Chapter 232 Nathan Arrives

“I’m still unable to figure out what Bella is to you,” said Edwin. “Could you explain to me?”

“There is not much to explain apart from the fact that Bella is my wife,” said Charles. The reply almost gave Edwin a stroke. His hand reached out for support as he almost collapsed to the floor.

“You better get used to the idea, you impostor!” said Charles and cackled. After seeing Edwin’s reaction he was now one hundred percent sure that Edwin was not Bella’s brother but rather someone who was after her heart.

Now that he had the satisfaction of the final word, Charles teleported himself away from Edwin’s room and back to the Mansion. His job here was done.

Meanwhile, Bella was having one more of those sleepless nights. She was lying on bed and trying to reach out in the darkest corners of her memory. She could remember very few things from her childhood, one of them being the day she was kicked out of the Sanders family. She remembered that day vividly because it was raining.

She always believed that it was normal for a person to forget his childhood years but today she discovered what a mistake it was to think in this way. The photo album had made it clear to her that there was something wrong with her. It was impossible for a normal person to have such large gaps of memory. An entire chunk of her life experience spanning several years had gone missing and she was determined to get it back.

It puzzled her that Edwin remained so calm while she looked at the album. Which only meant one thing. Edwin was aware of her memory loss. This made her believe that her memory loss was related to some obscure family secret.

She spent a large portion of the night is lost in a confusing maze of thoughts until she finally fell asleep. What woke her up the next morning was not the alarm but a wet kiss. It felt like a cat was licking her lips. In her half-asleep state, she pushed the thing away.

It turned out that it wasn’t a cat but a long piece of wood, which emitted an organic warmth. Bella felt a certain sense of pleasure in touching it. She wrapped her fingers around it and brought it closer to her mouth.

Charles could not believe his luck. He never expected Bella to act in such an enthusiastic manner. He pressed his thing against her lips and waiting for them to open up. She was about to invite him in.

A second before that was about to happen, Bella opened her eyes and stared at what she was holding with a sense of deep dread. Unable to believe what she was about to do, she pushed it away and wiped her mouth.

“How disgusting!” she said. “I want to throw up!”

Charles watched her patiently and made a comment about how cute she looked. Despite his own personal sense of frustration for not getting what he was after, he could fell her state of confusion. She was taking this innocent game much more serious than what she ought to. Something that he did not refrain from telling her.

“Were you having a good time, you shameless man?” she asked him.

“Why did you have to wake up so early?” he said with complaint.

“Your condition is irreversible!” she said and pushed him away to get up.

Someone knocked on the door at that moment. It turned out to be Roy who was looking for Charles but Charles sent him away.

“I think it’s time for you to go,” said Bella. “You’ve already had your fun.”

“Hold on,” said Charles and grabbed her arm.

“Let go of me you a rapist or else I will shout! Why don’t you go find your Roy who must be looking for you?”

“First you need to feed me,” said Charles.

“Will you leave if I do that?”

“Yep. No more amorous stuff.”

She bared her neck and pulled back her hair to expose the fine texture surface of her neck.

Charles licked his lips before he took a bite.

It was all over in less than a minute. As a final gesture, Charles took Bella’s cup from the bedside table and drank some water to clean his throat.

“Hey, Count Dracula! That’s my cup you’re drinking from!”

“I know. If you want to avoid similar incidents in the future, you should have an extra cup which I can use.”

“You would like that, huh? Barging in my room any time of the day and night and doing whatever you please? How about I also prepare a pair of slippers?”

“I’m out of here,” said Charles and rubbed her hair. “See you at breakfast.”

Roy was waiting outside the room for Charles to show up. There was a serious reason for him doing so. A very important guest had arrived at the Mansion.

“Earl Spencer is now in the dining room with Miss Spencer,” announced Roy.

He could hear them laughing and gossiping from down the corridor. Only when Charles entered the hall did they go silent. For a second they seemed confused by his sudden appearance but they resumed their roles instantly.

Earl stood up to greet Charles but Charles gestured him to get back to his seat. Actually, it was Bella’s seat where he was now sitting.

“Haven’t seen you for a long time, Earl,” said Charles seriously.

“Given your relation with Katherine, how about you call me ‘dad?’”

Roy who was standing by the door lowered his head and tried to hold back his laughter. How could Charles, who was two hundred and sixty years old call Nathan ‘dad?’

“It’s better that I continue to call you Earl Spencer. Don’t forget it’s a royal decree.”

He had given Nathan the same answer so many times, he didn’t mind giving it once more.

Katherine decided to cut in. She didn’t like seeing her dad lose face.

“Can we eat breakfast now?” said Katherine. “I’m so hungry.”
