Chapter 210 A False Confession of Love
The rain was falling very hard on their heads and the lightning lit up the dim sky. The sound of thunder coming from above was louder than a thousand horses galloping. Yet, neither one attempted to move.
Bella looked at Charles. She curled her lips and made a weak smile. “You can have my heart in exchange for your heart.”
“I’ve already offered you so much but you don’t seem to appreciate it,” he said.
With these words, he grabbed her from the wrists and brought her closer. While she struggled to free herself, Charles leaning over and planted a kiss on her cold lips. Her lips were sealed and she could not say a word any longer.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m taking what is rightfully mine!”
She tried to push him away but it seemed that it was impossible to do so. Using his brutal strength, he held her so close it was as if they were stuck together permanently. The rain pouring down upon them became heavier and his kisses became more passionate.
She closed her eyes and felt the raindrops landing on her forehead while Charles kept on sucking on her lips. She let him stick his tongue deep inside her throat and wiggle it around while the rain ran down her cheeks and into her open mouth.
Charles had no idea how to show Bella his love for her. This was his way of showing that she belonged to him. His only way to confront her doubts was to act like a cave dweller. He believed that if he acted in such a manner, it would allow her to display her feelings for him.
“You got to believe me. My heart belongs to you. Even if things sometimes seems needlessly complicated, you will understand everything in the future. That’s a promise.”
Before Bella had the chance to say something, he raised her with his strong arms and he carried her across the street. Curious eyes gazed at them from behind the shop windows and wondered about the personal drama at play.
With Bella’s head resting against his bulging chest muscles and her empty gaze staring at him blankly, he carried her all the way to the limo. She liked being treated this way but didn’t know whether she could trust him. Every time he took her to heaven, he would soon toss her in the fires of hell. She dared not love him because she always feared what would happen next.
They didn’t talk to each other in the car. Charles put some mellow jazz on the CD player and Bella dozed off very soon. When she woke up twenty minutes later, there was no trace of rainwater on her clothes. Charles too was in a similar condition. Moreover, he had rolled up his sleeves and now displayed his perfect biceps in the most casual manner.
“I didn’t expect you to wake up so quickly,” he said and looked back at her. “What’s with the silly expression? Do you know how stupid you look right now?”
“I think I’m hallucinating,” she muttered.
“You must be wondering how you got dry. Do you want to know why? I turned on the hot air.”
Bella could not help wonder how could this be possible. Was Charles telling the truth or was he hiding something from her?
Upon arriving at the mansion, Bella feared that Charles would coerce her in spending the night together. They walked through the lobby and up the stairs without exchanging any words. Despite her initial fears, Charles made no other attempt to possess her in a violent manner. He seemed to have calmed down. This gave her the courage to make a request.
“I would like to go out tomorrow. To meet one of my clients.”
“Is it Nick Williams?”
Bella bit her lips nervously. There was no point in denying it now.
“How did you know?”
“Brandon told me,” replied Charles.
“What’s up with you and Brandon? Why does he tell you everything?”
“I told him that he would never see you again if he didn’t do whatever I asked.”
“Can I go out then?”
“Of course, you can. Did I tell you that I want to show my love to you? What better way to do that than showing my trust to the one I love?”
Bella’s heart began beating faster. She rushed back into her room and slammed the door behind. She leaned against it and waited to calm down. Her face was burning and her skin was red. If Charles had decided to force himself into her bedroom, she would have welcomed him with her legs wide open.
She wanted to slap herself for losing control so easily. Why could the two-faced bastard always sway her so easily with his sweet words? If he was so honest, he would have gotten rid of Katherine a long time ago.
The sudden thought of Katherine made her soul jump. Now it was time to get real and stop dreaming. She put her laptop in its case and opened the wardrobe to find her nightgown. It was time to go to bed.
Meanwhile, Charles was outside the door and spying on her with his sixth sense. If it were not for Ziv, who came over to interrupt him, he would have probably stayed there all night.
“What is it?” asked Charles in a mildly irritated manner.
“My Lord. Miss Katherine is waiting for you.”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” said Charles and rushed to find Katherine. For the last couple of hours, she had been waiting outside the study. She was kneeling with her back against the wall, ignoring Roy’s constant pleas to return to her room. Now that she heard Charles was approaching, she jumped to her feet and rushed to the other end of the corridor.
“Honey! You’re finally back!”
She fell in his arms and let her dead weight collapse all over him. Charles had no other choice but to take her in his arms.
“I’ve been waiting for you for such a long time. My legs are so tired.”
“Maybe we can ask Elsa to take a look. Would you like that?”
She gave a silent nod and put her hands around his neck.
“All right. I’ll take you into the study and lay you on the sofa.”
A sound of glass breaking came from the top of the stairs. Charles realized his mistake before he had turned his head. Bella was standing at the top and gazing down at him with a mixture of anger, self-hatred, and disappointment.
Charles realized that she must have come out of her room to fetch herself a glass of water. Now he was in deep shit. How was he going to explain how he ended up with Katherine in his arms?
