Chapter 45: Those People Part Two

Da Quan and Mu Xiaoyao exchanged a look and saw the intense worry in each other’s eyes.

The crippled old man didn’t say anything else, and he looked at Fang Jie meaningfully before leaving.

Xiang Qingniu also became quiet and didn’t say anything even when Fang Jie pressured him.

However, Fang Jie could tell that the crippled old man and Xiang Qingniu looked at him differently now. They looked at him as if he was a stranger, and a trace of hostility could be seen in their eyes.

This angered Fang Jie.

Xiang Qingniu and the crippled old man already guessed these assassins’ identities, yet their tones toward these assassins didn’t contain hostility but a sliver of respect. This made Fang Jie feel like he was the one who should have died, and these assassins were the heroes.

The horse-drawn carriages moved forward. Although the road was still flat and smooth, everyone’s mind was covered by dark clouds.

It was hard to tell if Xiang Qingniu was fearful of Fang Jie’s terrifying eyes or something else, he ditched sitting on the horse-drawn carriage and crawled onto a horse with difficulty even though he was lazy. He rode alongside Cui Lueshang, seeming to create some distance between him and Fang Jie. Perhaps it was due to alert or hostility.

This feeling wasn’t good.

There were five people in the group a moment ago, yet now it was Fang Jie, Da Quan, and Mu Xiaoyao again.

Due to the shock and sadness, Cui Lueshang still seemed a little zoned out. He rode on his horse and followed Fang Jie’s horse-drawn carriage, giving others the feeling that he was in a dream.

Beside him, the white and fat Xiang Qingniu sneaked peeks at Fang Jie from time to time. He wanted to say something several times, and Fang Jie saw it.

“Fang Jie…” Da Quan swung the horsewhip as if it was a way to vent his frustration. “How about let’s not go to Chang’an? I feel like this journey wouldn’t be peaceful.”

“You are scared?” Fang Jie asked.

“Yeah, a little bit.” Da Quan nodded.

Now, the caravan fleet of Beckon of the Red Sleeve was about 300 meters in the front; it felt like those people also wanted to keep a distance from this horse-drawn carriage, not wanting to get involved.

“Those assassins… none of them is a master,” Da Quan sighed.

Fang Jie nodded and replied, “I know; I killed five of them. They are weaker than veteran soldiers who have been through many battles. In terms of one-on-one combat, they are no match for those soldiers of the Elite Infantry Battalion of Right Valiant Guard. Although their reaction speed is insanely fast, it doesn’t suit their combat abilities. Therefore, they only had one way to kill me, and that was the first strike. They already failed when those dozens of arrows didn’t kill me. They only had one method, and their cultivation strength is non-existent, yet I almost got killed by them. These assassins are scary.”

“Indeed,” Da Quan replied, recalled the battle earlier, and knocked on the compartment of the carriage before asking Mu Xiaoyao, “Did you think of something?”

Mu Xiaoyao wasn’t sleeping or lying down; she was sitting straight while drinking liquor. Hearing the knock, she placed down the liquor bag and slowly exhaled.

“Their cultivation strength is low because they want to merge with nature; people with high cultivation strength aren’t able to do it. Due to the high cultivation strength, masters would appear unique, and their presence would be eye-catching. Those assassins had insane reaction speed after long-term training. Of course, such training isn’t on cultivation but how to kill with one strike. This training would be cruel… the goal couldn’t be achieved in a short time.”

“Why?” Fang Jie asked.

“They hid their emotions; they didn’t have a sliver of human emotions. When in cover, they were a part of nature. They could be rocks, blades of grass, and a handful of sand, but they couldn’t be humans. In this state, they aren’t humans in others’ perception.”

Da Quan nodded and added, “Therefore, no murderous spirit could be sensed before they moved.”

Fang Jie froze and quickly summarized Mu Xiaoyao and Da Quan’s points.

With more thoughts, these assassins who seemed to be ordinary people seemed more terrifying. If it weren’t for his luck and the fact that he had been the target of many assassination attempts, Fang Jie would have died today.
