Chapter 183 Rescue Operation
As soon as Ziv and Abraham were out of the way, Charles closed his eyes and tried to sense Bella’s location. After using a sufficient amount of his blood to supply the Tree of Life, Charles needed Bella more than ever. Without her blood, he was unable to establish a clear connection.
All he could get were some blurry images that were not much help. The harder he tried to concentrate, the blurrier the image would become.
Things only got worse when Katherine showed up outside the room. He could hear her talking to Roy.
“What are you doing here?” she asked. “Has Charles returned?”
Roy stood in front of the door to prevent her from entering. For Katherine this was as good as any reply.
“Please Miss Spencer,” he said.
“He’s here, isn’t he?”
As no one could enter the study without permission, Roy could not admit that the Lord himself was inside. Charles may have wanted Katherine to believe that he was still away.
“There is no one inside,” said Roy.
“What are you doing standing here?”
“I must keep an eye on the study and prevent anyone from entering.”
Katherine did not believe his words. She pushed him away and wanted to open the door while Roy tried to hold on to the doorknob.
How dare you touch me?” she shouted. “Who do you think you are?”
“I’m sorry. I was just following orders.”
“You call that following orders? Harassing the Lady of the house? Now back off!”
Katherine opened the door and stormed into the room. She looked around in a puzzled manner upon realizing that there was nobody there.
Roy sighed with relief. The Lord must have used his teleportation skill to get out of the room.
Katherine began searching all over the place; she went as far as to look into the drawers. She scattered the contents all over the floor and cried out his name. Roy felt sorry for this stupid woman. Was it possible for Charles to hide in a desk drawer?
“Where is he?” she asked Roy in an angry manner.
“Our Lord has not returned yet from his trip,” said Roy.
“That’s impossible,” screamed Katherine. “If he’s away why did you try to stop me? I think he’s avoiding me because of the stupid child.”
“What child?”
“The child Bella brought back with her. I know it’s Charles’s. That’s why he agreed to marry Bella. She threatened him with the child.”
Roy could not believe his ears. He would like to crack open her skull to see what was inside. Katherine’s stupidity was beyond belief.
“If you have noticed, the boy is nine years old but the Lady is twenty. I find it hard to believe that she got pregnant at the age of eleven,” said the butler.
“I can’t be fooled that easily!” said Katherine. “Plenty of girls in Africa get pregnant at the age of ten. There was also a girl in United States that gave birth at the age of eleven.”
“I can’t imagine our Lord leaving a twelve year old girl pregnant,” uttered Roy. He was utterly dumbfounded by what Katherine believed.
“Nowadays children grow up fast and they look more like adults. If Bella did not admit she was twelve at that time, who would have guessed her actual age?”
“Miss Spencer, would you please leave here? If the Lord finds the room in a mess he will be furious.”
“The room is all yours,” said Katherine. She straightening her body on her six-inch heels and walked away proudly.
Roy took a deep breath after she left. If Charles ever got married to her, the place would become like a tiger cage. Rather than having to face that on a daily basis, he would prefer to return to the Sea Kingdom and guard the Tree of Life for the rest of his life.
Meanwhile, Charles had teleported himself to the hospital and was trying to find more clues to Bella’s whereabouts. He walked out of the director’s office and stopped a nurse in the corridor.
“Has Bella been here?”
“She came about forty minutes ago. I’m not sure whether she has left yet.”
“I want the head of security to come to my office.”
Pretty soon, Charles had verified his suspicions. Nobody had seen Bella leave the hospital. This meant that she was abducted somewhere on the premises and she was possibly still there.
Charles gave orders that nobody would be allowed to leave the hospital unless he himself gave permission. Any suspicious person would be detained right away.
“Don’t you think it’s a bit far-fetched?” asked the head of security.
“Get going!” shouted Charles.
But the man remained firmly in his position.
“I need us to work out a strategic plan. Not everyone within the premises is guilty and we have to guarantee their rights first.”
“You know what? You’re fired.”
Then Charles asked to see the number two in charge, who after seeing what had happened to his superior, was more than willing to comply. It took some time for the guards to get their orders straight. It seemed that a lot of them were busy with other things.
How much he regretted for not bringing Ziv along. If there ever was one man who could do the job fast and efficiently it was Ziv. He never questioned the Lord before carrying out an order.
That’s why he was the best.
