Chapter 233 A Noisy Breakfas
Charles sat on the head of the table and gave the order for the tea to be served. A few moments later Roy came over the table holding a porcelain jug and poured tea from everyone.
“It smells good,” said Katherine. “Where is it from?”
“It is black tea produced by the subsidiary of Williams Group. It improves digestion, eliminates toxins, and rejuvenates the skin.”
“Wow. Is it true that it will make my skin look younger?”
“Of course,” said Roy. “The effects of this tea have been widely publicized in many medical journals.”
“I’m wondering why tea was served before breakfast today. Must be some special occasion. Maybe Charles has something to share with us.”
“Actually, we’re waiting for Miss Brook,” whispered Roy to Katherine’s ear.
Katherine raised her eyes in surprise.
“Okay…” she muttered and took a sip from her cup.
It tasted wonderful indeed!
Earl frowned. He didn’t like being treated this way but he was willing to accept the simple fact that Charles may have woken up today on the wrong side of the bed. That’s why he decided to switch the topic. Maybe things would improve between the two of them if they talked about business.
“What are your plans for the Williams Group?”
“I just got a government contract,” replied Charles. “We’re going to build a Biological Research Center.”
“Really? I had no idea you were interested in biological research.”
“As a businessman, I will get involved with any sector that promises a hefty profit.”
“You’re way ahead of everyone! Some bird must have whispered something into your ear.”
“You got me there,” said Charles.
“It seems you’re on the brink of a significant discovery.”
“There is some talk about a new blood type that holds tremendous potential. It could revolutionize the pharmaceutics industry.”
“Oh, really? In which ways?”
“Let’s leave this topic for later. Bella is here,” said Charles.
Indeed, Bella was standing at the door. She saw the visitor and understood right away that this man was Earl Spencer. She was going to turn around and skip breakfast but Charles saw her and got up to greet her.
“Please. Come and sit with us,” he said.
She didn’t want to come off as being rude, so she accepted the invitation. Seeing that her usual position was occupied, Charles gestured to Roy who brought a chair and put it next to Charles’s so that Bella could sit.
“Now that everyone is here, let’s eat breakfast,” said Charles.
“Does Bella want to drink some tea first?” asked Katherine.
“She has a bad stomach,” said Charles. “She can’t drink tea on an empty stomach.”
“Who is this girl?” asked Nathan.
“Dad, she is Bella, daughter of Richard Beck, sister of Edwin Beck.”
Nathan was taken aback by this unexpected revelation. It was really to his surprise that Edwin had found his sister Bella Beck.
“Are you really Bella Beck?”
“I must be. That’s what everyone has been telling me,” said Bella.
“Apart from being Edwin’s sister, Bella is also my wife.”
Bella’s eyes rolled thrice in her sockets. She could not believe what she had just heard. How could Charles introduce her like that to Katherine’s father? Did he not care about the possible implications?
As much as he had found quite distasteful the way Charles had made public his relationship with Bella, Nathan had to deal with it. After all, he had to consider Katherine’s reputation.
“What are you going to do with Katherine now that you’ve married Bella?”
“As an adult, she has accepted my decision,” said Charles calmly.
“I would like to know how she agreed. Would you have changed your mind if she did not?”
Nathan stood up and pointed his finger angrily at Charles.
“Have you forgotten your promise to Katherine? You promised to take care of her for a lifetime. How could you marry another woman?”
“I’m sorry for breaking my promise. I will agree to any compensation you propose.”
Nathan roared at Charles furiously. “Charles, you are not a gentleman. You are a liar.”
Bella looked at them with anxiety.
Was Charles serious? Did he really plan to break up with Katherine? How was it possible? Was he crazy? He said that he would agree to any compensation. Oh God! What if Earl demanded an exorbitant price? He seemed to be much harder to deal with than Katherine.
Nathan did not care about looking like a lunatic and kept on shouting at Charles. “I don’t care about any compensation. I want Karen to be happy!”
Katherine seemed quite distressed by the way things were turning out. Tears were flowing down her face as she tried to convince her dad to stop.
“Dad, don’t be like that. We broke up with each other peacefully. I did it of my own free will.”
Those words, however, were not enough to make Earl stop.
“Do you know how much Katherine went through for you? She has become infertile because of you and this is how you repay her?”
“Dad. I am a grown-up girl. I can handle this on my own.”
Bella was shocked by the revelation. She didn’t know that Katherine had become infertile because of Charles. This was too much of a sacrifice not being able to have children for the rest of your life just because you loved someone.
“It smells good,” said Katherine. “Where is it from?”
