and the thin stack of silver certificates.

After lying down for three seconds, he counted all the silver certificates stingily.

The tearing pain in his abdomen disappeared. Instead, it was replaced by extreme fatigue as if he had just finished running a marathon. Due to this fatigue, he took more than ten times the time to count the money, and he didn’t even have the energy to lift his hand afterward.

Fang Jie had never felt this way before. He was more tired compared to when he participated in the five-kilometer race that his school hosted on Earth.

He felt like he had no strength left, and he was only a doll.

Just as Fang Jie tried to recall what happened before he fainted, someone pushed open the door from the outside. Fang Jie turned his head with difficulty and showed a sincere smile of gratitude. Although he knew that his smile looked ugly right now, it was extremely sincere.

It was Wu Yidao, the richest merchant of Great Sui.

He had his signature warm smile and was wearing his signature sapphire-blue fancy clothes.

Although Fang Jie had never met Wu Yidao before, and he didn’t see this famous person after he paid 1,100 taels of silver and got on a horse-drawn carriage, Fang Jie was sure that this person was Wu Yidao.

This man wasn’t tall nor strong; he was quite slender. However, the charisma of a middle-aged man was completely showcased on him. Even when he didn’t open his mouth, he appeared elegant and unworldly. It was hard to associate him with money.

You could never judge someone by how they look.

“It is great that you woke up.” Wu Yidao smiled and sat down on a chair by the bed. Then, he poured a cup of cold tea and passed it to Fang Jie.

Fang Jie shook his head a little, telling Wu Yidao that he didn’t have the strength to hold the cup.

Wu Yidao was surprised, and he sat on the bed, lifted Fang Jie’s head, and fed him the drink.

When the cold water entered his body, Fang Jie almost moaned in comfort on this warm day.

“I thought I was going to die.” Fang Jie only found that his voice was hoarse and raspy like a broken trumpet when he spoke. If he weren’t sure that this voice came from him, he would think that there was another person in the room.

Wu Yidao nodded and smiled. “If you didn’t wake up, I would have to put you in a bag and throw you outside the city. If my workers are kind, they would dig a grave and bury you. If they are lazy, they would just drop you in the wilderness and feed you to the wild beasts.”

“You aren’t someone like this.” Fang Jie panted and shook his head.

“Why?” Wu Yidao was interested in Fang Jie’s impression of him.

“If you are truly a greedy person, you wouldn’t have helped me for only 1,100 taels of silver. After all, I might be a murderer, and I might be a deserter. The military laws of Great Sui are strict. Even if you aren’t afraid, you might find the consequences troublesome. Also… I trust my instinct,” Fang Jie said seriously.

Wu Yidao smiled and sat back down on the chair. He said, “Trusting your instinct is the most unreliable method. When I started my business from scratch, I thought just like you. After I lost all the money that I borrowed the third time by trusting my instinct, I finally realized that instinct is BS. On my fourth try, I stopped doing business based on my instinct. I tried my best and borrowed 15 taels of silver, and I learned from my first three failed experiences as well as traveled around more, saw more, and thought more. That was how I built my business. Rather than trusting your instinct, it is better to trust the value of your existence.”

Fang Jie nodded and knew that Wu Yidao wasn’t wrong. If he didn’t have any value, Wu Yidao wouldn’t keep him. As the richest merchant of Great Sui, Wu Yidao wasn’t a saint. In both this world and on Earth, it was impossible for a nice person who yielded to everyone to become the richest person.
