Chapter 176 Forgive Me
On the way back to the Williams Mansion, Bella held tightly on to the boy’s hand as they walked on the stone pavement under the bright moonlight. Despite the boy’s age, their body language was an expression of a more intimate relationship.
“Do you hate that man?” asked Brandon looking up at Bella.
“Do you mean the owner of the Mansion? I think it would be better if you asked him how much he hates me.”
Charles’s big eyes gleamed like the stars above him. “You are such a nice person. How could someone hate you?”
Brandon’s words had a soothing effect on Bella and made her laugh. The light breeze took her laughter away from her face and spread it all around her until it gradually faded away like the distant light of the stars.
She caressed his soft hair on the top of his head and smiled. “You believe I am nice because I found you on the beach and gave you a home. What if I tell you the same thing happened to me? Someone found me and took me to his home. The only difference is that he believes I am the cause of his troubles.
“If you were such trouble, why doesn’t he get rid of you?” asked the boy.
Charles always believed that someone always ought to put in a good word for himself. He was fortunate that he could learn many things about Bella simply because he occupied another body. Now he could use this advantage to influence her opinion about him.
“He hasn’t done that yet because I am still useful to him,” said Bella. Her voice had a melancholic tone while she uttered these words and the light of the eternal stars gleamed in her sad eyes.
“If he hated you so much he would never have married you. I believe that he loves you more than what you can imagine.”
The man trapped inside the boy was burning with desire while saying these words. Ever since his unexpected transformation, he had fallen deeply in love with Bella.
She let a chuckle escape her mouth. “Who could ever guess that a boy your age could possess the judgment of an adult? I wonder where do your ideas come from?”
All of his enthusiasm vanished in one second. Charles let go of her hand and started running towards the Mansion. The spectacle of the running boy made Bella think how cute he looked.
“Come back here!” she shouted.
“I am not a child.”
“I know that. You’re only a big boy.”
“Believe it or not, I’m a man!”
He paused and turned around to face her. She speeded up her pace and took his hand into her own.
“Yes, you are a man!” Bella didn’t know what to say so she agreed with him to make him feel better.
“What if I leave you one day. Will you miss me?”
Bella tightened her grip, “I will miss you more than anything else.”
“Will you cry when I leave?” He knew she liked to cry in secret, while in public she always maintained a cheerful persona.
“Sure, I will,” said Bella with a nod. “I will cry my soul out.”
It was the first time Bella admitted that she wanted to cry. Too bad it wasn’t for Charles but for a boy she had found on the beach.
“We don’t know each other well. Why would you shed your tears for me?” asked the boy.
Bella took a deep breath before she answered the question. “Because you are the only one I regard as a friend and the only one who I can talk to. Which means that I can’t afford to lose you. If that happens, I will miss you very much. I hope you don’t think I’m too selfish.”
“Why don’t you talk to your husband about your problems?”
Charles suddenly sensed the atmosphere becoming quiet and stiff. His heart sank heavily to the depths. She must have hated him for mentioning her husband.
Bella opened her mouth after a short awkward silence. “Don’t mention him again, okay?”
The boy wanted to ask the reason why, but the expression on her face rendered him speechless. Now Charles could tell how much she hated him.
When they reached the Williams Mansion, they found Elsa and Roy standing before the gate.
“Where have you been, My Lady?” asked Elsa. “We’ve been looking for you.”
“What matters now is that we’re back,” said Bella. She turned to Brandon and gave a gentle pat on his head.
“We need to get the little man to bed. He is way past his sleeping time. Please escort Brandon to my room,” she said to Roy.
“Won’t you be going there with him?” asked the servant in a manner which betrayed his respect for the Lady.
“I need to do something. Will go out and come back later,” she said.
Roy was going to lead Brandon away when all of a sudden, Ziv showed up.
“Let me take care of the child,” he said.
“Thank you,” said Bella and gave a nod.
Only then did Charles realized what Roy meant when he said that she had never thought of herself as the Lady of the house. Bella lacked the confidence to act like in that manner.
He cast a mysterious look towards Bella and saw that she was smiling at him. He put his arms around her and his head tried to reach up to her. She bent over to allow him to give her a kiss on the cheek before he walked away with Ziv.
“I’ll see you later,” she said and waved at him.
Bella kept on looking at them until they disappeared around the corner. When they were out of view, she turned to Elsa and stared at her in a very serious manner.
“It’s time,” said the old woman.
Bella followed her to the blood transfusion room where she sat on the specially designed chair. Elsa handed her the red pill, which boosted blood cell production and could help the body recover from the blood loss.
This did not prevent her from fainting during the extraction process.
“Do you hate that man?” asked Brandon looking up at Bella.
