Chapter 209 Can You Feel My Love?

Bella realized that it was meaningless to explain, so she stopped. There was nothing to do to change her destiny. She would have to accept whatever was bound to happen.

This unexpected silence must have come as a surprise to Charles. He shot a glance at her on the back seat.

For some reason, he didn’t look angry.

“Why did you stop?”

“Aren’t you angry with me for slapping Katherine?”

“Would you believe me if I told you that I’m not angry?”

Those last words rendered Bella speechless. However, there were no guarantees he was telling the truth. The last time she had made Katherine leave the mansion he was furious. Why was he now acting so cool about what she had done?

Was this some sort of act from Charles? He had behaved this way many times in the past. He would pretend that he was full of kindness and the next moment he would treat her with extreme cruelty.

Bella looked outside the window and tried to prepare herself mentally for the torture she was going to suffer. It came as a surprise when the car drove into the parking lot of a large mall and Charles opened the door for her.

She had brought Brandon to this place! For what reason did Charles bring her here?

“To make you happy,” explained Charles. He must have read her mind.

Bella was taken aback by his words. She took his hand into hers and looked into his eyes. He seemed to be honest about his intentions. Was he telling the truth when he told her that he had fallen in love with her?

“Let’s hurry up or else we won’t find anything to eat.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about the food court,” he said.

Bella followed Charles all the way to the fountain she had sat the other time with Brandon, but she was still very puzzled. Why did he want to bring her here?

He made her wait at the same fountain she sat with Brandon while he rushed to buy food. He ordered two pairs of double cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and Cokes. The moment he had the meal box in his hands he rushed to Bella. There was too much of a crowd and he had to push his way through. At times, he had to restrain his anger or else he would have gotten into a fight.

When he finally reached Bella, he put the box beside her.

“Here you are,” he said. “Knock yourself out.”

She checked the contents of the box then looked up at him.

“Is this some kind of joke?” she asked.

“What do you mean?” he asked. “The last time you came here you had a perfect time.”

“The last time I came here I was with a kid, not an adult man.”

She didn’t like the game he was playing. If he was in such a romantic mood he would have taken her for a candlelit dinner. Why did he bring her here?”

“Are you going to eat or not?” he asked. He was already munching on his double cheeseburger.

She looked up at him with an expression full of disdain.

“Do you know what you are doing now? Why did you bring me here? What relationship do we have? Are we a couple? No, we are just an employer and employee. It is not a place we should come together.”

Charles’s face suddenly changed color. His light blue eyes turned into dark blue. It seemed that there was a violent storm forming behind his eyes. The sound of thunder came from above. It was so loud it almost made Bella’s heart stop. A thick blanket of dark clouds covered the sky and wind started to blow.

This was the fury of the Sea King. The happy families that were everywhere were now searching for cover before the rain would start pouring down.

Tears well up in Bella’s eyes.

“Charles, what do you want? You told me in person that you do not love me. I saw with my eyes how much you love Katherine. You also told to me in person that the child I will give birth to will be calling her ‘mother.’ What do you mean by saying you love me. Are you not satisfied with me not loving you? Is my body not enough for you?”

“I want your heart.”

“Not a chance! I don’t love you anymore.”

The sound of the thunder was getting louder.

“I love you, but you do not believe me.”

“You love me? Then what about Katherine?”

She could not stop her tears. At the same time, the rain began pouring over the two of them.

Charles could not give Bella a proper answer to Katherine. She had saved his life and he had promised to marry her. Until now, he had not realized that the one he was in love with was Bella and not Katherine.

Bella was quite disobedient and did not have a good temper, but he loved her. He would get heartache whenever he saw cry and his heart would jump in happiness every time he saw her laugh.

What he felt for Katherine was responsibility and not love. In the past, he had never understood the proper meaning of that word. Now he knew that if you loved someone your heart belonged to that person.

However, it was too late for Charles. Bella did not believe him any longer.

“What should I do to prove my love for her?”

The rain was pouring heavily upon the two of them but neither attempted to move to a dry place.

“That’s an easy one,” said Bella. “How about you send Katherine to jail? I will believe you love me if you do that.”

“I can’t do such a thing,” he said. “There is a much larger game at risk.”

Bella lowered her head in despair. Katherine had admitted to her in person that she had kidnapped her. It seemed that Charles was still on her side.

Did he love Katherine?

Of course, he did.
