5 Supply Run
2034
Sia doesn't know how many hours she spent studying the different doorways. The amount of information the computer has stored seems monumental. There is even a doorway marked Incendiary. Whatever that means.
When she finally figures out how to escape Immersive Mode, she notices that she has a bit of a headache, but her body feels very well-rested. She sees a jug with a quarter of it filled with water, and an open can with a utensil sticking out of it placed on the table. When she grabs the can, it is cold from sitting out for so long. The window outside shows it is midday.
After finishing up her food, she makes her way outside. Her first stop is the bathroom, but she can't seem to find it. While wandering around, she spots a short woman shaking out a wet pot.
"Excuse me, where do you go to the bathroom?"
The woman barely glances at her before pointing with her rag in a direction. Their latrine area is disgusting. They seem to be nomadic people, so they don't need to have any working bathrooms or sanitation systems worked out, but she hopes that someone has tried to fix the bathroom situation in this world.
Sia sighs before unzipping her jumpsuit. She's going to have to get some new clothes soon; she can't imagine stripping every time she needs to go to the bathroom but these are the only clothes that she has. After taking care of business, she goes in search of the leaders to find out what they have in store for her.
Walking for a couple minutes, she notices a cluster of people along the outside of the makeshift village. They are loading boxes onto trucks and talking to men dressed in dark clothing. The men and the wanderers all have worn clothing, but these men all have guns of some kind. Sia can see Eli directing some men to put certain boxes into specific vehicles. Beside him, a person wrapped in a blue scarf, and goggles, is crouched and drawing in the dirt with a stick. When the Wanderer leaders show up, Eli approaches and talks with them at length.
Sia searches for a seat or space to settle down then notices three people approaching her. Two men and the stern woman from before. They all have backpacks, and the woman is carrying two. She moves aside to get out of their way, but the woman shoves a backpack into her arms. The two men pass by to meet up with the leaders and Eli.
Conti searches the crowd and spots Sia. He waves her over. He takes the backpack from Sia's arms and opens it up, showing her the supplies that they have provided her with.
"You all will be traveling with the mercenaries half of the way and following Sia's directions toward the headquarters that she has spoken to us about," Conti tells them. "Hopefully, you'll be able to meet up with the group that she had been traveling with. "
Conti looks forward to hearing information about them, and any details that may signal a trade agreement being thought up.
They will never make contact with the fictitious group that she was separated from. Sia will have to find her way to the headquarters alone.
Something inside of their database might give her the answers she needs about who attacked ExplorerTech Industries and America. The headquarters might help her figure out who made this device, and the limits that it may have. Maybe it has a manual.
It'll probably be easier for her to separate from everyone after the mercenary group splits up from them. She just hopes that there is enough daylight left for her to see. She would hate to travel at night. She still doesn't understand the dangers of this new world. Everyone piles into the back of the vehicles and refrain from talking to each other. That's fine with Sia because she will be conversing with her super cool buddy.
She closes her eyes and activates the immersive mode. Her body becomes limp, and as the vehicle rides down the bumpy unpaved roads, she slips to the side onto the person beside her. The smaller individual huffs and pushes her back the other way. She slumps to the other side and against the side railing.
Across from them, Eli laughs, "Hahaha. She almost squashed you there, little buddy. You okay?"
His little buddy scornfully glares back.

"So, who bombed America?"
INFORMATION CLASSIFIED
"Are there any more news reports about any enemies attacking New Cinalia or America?"
The virtual table in front of her piles with loads and loads of information. Factual and sensational materials, conspiracy theories, and blog posts. Sia becomes overwhelmed with all the information and decides to focus on something else instead. She already has the route she will travel for Coldstone figured out, but there is one thing she really needs to know.
"Search: Terrence Rogers and movies"
The virtual table changes from left to right and fewer materials are piled upon it. Sia grabs one of the pieces of paper and reads information on a movie from 2012. She goes along the table until she sees information on him from 2025, and then 2033. She sighs and sits on the virtual chair.
"All may not be right in the world, but at least you still exist to give it joy." She says while gazing at a photo of her favorite comedian, singer, actor, and activist.
Her world is jostled and she gasps before surging up.
"Move it, Princess!" she hears a voice yell.
Sia jumps up and hits her head on the frame of the top of the vehicle.
"Aaah," she moans as she jumps out and follows the familiar voice.
"That's the woman that tried to kill me when I first got here. I just recognized her wrathful voice. Is she upset she is no longer the only Amazonian woman among her people?" Sia thinks while stomping along. "Well, between the two of us...I'm the Amazonian, and she's the behemoth."
Sia chuckles as she looks at what everyone is doing. They've stopped in a battered plaza. The men are moving the supplies inside one of the buildings, emptying the trucks. The sun is beginning to set.
"Hey, Princess! Over here. Get out of their way!" Vanessa shouts.
'I feel like she is trying to be mean, but I enjoy this nickname,' Sia thinks as she jogs over to one of the buildings. 'It's much better than any of my usual ones.'
The two men walk into the back room of the restaurant, and call out, "This seems big enough."
They tie a rope around the swinging kitchen doors to keep them still and locked closed. Vanessa opens the freezer and holds the door opens with an old rusty chair. Entering the freezer, she kicks out some old moldy boxes and uses the side of her foot to sweep together wrappers and scraps. After tossing out most of the garbage, she calls to the men that their sleeping quarters are ready.
"They're sleeping in a freezer?" Sia says with a skeptical face.
"We."
"We're sleeping in...What if the door closes on us and locks us in?"
"Whoever is on guard duty will open the door," Vanessa looks at Sia like she is a child.
"What if we suffocate? What if they forget about us and we suffocate?"
"There are worse ways to die."
Sia's mouth gapes open and close as she struggles to come up with an alternative arrangement.
"You are welcome to sit along with the guard, but if something happens and we are safe from harm with the freezer, don't expect anyone to go back for you."
Sia looks at the flimsy rope that is holding the kitchen doors closed and the metal freezer doors. She sucks in a deep breath, holds her head, high and walks into the freezer gripping her backpack tightly.
'I'll just look for door opening information. Lil Puter must have something about that.'
SYNTHETIC INTELLIGENCE DEVELOPER
'Huh, did I ask for something?'
Sia lays her backpack under her head and curls up in a corner of the freezer.

Guns can be heard going off in the distance. The mercenaries guarding the plaza use their night vision goggles to make sure the danger isn't nearby. Everything becomes silent once again. They all lower their rifles.
Suddenly, a loud buzzing sound can be heard coming from above. A car is driving down the bumpy road at top speed and crashes into a cement slab.
The passengers' desperate cries are heard as a swarm of giant insects push through the broken windows and eat at them.
The mercenaries lay low on the ground and keep silent. The feasting creatures across the street finish their meal, then continue on searching for more prey. They pass right by the plaza. The mercenaries stay tensed and check their weapons for several hours before relaxing. The guards switch out, and the next shift watches everything as everyone wakes up. When the sun, rises everyone is woken up and the supplies are placed back into the trucks. As Sia is stretching and looking around the area, she sees a mass of wriggling matter.
"Graaaah! What is that?!"
DERMESTIDS, THE HIDE BEETLE
THEY SEEM TO BE FEASTING UPON THE DEAD FLESH OF AN ORGANIC BEING
"Is it natural for them to be that large?"
NEGATIVE
"Those beetles are nasty, but they don't eat anyone that's alive. You don't have to worry," Eli says, coming up behind Sia.
Sia awkwardly smiles at him and then makes her way to the back of a vehicle. As they drive away, she grimaces at the sight of the creatures.
