Chapter 4: Where is he? Part Three
“Chief!” A policeman nearby picked up something round but couldn’t tell what it was. This item was half-buried in the sand, and he wouldn’t have discovered it if he didn’t kick the sand.
This item was a strange wooden sphere with a small hole in it.
Fang Henshui walked up and check it out.
His face changed color as he gasped, “A prayer bead!”
He turned around and took the hat off a corpse and saw the circular burn marks on the head.
[TL Note: Chinese monks have circular burn marks on their heads left by incense sticks when they officially entered the temples.]
Fang Henshui’s expression turned ugly as he stood up and said, “They are from the Buddhist Sect.”
Although Great Sui didn’t like the members of the Buddhist Sect who always talked in big words, and the Buddhist Sect didn’t have privileges in Great Sui, this was a big incident.
Fang Henshui was only the police chief of a small county, and he couldn’t handle this case. The Buddhist Sect had supreme status outside Great Sui, and the emperors of several empires were selected by the Buddhist Sect.
The Great Wheel Temple on the Great Snow Mountain had the most power in this world and not individual emperors!
The Great Wheel Wisdom King’s words were more meaningful than the words of any emperor.
The Buddhist Sect didn’t have a great relationship with the Daoist Sect in Great Sui. If the former used this issue to accuse Great Sui of wrongdoings…
Fang Henshui shivered before turning around and ordering, “Move these corpses back to the County Office and ask the County Magistrate to deal with this case.”
“In ancient China, it was a centralized government. In a county, the county magistrate had most power and controlled the court, police force, and all other departments.]
On a big tree a few hundred meters away from the scene, the person hiding in the thick leaves saw the policemen leave, and he smiled and dashed into a forest until he reached the depths.
“Ye Xiao, how was it?”
As soon as this man stopped, another person jumped off a tree and asked, “Did those dog-noses of Great Sui leave?”
This man named Ye Xiao nodded and said, “They left. However, it seems like this little police chief know a thing or two. Hen Gun, where is the Young Master?”
“About a kilometer away. It seems like you have gotten used to calling her ‘young master’.”
“We called her this all these years. How can it not stick?” Ye Xiao smiled and ran deeper into the forest.
Under a giant pagoda tree, there were two people who were holding weapons and on guard. One of them was a muscular man who was about 2.5 meters tall, and he looked like an iron tower. Although it wasn’t cold in the winter beside the Yangtze River, it wasn’t as warm as the summer. However, this man was half-naked and showed his bronze-colored skin. The most eye-catching was the red kirin tattoo on his body.
This man was so big that others would be afraid just looking at him, and the giant saber in his hand was thicker than a door.
The other person’s face was covered by an Asian conical hat. With his head lowered, this person was cleaning his unique weapon – a pair of cymbals!
[TL Note: Cymbals are big flat metal musical instruments.]
Two females sat under the pagoda tree. One of them seemed asleep, and she hugged a sword. The sword didn’t have a box nor a scabbard, and it was as reflective as the calm surface of a lake.
Since this woman’s head was lowered, others couldn’t see her face, but her figure was alluring enough.
The female beside this woman was about 15 years old, and she was looking up at the sky while cupping her chin.
Her smooth long black hair contrasted with her white robe, and her face was weakly pale. Her figure was so thin that it was pitiable.
She wasn’t a gorgeous girl. The first impression that she gave others was that she was ordinary. However, upon a closer look, others would see that her facial features were delicate, and she was quite charming, especially her bright eyes; others would be jealous of her bright eyes. Perhaps she could see the things that others couldn’t with this pair of eyes.
“Young Master.”
Ye Xiao dashed over and urged, “We have to go. More hunters will come.”
“Where?” the girl in white shook her head and said in a sad tone, “How long are you planning to make me the scapegoat?”
There were five people protecting her, but where was the person who she was protecting?
This question often crossed her mind.
