Chapter 221 Edwin Meets His Family

The next morning at the president’s office of the Williams Tower, Ziv was giving Charles his daily report.

“Five sea inhabitants, five hundred white sharks, and seven hundred dolphins were murdered in the early hours today.”

“You need to find out who is behind these criminal acts,” said Charles with a stern look in his face.

“Yes, My Lord. One more thing. Edwin Beck will visit us today. Do you want to meet him?”

“I was expecting him but not too soon,” muttered Charles.

“The reception informed me that he is on the way here.”

“All right,” he said after giving it some thought. “Bring him up here when he shows up.”

Edwin’s arrival at the Williams Tower became the event of the day thanks to the statement he issued yesterday. Female employees whispered to each other about how handsome he was. One was bold enough to declare that he was much more handsome than Charles Williams.

Bella raised her head upon hearing those comments. She got out of her office and looked down from the balcony. Edwin was walking across the lobby dressed in a black suit. He seemed aloof and distant in his manners. Was he really like this or was it merely an act?

His eyes moved upward and met hers. Then suddenly his indifferent gaze turned into something warmer and his lips turned into a discreet smile. They kept on staring at each other until he vanished into the elevator.

A large number of people must have noticed that Edwin was staring at Bella. The same people turned their attention at her once he was gone as if she had a third eye or angel wings on her back. Not being able to stand to be the object of so much scrutiny, she hurried back to her office and slammed the door behind.

When the elevator door opened, Edwin found Charles’s secretary waiting for him. She was tall, blonde, perfectly dressed, and acted in a very professional manner. After greeting Edwin, she showed him the way to Charles’s office and opened the door to let him in.

“Please, come in,” said Charles. He was seated behind his desk and smiling.

Edwin entered the office and the secretary closed the door behind. Now it was just the two of them.

“My Lord, we haven’t met for a long time,” said Edwin and stretched out his right hand.

“Please sit down,” said Charles after shaking Edwin’s hand and pointed to the chair facing the desk.

“If I recall well, we met recently,” said Charles.

“To me, it seems such a long time,” said Edwin.

Charles did not know if Edwin was joking or serious so he shrugged his shoulders.

“How do you drink your coffee?” he asked.

“I’ll skip the coffee, thank you.”

“All right,” said Charles. “Let’s begin then.”

“Did you read my public statement yesterday?”

“Was it yesterday or was it a long time ago?”

Edwin seemed puzzled and Charles seemed pleased to see him off balance.

“Sorry,” he said. “I don’t want to be sarcastic, just funny. As to your question, the answer is yes. I did read your statement.”

“Then let me go straight to the point. Bella is my sister.”

“So?” Charles raised his eyebrows.

“I want to meet her.”

“Mr. Beck, why did you come to see me instead of going straight to your sister?”

“Bella has lost her memory because someone removed her hippocampus after the accident. She has no memory of the Beck family.”

“You mean she has no memory of what happened to her before the age of five.”

“Correct.”

“Now it makes sense,” said Charles to himself and took a sip of coffee from his cup.

“What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.

“Can you persuade Bella to take a DNA test? All I want is her to know about her real family.”

Charles didn’t like this. If Bella started taking DNA tests, the secret of her blood would eventually come out.

Edwin suddenly coughed twice, and immediately took out a small bottle from his bag and poured two pills into the bottle cap.

“May I have a glass of water?” he asked. “It’s time for my medicine,” he added in an apologetic tone.

“Right away,” said Charles. He pressed a button on his desk and gave Edwin’s request to his secretary who showed up in a few seconds with a glass in her hand.

“Thanks a lot,” said Edwin. He put the pills in his mouth and drank some of the water.

“I have a serious condition,” he said.

“You don’t need to explain anything,” said Charles.

“You are so full of understanding, that’s why I came to you. As Bella’s husband, I know what she means to you. Even if you don’t love her, you will never let her get hurt.”

“You’re right,” said Charles. “With me, you can always shoot it straight.”

“After the accident that killed my family, I was raised by a kind woman. Later I met Nick who took me to the mermaid world and the Underwater Palace. You know what goes on down there.”

Charles leaned back against the chair, and his eyes revealed a dangerous light. “What exactly do you want?”

Edwin spread his hand and pulled up his sleeves to reveal his slender pale arms. With the other hand, he took a syringe out of his pocket, which he stuck into his vein. Charles watched with amazement the thick dark red fluid slowly fill the syringe. Edwin removed it when it was full and put it in front of Charles.

“What do you want me to do with this?”

“You can check whether it matches Bella’s blood or not.”

Edwin put a tissue over the tiny puncture wound and held it there. He got up from the desk and was about to leave.

“There is one more thing you need to know,” said Edwin. “I am the person who changed her blood. Nobody in the world except me knows how to do this.”

With these words, he walked out of the office.
