Chapter 226 Edwin’s Arrival

The sound of a car engine reached Bella’s ears. She looked out of the window and saw a white Lamborghini in the driveway. Edwin had arrived.

She rushed out in the corridor and down the stairs. Charles was already in the hall waiting for Edwin. Instead of his suit, he was dressed in a Ralf Lauren blouse and Gucci slacks. His hair was combed backward except for one tuft resting over his forehead.

The way he moved around with both hands in his pockets reminded Bella of a Harvard senior. She was very surprised by this sudden change in his looks and manner.

Charles was also impressed by Bella’s appearance. Her pink dress outline perfectly her slim figure and the delicate curves around her waist. He almost drooled as he stared at her from head to toes.

“Would you like us to go out and welcome Edwin?” asked Charles and stretched his arm towards her.

“Do we really need to do that?” asked Bella.

“I thought you wanted to give Edwin the impression that we live in harmony.”

“Good idea,” said Bella and took his arm.

Bella was nervous. How was she going to address him and what should she talk with him about? Was it okay to ask him questions about his past life? There were so many things she wanted to catch up with but she didn’t know where to start with and what kind of sensitive topics she ought to avoid.

The closer she was getting to Edwin, the more nervous she felt.

Edwin was about to get out of his car when Charles and Bella appeared at the main entrance. They were both dressed like film stars and held on to each other. This display of intimacy came as a surprise to Edwin. Bella and Charles seemed to be perfectly well together. Not exactly what he had in mind.

They were both smiling as they came down the stairs to greet him. He got out of the car and approached them. Compared to what they wore he was dressed too formal. He had chosen a black suit and a tie.

“This is for you,” he said to Bella and gave her a gift bag. She looked inside and took out the book and the album.

“The Little Prince!” she exclaimed.

“I knew that you were hoping to read this,” said Edwin.

“What is this?” she asked and held the album with both hands. “It seems somehow familiar.”

“You bought it when you were a child,” said Edwin.

Before she had the chance to open it, Charles grabbed the book and the album and handed them to the servant. Bella made a sudden move to prevent this but she suddenly pulled her hand back.

“Let’s all go inside,” said Charles without letting go of her. The way he acted wanted to show Edwin one thing. That he was Bella’s one and only master.

“I see that you’re in much better shape now,” said Charles as they went up to the stairs.

“Yes, thank you,” said Edwin.

“I can introduce you to some good doctors. You know, I have my own Clinique.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” said Edwin.

“I was so scared when I heard about what happened to you,” said Bella.

“Don’t worry. I’m fine now,” he said.

They stared at each other with something more than the affection shared between siblings. Charles felt strange when he saw them looking at each other in such a manner.

He put his hand around Bella’s waist and tried to make bigger the gap between the two of them.

They entered the lobby and headed to the dining room. To everyone’s surprise, Katherine was already there. She was sitting at the far end of the table and was waiting for dinner to be served.

“Is he our honored guest?” she asked and gestured to Edwin.

When she arrived, she had heard Roy tell the other servants to use only the best quality dinnerware for tonight was a special occasion. Katherine asked who was this special guest but Roy refused to tell her so she decided to wait and see for herself.

Nobody was expecting she would be waiting in the dining room. Bella feared the possibility of an intense argument erupting right before Edwin’s eyes. This was not the sort of meeting she had in mind. The presence of Katherine was unlikely to convince that Bella was having a good life at the Williams Mansion.

“Seems that one woman is not enough for Charles Williams,” said Edwin before Charles had the chance to speak.

Charles gave him a threatening gaze. He knew very well that Edwin had said this on purpose. What he wanted was to undermine his relationship with Bella. However, for the sake of Bella, he had to maintain a civilized persona.
