Chapter 185 The Devotion of Ziv

Following Charles’s orders, Ziv went to check the surveillance footage while Charles remained seated and stared at Bella.

“How is she?” he asked the doctor.

“Miss Bella seems to be okay. Apart from some minor blood loss.”

Charles suddenly remembered the vial full of blood he had seen in the hand of the woman and frowned. Whoever was behind this was after Bella’s blood.

Suddenly the new leader of the guard rushed in the room in a state of panic and said, “My Lord. I am here to report a death in the surgery room.”

He told Charles how a nurse had entered the room only to stumble upon the dead body of a doctor.

Charles sent away both the head of security and the doctor before calling for Ziv.

“We have double trouble over here,” stated Charles in a rather cool manner.

“What’s the matter, My Lord?”

“We’ve got a dead body in one of the surgery rooms and you need to take care of it before the police show up.”

“Yes, My Lord.”

“One more thing. The deceased was on a secret mission to obtain a blood sample of Bella that she was able to extract before I showed up. The problem is that I can’t find the vial. There is a chance one of her accomplices in the hospital may have taken it. We need to find who that person is and get the vial back.”

What they didn’t know at that time was that the police had already been informed of the death. When they showed up at the hospital, Ziv told them it was a failed attempt to kidnap Bella for ransom money that had ended with one of the kidnappers shooting the other.

Due to the status of the Williams family, the police agreed to handle the case with utmost discretion. The body was transported to the morgue and no mention was made of the attempt to extract Bella’s blood.

Several hours had passed and Bella had not regained her senses yet. Charles was sitting above her waiting for that moment to come.

“Can you make her wake up?” he asked the doctor.

“The effects of the drug have not subsided yet. We will have to wait,” said the doctor.

Charles was about to start threatening the doctor that he was not going to see a dime unless Bella woke up right away when Ziv came into the room. He had a very important announcement to make.

“I checked all the CCTV footage. The mysterious woman talking to Bella was none other than Lynn Sanders.”

Charles’s eyes gleamed with sadistic intent. His course of action was adamant.

“Find her and bring her to the Mansion.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

Charles gazed at Bella and then towards the doctor.

“I can’t wait until she wakes up. I want to get her out of here.”

“Let me bring a wheelchair,” said the doctor.

Charles lifted Bella and put her on the wheelchair. He didn’t want anyone recognizing her so he covered her with a sheet.

On the way back to the villa, Charles kept his eyes fixed on Bella, hoping that she would come to her senses any second. Due to his previous negligence, he used to believe that Katherine was Nick’s target. Now he started pondering on the possibility that someone else was after Bella’s blood. He would really like to know who was really in charge of Davenport Lab. This could shed some light on these mysterious events.

“My Lord, do we need to increase the security personnel responsible for guarding the Lady?” asked Ziv. “It’s not safe for her to live at the Mansion.”

“She doesn’t need more guards. I will look after her.” Charles knew very well that Bella would suffocate if there were too many guards looking after her.

At the same time, Katherine was happily having dinner at the Williams Mansion. She was happy because her father had just informed her that although it had cost a life, they had obtained a sample of Bella’s blood. Once he had verified her mermaid genes, he would bring her to his lab to conduct experiments upon her.

Katherine cut through her tenderloin steak and could not help laughing. Bella would be sliced open just like a lab rat! She couldn't wait to see Bella’s pretty body floating in formaldehyde.

A voice in the dining hall informed her that the Lord had returned to the Mansion.

Roy attempted to withdraw in a tactful manner and go outside, but Katherine was not going to allow that. She pushed him aside and tried to outrun him. She wanted to be the first to greet Charles and fall into his arms. Despite her tall stiletto heels, she was running as fast as she could.

She saw a pair of feet and her heart jumped up in joy. With quick steps, she went down the stairs. She held herself from the rail and was jumping two steps at a time.

At the bottom of the stairs, the smile vanished from her face once she saw who was in Charles’s arms. Katherine could not believe her eyes. She has been waiting for him and he was with Bella all the time.

How could he hold her like that and treat her in such an overprotective manner?

“Darling!” cried out Katherine and rushed to him. She pretended to be genuinely worried about Bella’s condition.

“What happened to her?”

Charles knew that all this was just an act but he didn’t want at this point to start an argument with Katherine.

“She fainted in the car. Not a big deal,” said Charles. “Can someone ask Elsa to come here right away?”

“Yes, My Lord!” said Roy and quickly rushed out of the building.

Katherine kept on eyeing Bella with extreme tenderness while she kept telling herself that she could not show any trace of anger.

If she was to succeed, she needed to cultivate perfect acting skills.
