Chapter 222 Memory Check

Edwin began coughing after he left Charles’s office. Bella looked at him with concern.

In Bella’s impression, Edwin was very active and healthy. She didn't expect him to be so weak. At the same time, Edwin was also looking at her. When their sights met, Edwin gave her a nodded and hurried to leave.

The car that brought him here was already waiting in front of the building. Quentin opened the door for Edwin to get in. He kept on coughing while the wrinkles on his face seemed to multiply with every minute that passed.

“Boss, you should have let Edwin come. Your health is not good.”

“The King of the Sea is not an ordinary human being. It is not so easy to cheat him. I must do this by myself.”

The voice of the real Edwin came out with unbearable exhaustion and weakness. Quentin wanted to say something, but the real Edwin was so tired, he fell asleep on his seat.

His body, organs, and cells had aged tremendously. Although the drug could maintain an hour of normal appearance, due to the strong side effect, whoever used it would age seven or eight years in the space of a few hours.

“Bella really looks like her mother,” he whispered in his sleep. A smile was hanging around his pale lips.

After Edwin’s departure, Charles went to find Bella.

“Did you finish your work?”

“Not yet.”

“How much time do you need?”

“About an hour.”

Charles then looked at Shirley. “Can you let her go?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Let’s go now,” he said.

Bella certainly didn’t challenge his authority in public. Moreover, Charles did actually take care of her, he did not directly ask her to go back with him, but first asked her supervisor. The supervisor agreed and then he asked her opinion.

“Give me a second,” she said.

Bella copied the file of the project she was working to a USB. “Is there something wrong?”

“Well, I have some important things to tell you,” Charles said.

“I’m ready,” said Bella and shut her computer.

Once they were back to the mansion, Charles dragged Bella to Elsa’s apartment and asked her to perform a check-up. He had to make sure whether her hippocampus really was missing.

“What’s wrong with me?” asked Bella as Elsa strapped her on a chair in the underground laboratory. She looked at Charles's serious face and her heart was inexplicably nervous.

“Nothing wrong, you just need to do a whole-body checkup. You were injected before, now we need to check again to see if your body is good or not.”

Bella gazed around her. Bella didn’t know the equipment and machine used for testing the brain. Fortunately, everything here seemed high-tech. After the test was over Elsa gave a slight gesture to Charles that Bella’s hippocampus was indeed missing.

Charles approached Elsa and put his hand on her shoulder.

“Let me know the blood test results when they come out.”

Bella must have heard the last sentence. When they were back to the mansion, she asked what it was all about.

“Do you remember what Len said in the past?”

“What?” Bella looked up at him.

“Len is not your biological father.”

“How do you know such a thing?”

“This morning, Edwin came to the company to meet me and tell me that you’re his sister. He gave me a sample of his blood and asked me to compare it to yours. When Elsa does the test we will know whether you’re his real sister or not.”

Bella could not believe her ears.

“How could Edwin be my brother? I don't remember him at all. Katherine said that she and Edwin were friends from a young age. Then we should have played together when we were young. But I don’t have such memories.”

“Some people’s memory doesn’t develop until they’re four or five.”

These last words confused Bella.

Indeed, her memory began at six. She could remember that her father and mother were always quarreling. Then one day after Bella came home from kindergarten, her dad kicked her and her mother out of the house.

Actually, she also wanted to know whether she was Len's biological daughter or not. On several occasions, she thought about going to the police station to find her files but decided against it. It would be better to hear the truth from her mother when she woke up. Only if Bess refused to reveal the truth would Bella start searching for the truth herself.

She never expected that Edwin would come looking for her. She felt a little excited and somehow strange. She liked Edwin but not in a sexual way. It was more of a brother and sister kind of thing.

She turned on the laptop and prepared to continue working on her current project when someone knocked on the door.

“Who is it?” she asked.

“It’s me, Roy. May I come in?”

“Sure,” replied Bella.

He had a parcel in his hands.

“This is for you,” he said.

She thanked Roy and opened it to see what was inside. A brand new pink laptop!

“This is a one-of-its-kind laptop that the Lord designed for you. He doesn’t want you to do company work with another person’s laptop. There may be a breach of confidentiality.”

It was hard for Bella to refute such an argument. She thanked Roy for the gift and continued her job, this time on the brand new laptop.
