Chapter 227 Brother and Sister Reunited

Bella was afraid that Charles would introduce Katherine to Edwin and tell him she was the one he loved. Last time on the mountain, every word he had said to her echoed in her mind. It was at that time she got convinced that Katherine was the one he loved.

Bella felt very tense. Charles gave her a pinch on her waist hoping to make her feel more relaxed. Katherine saw Charles’s action and didn’t like it at all. Her hands under the table were clenched into fists. However, a smile still hung on her face. She looked at Charles hoping that he would tell Edwin that she was the one he loved.

This was something he refused to do. Instead, he chose to introduce Katherine in another way.

“Have you met Katherine? She is Earl Spencer’s daughter. I invited her here because I wanted to thank her for saving my life.”

After he finished speaking, Bella sighed in relief.

“This is the fabulous Miss Spencer,” stated Edwin.

Edwin, of course, knew the relationship between Charles and Katherine. He was surprised by Charles’s words. Had they broken up with each other or simply Charles wanted to show Bella how much he loved her?

Edwin curled up his lips. No matter whether it was a play or the truth, at least it showed that Charles cared about Bella.

Charles pulled the chair in the position where Bella always sat and gestured her to sit down.

“May I sit next to you?” asked Edwin.

“Of course,” replied Bella with a smile.

“Charles, you haven’t introduced me yet to our guest,” said Katherine with a frustrated tone in her voice.

“It’s Edwin Beck. Bella’s brother,” said Charles with a monotonous voice as if he was too bored to talk to her.

Katherine’s face changed color when she heard that. If Bella was really the sister of Edwin, then she was no longer the daughter of a poor family. Katherine had lost her main advantage against Bella. In terms of family background, they were now equal.

Katherine immediately lowed her head to cover her nervousness. When they were kids, Bella was better than Katherine in everything but at least Katherine was richer.

Edwin noticed Katherine’s sudden change of heart and gave her a smile.

“Have you forgotten that we spoke last night or did you lose your memory in the period of one night?”

Edwin rubbed Bella’s hair and continued talking.

“We three always played together when we were young. Do you remember that?”

Bella coughed suddenly upon hearing those words. She almost choked on what she was eating. How could such a thing be possible?

Soon she remembered that Katherine had indeed called Edwin last night, telling him they were childhood sweethearts. If Edwin was her brother, then she might indeed have known Katherine when they were kids.

It was hard to get accustomed to this new reality. She was overwhelmed with the happiness of finding her brother and tried not to think too much about that.

“Are you sure that Bell is your sister?” asked Katherine. “I’m aware that her mother is Bess Brook. She is in the hospital now.”

“Bess Brook used to be our housemaid. After the death of my parents, she took care of Bella. I hope it doesn’t sound too weird.”

Edwin did not plan to tell Katherine the truth. For so many years, he and the true Edwin had been looking for the cause of his family’s car accident and all evidence pointed at Nathan Spencer being the main culprit.

“It’s strange that Bella does not remember me from her childhood. Don’t you think so?”

“I can’t remember that we used to play together,” said Bella in a low voice. Then she looked at Charles. “Is there anything wrong with me?”

It seemed that the oldest memory she had was from the rainy night when she and her mother were taken away by Len Sanders. She used to believe that she remembered that night because everything was so impressive. Only now did she begin to see that maybe there was something wrong inside her head.

“Don’t think that way,” said Charles. “The things you don’t remember are just the insignificant details,” said Edwin.

“Is that so?” Bella did not believe that at all.

“I have brought you the album. You can have a look after dinner. Maybe the photos will remind you of something.”

Katherine didn’t like being left out in the cold and was furious. “May I have a look at the album now?” she asked with a fake smile. “There may be some photos we have taken together.”

“We don’t need to do that yet,” said Edwin. “My dream for a long time has been to have a meal with my sister and chat with her about the old times. Let’s not spoil the moment.”
