35 You are my Family

"You're drenched in sweat, want to change your clothes?" Luke asks.

Eunica looks at her shirt, it really is wet, even her hair's wet.

"Yes, please. Can I take a quick bath as well?"

Luke stares at her for a while, thinking, "No bathroom. There's a river near, we take a bath there."

Since this is a temporary shelter and they have to transfer from time to time, having a bathroom is not necessary.

"Oh," Eunica nods her head, "No problem with that."

She remembered how she would take a bath on the lake near their house when she was a kid, this is not a big deal with her. Honestly, she missed it. Letting the cool water from nature clean her body was something a bathroom cannot give.

She stood up as she waits for Luke to bring out some towel and a silk robe-like dress.

"That's... your mother's," he said with a sad voice, "Father kept it since he thought she'll come back."

The dress does look like it's been worn by someone, but when she learned that it was her mother, Eunica can't help but cry.

"Hey..." Luke went beside her, "Don't cry."

She's so happy to learn about her family, and now, she can have a piece of her mother's things, "Thanks, can you bring me to the river?"

Luke nodded, "I'll stay with you too."

They went out and had to take the way at the back of the camp, they weren't able to pass by the feast where Jin, Lucio, and Iaz are in.

The sun's setting down, the sky reminded her of Jin's hair. The beautiful tawny color of it makes her feel at ease.

As they walk through the forest with a small trail, Eunica can hear the river's sound. The water rushing down, rocks clashing with it, and the birds and insects songs made her take in a deep breath of the clean and refreshing air.

"We're here!" Luke exclaimed.

Eunica saw the river, it was not large but big enough for people to take a bath, the water's not even rough. It flows smoothly.

"I'll stay here, just take your time. I like hearing nature's sound," Luke said and turned his back against the river to give Eunica some privacy.

"Thanks," Eunica dripped her toes to the cool water, it was cold but not enough to make her shiver or numb.

She took off her clothes and entered the river, "Woah, this is so cool," she said.

"Right? During this time of the day, the water's not warm or cold, just enough to make you relaxed. Everyone's in the feast that's why you can have the river all for yourself," Luke replied while playing with stones beside the river.

Eunica took water with her palms and wets her hair, "Ohhh, this is soooo good," she said and later she plunges her whole body into the river.

Since the river's as high as her chest, she only has to bend down a little, later she decided to swim with the flow for a while and went out since the sun's already gone. Only a small red-orange ray of light was left on the sky.

She wears her mother dress and dried her hair with the towel.

"You look pretty, like your mother," Luke said as they go back.

From what she saw in the photo, she has a resemblance with her mother. Her eyes and lips are similar to hers. Even her hair color.

"Thank you, Luke."

They can hear the people cheers and songs as getting near the camp but Luke stops, making Eunica stop on her track.

"Something wrong?" she asks.

Luke was looking at the light coming from the camp, his face was sad and worried, "Cuz," he called, "Will you betray us too?"

The question came as an offense to Eunica at first, but after realizing what her father did, she gazes over the camp as she shakes her head.

"No, never."

Even if she's happy for her family, for her step-mother and half-sister and brother, she won't let the hybrids die. They are her family too.

If her father did betray her and her mother's family, she won't let him getaway. Even if she has to put him on the same side of Luinn. Even if... she has to forget that he's her father. She knows what is right. And she won't stand with wrong. Not even once.

She knows her mother won't let her family suffer, she was blinded by her love to her father. But she knew if she knew what her husband's doing now, she won't forgive him too.

Riches? Is this all about that? She knows her father's not the type who dive into waters for gold. He wants safety for everyone, that is why he built SINS. He wants everyone to be happy.

"Then, I'll help you meet Raye," Luke said and turns his head towards Eunica, "I want to live freely, Eunica. Like humans. Like before."

"Before?" Eunica asks.

"Yeah, Father said, before the wars, before science and money, humans and hybrids live peacefully and happily. They helped each other. They loved each other. But when leaders grew afraid and intimidated by hybrids, they declared them as the world's enemies."

Luke sits down on the grass while his eyes turn to the camp, listening to the happy voices of the people, their songs, and laughs.

Eunica sits down too, "You know," she whispered, "When I first met the first hybrid I had to work with, I was... afraid."

She didn't want to admit that, but right now, Luke needs the truth.

"He's different from me. I don't know what he can do. But... as I meet other hybrids, I learned who they are. Not what they are. They are just like humans. They breathe, they cry, they laugh, they feel pain... oh god, pain," it broke her heart when she remembered how hybrids cry for help when they're hurt, how they begged for their life.

She pursed her lips as tears start to form on her eyes, blurring the scenery before her, the stars look like circles of white light, "Humans... we, fear what we don't understand, we fear things much stronger than us. And if... that thing can't provide any necessary help, we destroy it. Throw it as if it's nothing. We don't value the small importance of things."

Luke nodded, "Yeah. But you're not a human," he said with a soft voice as if he's consoling Eunica.

"Am I not? I acted as one though, I turned blind eye to the hybrids, covered my ears from their cries, kept my hands to myself when they needed help."

Jin grew worried when he learned Luke and Eunica went to the river and decided to check on them, Iaz went with him, but before they can even leave the camp, they heard Luke talking with Eunica.

They stopped behind a wide tree and listened to their conversation.

"We learn from our mistakes," Luke commented.

Eunica shakes her head, "But that won't change anything. They died and suffered. I can't change that. It already had an impact on the present."

Luke wasn't able to reply, it's true. The damage has been done and that made the present. But regret is not what they needed now.

"That's why we're here to create a good future, right?" He asks, waiting for Eunica's agreement.

"I think so. Anyway, don't worry. I won't trade you guys for a wealthy family. You are my family," Eunica stands up, "I'll make everything right."

Luke nodded, "You will. And we will help you."

"Thanks, Luke. You're the best cousin," she said and went to hug Luke tight.

"Hehe," Luke smirks when he saw Jin peeking at them behind a tree and hugs Eunica tighter, "You smell good, Eunica!"

"Do I?" she asks and rubs her face on Luke's hair, 'This kid smells like strawberries and roses,' she thought.

Jin bites his lower lip in irritation, Luke's face is exactly on Eunica's breasts! He stares at Luke's eyes and gestures his thumb slitting his throat. Luke rolled his eyes and sticks out his tongue.

"Chill, if you get jealous over that kid, you'll end up like a kid," Iaz said and gestures for them to go back since Eunica and Luke's walking back already.

"Do you know something I don't, Iaz?" Jin asks without moving on his spot as Iaz was about to go down, "I know Eunica told you something that I don't know that's why you're asking me this questions."
