Chapter 203 Who Is The Cruelest?

Charles sat there with his legs crossed and looked at Lynn thoughtfully. It was now time to decide her fate.

“Send her to Africa, and leak the information out,” he concluded.

“Lord, do you want to find out whether Miss Spencer is also involved?”

The guard immediately regretted asking such a question. He lowered his head and prayed the Lord’s wrath would not fall upon him.

“Glad that you have thought. Remember, do not tell the Lady about this.”

“It seems that you just had some kind of misunderstanding.”

Charles stopped and rubbed his temple. The guard was right and he had to fix it somehow.

Meanwhile, Katherine-who was still standing by the window-saw Bella running across the yard. A few minutes later Charles showed up walking in his usual elegant manner that displayed his noble character. She wanted to rush after him but it suddenly occurred to her to wait and see what was going on between the two of them.

The sound of a car engine came to her ears. The main gate was open and Charles was standing there talking to someone. She heard him say something about a kidnapper and then remembered that Lynn Sanders had been captured.

What a waste of five million dollars!

Katherine didn’t mind Charles finding out who was behind the kidnapping attempt. She was certain that he wouldn’t buy a word of what Lynn said. Even if he did, he wouldn’t do anything to endanger Katherine’s position.

There was always a chance that he would believe it was a plot devised by Bella and Lynn in order to frame Katherine, so maybe things would work out the way she wanted.

This may have been Katherine’s first kidnapping but she wasn’t expecting it to fall apart so quickly. Now she would have to wait to see what would come up next.

When the car drove away, she thought Charles was in it but a few moments later, he was standing under her window with Ziv by his side. His hands were in his pockets and he was staring up at Katherine’s window.

“Lord, Miss Spencer did not follow the car as we expected,” said Ziv.

“We got to keep an eye on her see what she does next. Now we got to investigate Nathan Spencer.”

“Lord, do you mean that Earl Spencer has something to do with the Devenport Research Institute?”

“Very few people have the resources to build a large-scale laboratory in such a short time and Nathan Spencer is one of them. Since Lynn Sander spoke of Katherine, he is also a suspect.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

“By the way, we also need to look into Bella’s true identity.”

He knew that Bella was waiting for her mother to wake up so she could find out her true identity. But Charles could not wait that long, he had to find out earlier. Deep inside he was hoping that if he did this for Bella she would forgive him for all the bad things he had done to her.

After leaving the hospital Edwin did not go back to his residence. He went directly to see the real Edwin. He drove through the forest until he reached the castle’s gate. A young servant came out to unlock the gate.

“Where is your master?” asked Edwin.

“In the yard,” replied the servant. “Please come with me.”

Edwin followed the servant to the main yard where he saw a thin sulky man lying on an inclining chair.

“Brother, what happened to you? I only left for a few days!” The old man’s cheeks were so sunken they made him look more like a corpse rather than a human being.

“I have lost some weight,” said the man in a weak voice. Upon hearing that, Edwin could not help but burst into tears.

“I was expecting you,” said the man. “The Devenport Research Institute already has Bella’s blood. Pretty soon they will announce the discovery of the mermaid gene.”

“Everything is going according to the plan,” said Edwin and rubbed his hands.

“Indeed,” said the old man.

“I was wondering if we should speak to Bella.”

The man gave a mysterious smile.

“I think it’s time to tell her. But I think the Edwin that she needs to be introduced to is not me but you.”

“Why?” Edwin did not get his meaning.

“From now on, you are the authentic Edwin Beck, the natural brother of Bella.”

“No way,” said Edwin. “I do not want to be her relative, I want to marry her. How can I become her brother? She has only one brother and that’s you.”

The man shook his head in disapproval. “I will not live long. Lovers may break up, and friends may finally part. Only the ties of kinship remain eternal. In my mind, you are the only one that will never hurt Bella. You will protect her all the time, right? I have no lover and no friends. I only have Bella in my life. She is the only reason I live in this world. I hope you can protect her from me. I do not know how long romantic love can last, but I know that the family bond will last forever. Steve, please take care of Bella as her brother for a lifetime.”

“I love Bella. I have loved her since I was a child. As long as we find the hippocampal area that has been removed from Bella, we can restore her memory. When that happens, she will definitely agree to marry me. You can’t make me live as her brother, you can’t tear us apart.”

“You are not the only man in her life. There is another one in her missing memory.”

Edwin’s jaw dropped to the ground. He did not believe such a thing.

“How do you know such a thing?”

“Remember that time I went to the icy polar region with her and she went missing for a day and a night? After I found her she told me about a boy that promised to marry her when they grow up.”
