Chapter 181 A Flat Tire
Charles made a phone call to Bella but she couldn’t talk to him because she was too busy. Feeling a bit bored, he returned to the body of the boy and went with the butler to the beach for a walk.
Walking along the coast, he was lost in his thoughts. After seeing the way Katherine’s had behaved this morning he felt lucky for having married Bella. If she hadn’t saved his life, he would have forever banished Katherine from the Williams Mansion.
Now she was trying to get him to hop into her car. Who knew what kind of plan this evil woman had in mind? If he wanted to find out then he would have to accept her offer.
“Come on in,” she said. “I’ll drive you back.”
“How about Roy?”
“As you can see there is no back seat in my car. He will have to walk back by himself. It’s not too far.”
The boy shot a glance at Roy before getting into the car. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine,” said the faithful butler.
The boy opened the door and got into the expensive two-seated convertible. He closed the door and waved his hand to Roy.
Katherine stepped on the gas pedal and the vehicle shot forward leaving Roy standing alone at the edge of the road. As Roy watched the convertible drive away, he shook his head. He was not afraid that Katherine would hurt the Lord. What worried him most was that the Lord was going to find out more about Katherine’s ugly behavior.
Katherine was driving her car in a circle to gain more time. To impress the kid she pressed a button and the roof came up.
“Just so we can have some more privacy,” she explained to the boy.
“All right,” said the boy.
“May I ask you a question?”
“Sure. Go ahead.”
“I would like to know the name of your father.”
Charles frowned and looked at her without making a sound.
“Then how about your mother’s name?
He remained alert even though he did not open his mouth. Seeing his reaction Katherine became pushier. Her voice changed to a much ruder tone and her eyes were full of contempt.
“Your father is Charles Williams, right? You are not a relative of Bella, but her son.”
The boy had a sudden impulse to spit her on her face. How stupid of her to think that he was the son of Bella. Now he would have to convince her that she was wrong.
“No, I’m not,” he said.
“Then how come the butler treats you in such a respectful manner? Do you think I’m some kind of idiot? What are you trying to hide from me?”
“Have you considered the possibility that the butler likes me as a friend?” asked the boy. Katherine rolled her eyes in disbelief. In her world, nobody could be friend with a butler.
“Look here, young lad. No matter how hard you try to secure your position, your mom is going to be ditched pretty soon. Which means you’re not going to get a penny of the Williams fortune. However, I am willing to make a deal with you.”
Charles looked at her with amusement. “What kind of deal?”
“If you ask your dad to divorce Bella, I will give you a lot of money. You can buy a nice house when you’re out of here.”
“How much are you talking about?”
“You can decide the sum. Money is of no importance to me.”
“What a gullible child,” said Katherine to herself. “If this bastard asked his father to divorce Bella, Charles would never refuse to do so.”
“Have you ever said anything like this to Bella?”
“I have made several suggestions for our mutual good but she is too stupid to understand.”
At that moment, the car arrived at the front gate of the Williams Mansion. Brandon was about to hop out, but Katherine didn’t allow him to do so. She grabbed him from the arm and pulled him back violently.
“You have not replied yet to what I asked.”
“What if I don’t agree with what you propose?”
Katherine’s face darkened immediately, and her eyes gleamed with murderous intent. “In that case, you and your mother will die miserably.”
Charles raised one of his eyebrows in a sarcastic manner.
“How miserable will that be?”
She paused and giggled. “I assure you, your deaths shall be worse than a stray dog’s. That’s why I want you to think carefully about my suggestion before giving me an answer.”
The boy tightened his lips and got out of the car without saying another word. The car drove into the Mansion while he waited for Roy to arrive.
“Is everything all right, My Lord?”
The boy didn’t say anything to the butler. He just curled his lips and shook his head up and down. Then he followed Roy into the Mansion.
After spending a very busy day at the office, Bella went to find Abraham in the parking lot. She found him standing out of the car and examining one of the tires.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“It seems we’ve got a flat,” he said.
“How did that happen?”
“It must be intentional. I left for a few minutes to go to the washroom and when I returned it was like this.”
“Is there any other kind of damage?”
“Thank God, no. Imagine what I would have to go through if any serious damage happened to the car,” said Abraham.
“You don’t need to worry. I will tell the Lord that it’s not your fault.”
“I appreciate it. May I call a cab or do you want to wait until I change the tire? It won’t take too long.”
“You don’t need to bother about me. I will walk down the street and do some window shopping before I hop into a cab.”
“I apologize again for not being able to drive you home.”
“See you tomorrow,” she said and walked away.
She had walked about fifty meters when she felt the phone in her handbag vibrating. She took it out and stared at the screen. It was a phone call from an unknown caller. With some degree of reluctance, she pressed the reply button.
“Who is this?” asked Bella.
“Lynn Sanders speaking,” announced a pompous voice.
“What do you want?” asked Bella. She had not forgotten that time when Lynn tricked Bella into following behind the hospital where the kidnappers were waiting.
“I am at the hospital. I’ve come to visit your mother.”
Bella’s face became white as a sheet upon hearing those words.
“I won’t do anything to your mom if you come and meet me,” said Lynn. “I want to congratulate you for finding such a rich husband.”
Bella understood very well the reason Lynn had resorted to these methods. She had gone through some very bad times and was eager to lay her fingers on some quick cash.
“I will come to see you but don’t you dare hurt my mother,” said Bella.
Walking along the coast, he was lost in his thoughts. After seeing the way Katherine’s had behaved this morning he felt lucky for having married Bella. If she hadn’t saved his life, he would have forever banished Katherine from the Williams Mansion.
