Chapter 205 A Different Treatmen
Charles gave a last glance at the closed door and put the phone away. Judging by the expression on Ziv’s face Charles could tell it was something important. Charles led him to the study and asked Roy to wait outside.
“Talk,” he said to Ziv.
“My Lord, I have just received news saying that carrier of the mermaid gene is another person and now the people from Devenport are after this new target.”
“Does this mean that Bella is off the hook?” asked Charles.
“As it seems.”
This only meant that the tests on Bella’s blood came out negative.
“Do you know who the new target is?”
“It’s Miss Spenser,” my Lord.
“You got to be kidding me. Is Katherine the new target? I wonder who came up with this piece of information. It seems that Edwin Beck cares a lot about Bella.”
“Do you mean, My Lord, that the information is false?”
“I have checked Katherine’s blood type and I know she doesn’t have mermaid DNA. Whoever leaked this information did it to help Bella.”
“But you said before that Edwin Beck is on the Second Master’s side. If he knows that the Lady is the one with the mermaid gene, why doesn’t he tell the Second Master?”
“Bella is more important to Edwin than Nick. By the way, have you looked into Edwin Beck?” asked Charles.
“His background doesn’t seem suspicious. We will, however, continue the investigation, and let you know the results.”
“I also want to meet Carl. Can you bring him here?”
“You mean Dora’s boyfriend? What would he know?”
“More than what you can imagine. Did you know he was once the commander of Nick’s Special Suicide Task Force?”
Ziv widened his eyes out of surprise. “Weren’t they all executed?”
“They needn’t pay such a grave price for Nick’s mistakes. Instead of executing them I expelled them from the Sea Kingdom.”
“You are such a merciful Lord, My Lord.”
“Go fetch Carl and bring him here.”
When Ziv left the study, he came face to face with Bella. She had just finished the job for Nick and wanted to ask Charles to give her phone back. Seeing that Ziv was available, she decided it would be easier to ask him to do this favor for her.
“I was wondering what happened to my cell phone. If I remember correctly, Charles gave it to you after he took it away from me.”
Ziv found himself in a dilemma. He didn’t want to do anything that would displease the Lord.
“Is there anything wrong with the new phone?” he asked.
“I’m accustomed to my old phone and I find it hard to get used to a new device. I would prefer to get back my old one.”
From inside the study, Charles was listening carefully to the conversation between Bella and Ziv. With each word that came out of Bella’s mouth his face would get darker. How dare Ziv talk with Bella for so long without his permission!
Yet he could sense Ziv’s reluctance. He seemed to be in a difficult position because of Bella. In the end, he told her that if she wanted her old phone back she would have to talk with Charles who was right behind the door waiting for her.
Bella let Ziv go to his job and gestured to Roy. All the time Roy had been staring at them and trying to guess what would happen to Ziv if he kept on talking to Bella.
Bella seemed reluctant to show up like this. She wasn’t sure whether she ought to disturb Charles.
“Can you please tell the Lord I’m here and that I’m asking for permission to see him?”
“The Lord had stated that you can visit him anytime,” said Roy.
“I insist that you ask for his permission,” said Bella.
Having no other option, Roy opened the door and entered the study. Charles was at his desk reading a document. He must have overheard the entire conversation. Before Roy had the chance to open his mouth, Charles had already invited Bella in the room.
Bella let a sigh escape her chest. Things seemed good for the moment.
“What do you need?” he asked with a gentle tone.
“Can I get back my cell phone?”
“You mean the one that you previously left behind?”
“No. I’m talking about my old cell phone.”
Charles blurted out.
“With whom do you want to chat?”
“Talk,” he said to Ziv.
