Chapter 77: Who Got Lucky? Part Two

“I knew you would be stingy!” The Emperor rolled his eyes and said, “After I drink your tea today, I will tell Su Buwei to send you 500 grams of the red-robe tea.”

“Thank you, Your Majesty!” Yang Yin cupped his hands and bowed, looking overjoyed as he won out on the trade.

After the tea was made, the Emperor smelled it and praised, “See, I already said that Sixth Brother has great stuff. This tea is the lotus-heart that has at least 14,000 tea leaves in 500 grams. The value of this pot of tea is enough for a small family to spend for a year.”

“Wu Yidao gifted this tea to me,” Yang Yin quickly replied.

The Emperor smiled and didn’t pursue this topic. He pointed at the small city further away and said, “Send someone to notify them; tell them that I want to see the result today. If this competition doesn’t end before nightfall, I will send all three of them to the borders. Even if Luo Yao, Jin Shixiong, and Li Yuanshan kneel and beg me, I wouldn’t take back the order!”

One guard quickly got on his horse and dashed toward the small city.

The Emperor drank some tea, thought for a moment, and said to Zhou Banchuan, “Senior Zhou, Hou Wenji told me something interesting two days ago; I’m truly happy. Beckon of the Red Sleeve returned!”

“Huh?” Zhou Banchuan who was squinting and drinking tea got surprised, and he almost spat out the tea.

Xu Xiaogong who sat the farthest from the Emperor looked at Royal King Yi subconsciously and then quickly looked away. He knew the Emperor well; the latter wasn’t saying this for no reason. Everything that the Emperor said to his officials contained a deeper meaning.

Xu Xiaogong only glanced at Yang Yin since he knew that even though it seemed like the Emperor was talking to Zhou Banchuan, he was saying this to Royal King Yi.

“Did Seventh Brother come back?” Yang Yin instantly stood up and asked anxiously.

The Emperor shook his head and said, “It has been ten and a half years. I sent people to look for him all over Great Sui, but not a trace was found. However, it is great that Beckon of the Red Sleeve returned; I can now see the shadow of Seventh Brother. I already told Hou Wenji to inform the officials. Since Beckon of the Red Sleeve is now back, it should open for business as usual; all the taxes should be paid as well. This is the same rule when Seventh Brother was here. However, the local government shouldn’t make it hard for them. If I learn that some people are making small moves in secret, I wouldn’t go easy on them.”

It sounded like the Emperor was referring to the local government of Chang’an, but everyone here knew what it meant.

Zhou Banchuan squinted, but he was smiling.

Xu Xiaogong looked down at his feet and stayed silent.

Yang Yin smiled bitterly, shook his head, and sighed, “I made the mistake once; I wouldn’t make it again.”

An hour had passed since the Emperor’s order was delivered, yet nothing was happening. Royal King Yi got a little impatient, and he asked Zhou Banchuan who seemed absentminded, “Senior Zhou, do you think anything will happen today?”

“Of course.” Zhou Banchuan opened his eyes and laughed, “Since His Majesty gave the order, how could these three little guys go against His Majesty’s wish? I think they are still trying to figure out how to take on this challenge. We can wait for a bit longer.”

The Emperor smiled and added, “If these three instantly charged at the small city upon hearing my order, then there is no need to watch anymore. As generals, when they make a move, their goal should be to win. If they move only to please me and not to win, then they are all wastrels. It would be better not to use them at all.”

Yang Yin couldn’t say anything else; he simply stared at the small city in a huff.

The Emperor said, “Sixth Brother, you are still the same; too anxious.”

“I have already become a lot calmer,” Yang Yin said humbly, “I have cultivated flowers and raised birds these years to grow my patience. I will continue to do so.”

“Eh,” the Emperor nodded and said, “You can’t rush the process of growing patience. If you hurry, it wouldn’t be growing patience but growing temper.”

Hearing this, Yang Yin’s expression dimmed and thought, “Your Majesty, I already decided to grow my patience and not get involved in the government. Why do you need to remind me again?”

At this moment, Xu Xiaogong suddenly passed his monocular to the Emperor and said, “Your Majesty, there is movement over there.”
