Chapter 223 He Wanted Her Safe

Charles examined the documents carefully while Ziv was standing right beside, waiting for the next order.

“Is it certain?” asked Charles.

“He escaped from Devenport Research Institution. We have checked that person and he indeed served as a servant to Earl for ten years.”

Charles sneered upon hearing those words.

“Don’t stir the grass and startle the snake. If he did so, I won’t forgive him.”

“Do you have a plan, my Lord?”

“He will come tomorrow because his target lives here. He will seek to get close to Katherine. That’s why we must always keep an eye on him.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

“Any news on the airline records?”

“I have compiled a list of all the airlines with flights over the Polar regions. Unfortunately, the flight information-including passenger lists-have gone missing. It may or may not be a coincidence that the heads of all these companies are all dead.”

“He certainly knows how to take care of things,” sneered Charles.

“Do you think Earl is the secret boss behind Devenport?”

Charles did not say anything more. He waved his hand and Ziv left the room. In the afternoon, the DNA test result came out with a positive result. Charles found Bella and told her that she’s Edwin sister.

“Should I call him?” she asked.

“If he wanted you to call him, he wouldn’t ask me to act as a middleman.”

“I don’t understand why he asked you that.”

“He is not sure you will believe him. I too was dubious at first but the results leave us no doubt.”

“If he is my brother I need to contact him right away.”

Charles attempted to call Edwin. The butler who picked up the phone said that Edwin was too sick to come to the phone. His condition had deteriorated the last few hours and he was receiving emergency treatment.

Charles informed Bella about this and told her she would have to wait if she wanted to meet her brother. This was something Bella did not want to hear. Now that she knew Edwin was her brother, she didn’t want to leave him alone. Not at such a moment.

Charles warned her that the emotional strain of meeting his long lost sister could be fatal to Edwin. Bella agreed with this and decided to wait until he was better.

After the butler hung up, Edwin started to pound his fists on the surface of the wooden table. He stopped after a while and began crying. A few drops of tears stained the wooden surface. Nick who was in the same room, had the chance to witness the ridiculous spectacle. He rolled his eyes in disbelief. He couldn’t believe that an adult man would act in such an immature way.

“What’s wrong with you?” asked Nick.

“The situation is messed up. The real Edwin went to the Williams Tower to find Bella and reveal their relationship.”

“It’s not a bad idea for long lost siblings getting together again,” said Nick.

“Can’t you see that he wants to sabotage our love? He knew that I would never reveal myself to Bella as her brother, that’s why he did it himself. He did not hesitate to use medicine to achieve his purpose. He would rather lose his life rather than see me and Bella get together again.”

More tears stained the shiny wooden surface.

“Can you stop acting like a crybaby and start thinking serious for a moment? He is dying and needs to make sure that someone will take care of Bella when he’s gone.”

Edwin glanced at him and then went out of the door.

“Hey, where are you going?”

“Going to the top of the mountain. I want to ask him why was he so cruel to me fifteen years ago? I think Bella deserves someone better than Charles. Someone that will never make her cry again.”

“I think you forgot to mention something very important,” said Nick.

“What are you talking about?”

“Charles is the only person on the planet capable of protecting Bella,” said Nick.
