Chapter 55: Lies Part One
The middle-aged man in grey was about 20 meters away from Fang Jie, and he was holding a wooden scoop, feeding water to the horses. Although the spring was small, the water was clear, and the three horses from Northern Liao each drank water orderly.
After the horses all drank, the middle-aged man praised, “Good, you know more rules than most humans.”
By saying that, he meant some people weren’t good in his eyes. However, it was hard to tell if he was referring to Fang Jie or the royal guards in flying-fish robes.
After drinking, the three horses lowered their heads and started to eat grass, not neighing at all. It was unknown if they were afraid of disturbing the tranquility of this place or were afraid of other things.
The middle-aged man casually threw the wooden scoop to the side and said, “Turning a scoop of water into a lake; this is the peak, and it is hard to break through it.”
For some reason, even though the people after them caught up, Fang Jie didn’t look scared. Instead, he smiled at the middle-aged man in grey and said, “Turning a scoop of water into a lake is the peak? If you want to make it bigger, you can use a bucket.”
The middle-aged man didn’t mind Fang Jie’s tone. He thought for a while before shaking his head and rejecting Fang Jie’s proposal. “A wooden bucket would be too big to carry.”
This sounded funny, but this man’s tone was extremely earnest.
Fang Jie also didn’t laugh. Although he was half-joking, this man before him carefully considered his recommendation. This was a man who was serious toward everything, which was respectable.
“Mister, why did you lead my friend to this place?” Fang Jie asked this middle-aged man after looking back at the royal guards in flying-fish robes who stopped about 20 meters away.
The middle-aged man smiled and replied, “I wanted to invite you three here, but my skill is too low. Therefore, I was only able to invite this lady. As to you two… one of you has a mind that is determined enough to shock me, and the other has deep hatred in his mind, making his guard too high. Therefore, I could only lure you two here by using this lady.”
“As to you…” The middle-aged man looked at Mu Xiaoyao and praised, “Your senses are extremely acute, so you sensed me without me doing much work. Since you could detect me, I was able to make you walk here. Your talent is great. If you have a great master, there will be a great figure in the world in less than 15 years.”
This man was the second person who praised Mu Xiaoyao’s talent; the first was that crippled old man who seemed unreliable.
“We aren’t in a hurry to talk about that. Why did you lure us here?” Da Quan asked while stepping forward and clenching his fists, and he looked at this middle-aged man with hostility. There was also a sense of fear hidden behind the hostility.
What this middle-aged man said instantly shocked Da Quan.
“One of you has a mind that is determined enough to shock me, and the other has deep hatred in his mind, making his guard too high…”
Da Quan was shocked by this; he felt like the secret that he hid in his mind for 16 years got seen through. He even suspected that this man wasn’t a human but a monster who obtained the human form after years of cultivation.
“I’m not a monster; I’m an ordinary human,” this middle-aged man suddenly said this as Da Quan thought to himself, and the latter’s expression changed as he suddenly took a step backward.
Fang Jie took a deep breath, slowly drew out his saber, and said to the middle-aged man, “Regardless if you are hostile or not, please state your reason for being here. Perhaps you are an unparalleled master, but we aren’t sheep that you could easily butcher.”
