Chapter 184 Saving Bella

After the new leader left, Charles tried to concentrate on sensing Bella’s location. He didn’t have much faith in the security personnel, therefore, he would have to rely on his own abilities to find Bella.

She was supposed to be somewhere inside the hospital. Because of the short distance, he was able to sense her heartbeat. He could tell that she was lying somewhere unconscious and a man with a surgical mask was standing right above her, ready to extract her blood.

The bright lights shining upon her face meant that she was in one of the surgery rooms. He immediately teleported himself there and began searching the rooms one by one. Behind the third door, he found Bella exactly as he had visualized her.

The woman doctor standing above her had a scalpel in her hand.

“Get away from her,” shouted Charles and the woman immediately withdrew.

The woman seemed surprised by his sudden appearance. “How did you pass through the locked door? You must be a merman!”

She suddenly laughed in a mocking tone before she continued. “Whoever thought that Lord Charles Williams would turn out to be a merman? If I capture you I will become rich and famous.”

She moved forward with the hand holding the scalpel stretched out. If Charles dared to kill the doctor, he would immediately be struck by lightning as a punishment. He had to find another way to deal with the enemy.

At that very moment, he heard a clicking sound from behind and moved aside just in time before a gunshot was fired. It struck the doctor on the chest leaving a red hole on the white robe. A low moan escaped the doctor’s mouth as she collapsed dead to the floor.

From behind the curtains emerged Beck with a smoking gun in his hand.

“Who are you working for?” asked Charles.

“Maybe a ‘thank you’ would be more appropriate for saving your lives. It seems that the rumors about the Ruler of the Sea Kingdom being a bastard may be true.”

“Did Nick send you?”

“That’s not important.”

Beck kneeled over the body of the doctor and took off her mask to make sure she was dead. As soon as he turned around, he saw that Charles had already picked up Bella.

“What are we going to do with her?” asked Beck pointing to the dead body.

“You got to figure that out by yourself,” said Charles and walked out of the room.

Once Charles was gone, Beck put on the mask and searched in the pockets of the dead woman for the blood sample. He threw it in the bin knowing that those guys from Devenport would find it there when they came looking. If they didn’t get their sample, they would never leave Bella alone.

As for the corpse? He would leave it there. This was Charles’s problem not his own. If the hospital came under investigation by the police then maybe Bella’s mother could be taken to a better place, far away from the evil clutch of Charles Williams.

Ziv showed up at the hospital along with Abraham. They found Charles in the emergency room where he had taken Bella. Charles himself wasn’t in very good shape due to the lack of blood.

When Abraham saw Bella lying on the bed he fell onto his knees and started to cry.

“What happened to the Lady?”

“Stop crying! She’s isn’t dead,” said Charles and immediately kicked the annoying chauffeur out of the room.

“I need you to find the head of security and give him the following orders,” said Charles to Ziv.

“Yes, my Lord.”

“I need a list of all the visitors to the hospital today and all the people who talked with Bella before she was abducted. I want you to check all CCTV footage to identify any suspicious activity and I want more cameras installed so there will be no blind spots. I also want background checks for every person working within the premises. Whoever has a problematic past or heavy debts should be fired.”

“Why should those people with heavy debt be fired?”

Those words came out of the mouth of a doctor who was standing above Bella. The doctor was a man in his fifties with a round head and spectacles with a thin rim. His eyes and his wrinkled forehead betrayed his anxiety.

“If someone is in heavy debt it will be easier for him to be bribed,” explained Charles.

“My Lord, please don’t fire me, I need to make money for my family. I still haven’t paid off my mortgage. If I lose my job, we’re going to be homeless.”

“How many years have you worked in the hospital?”

“Fifteen years. I’ve always been a loyal and good doctor.”

“What if I give you an early retirement plan? You won’t need to work any longer but you will receive upfront a sum equal to your salary for the next ten years.”

“If the Lord is willing to pay such good money, how can I ever be bribed? I hope I can keep on working here until I retire.”

“What is your name?”

“My name is George Stoker…”

After a brief moment of hesitation, the doctor continued his words.

“I would like to talk to you about something strange I saw earlier this day.”

“Go ahead,” said Charles.

“I saw Miss Brook having a quarrel with her sister,” said the doctor.

“I didn’t know Bella had a sister. When did that happen?”

“At about seven o’ clock, outside the room of Miss Brook’s mother. You can see it by yourself in the monitors.”

“If what you’re saying is true, you can also count on a generous reward.”
