Chapter 46: Flying-Fish Robe Part Two
Xiang Qingniu looked at Fang Jie in suspicion. He didn’t like eating candies since they were a bit sticky, but he was feeling more and more anxious right now. Therefore, he had to grab a handful and stuff them into his mouth. Just as he was about to grab another handful, Fang Jie stopped him, packed up the rest, and placed them into Xiang Qingniu’s pocket.
“That is enough. You will feel fine after resting for a bit,” Fang Jie said.
Xiang Qingniu froze for a second before asking in surprise, “You know medicine?”
“No, but I know what is going on with your issue. A long time ago, I had such issues as well, and I felt better when I ate a few pieces of candy.”
“What is this illness?”
“It is hard to explain it to you. In simple terms, you can think of it as your stomach needs sugar.” Fang Jie then pointed at Da Quan and Mu Xiaoyao and said, “His stomach needs meat, and her stomach needs liquor. These aren’t big issues, but it feels terrible when they act up.”
After a while, Xiang Qingniu was surprised to find that the weakness that he had was gone. He instantly admired Fang Jie more, and he was overjoyed.
“You don’t need to stuff your mouth with food in the future; just bring a pack of candies,” Fang Jie said lightly.
“How should I thank you? How about I go easy on your during the entrance exam of the Martial Arts Academy and make you enter with ease?”
“Stop that… tell me who those assassins were.”
“This… is a secret… Hey! Don’t take my candies! I will tell you, ok?”
-Maple Forest Ferry Dock-
This was the biggest ferry dock on the way from Xiang City to the Capital. After getting on boats at Maple Forest Ferry Dock and passing Xiang River, people would be outside Long-West State, entering River-East State.
Xiang River was one of the five most famous rivers in Great Sui, and it was the biggest river in the west of Great Sui. Even the narrowest section of the river was more than 300 meters wide.
The section of Xiang River was the calmest at Maple Forest Ferry Dock, and dozens of ferryboats would travel on the water.
Beside the dock, there was a reed marsh, and many people would come here to fish.
There were big fish inside Xiang River. If one were lucky, getting dozens of big fish in a day even with many other people fishing in the area wasn’t an issue.
It was heard that long ago, there was an old man who caught a giant fish that was more than ten meters long. That fish was named Iron-Head, and it had a ton of brute strength. It somehow bit onto the fishhook and dragged that old man into the river.
Iron-Head Fish did exist in the river, and many people saw such fish when they were on the boats. If they encountered such fish, they had to toss the pig heads that they prepared ahead of time into the water; it was a tribute to the River God.
This story had been passed around for generations. The big fish was the main character of the story, but it somehow changed completely.
Now, the most popular version of the story was that the old man single-handedly pulled the iron-head fish that was more than ten meters long out of the water. Since this fish had iron-like teeth and was about to bite, the old man shot a beam of golden light into the head of the big fish and shouted, “Beast! Quickly subdue to me!”
Then, that big fish shrunk in size and transformed into a human before kneeling in front of the old man. Since this fish wasn’t vicious innately, the old man accepted it as a disciple, and they went away.
Since this story was so popular in the region, many kids would come to the river, toss dust into the air to pretend that it was incense smoke, and kowtow toward the east, hoping that old man would come back on a cloud and accept them as disciples as well.
A story was only a story; people shouldn’t put too much faith in it.
