Chapter 171 High Tension

Nick Williams gazed at the child with gleaming eyes full of psychotic hatred, “If I kill you now I will become the Ruler of the Sea.”

“Is the title so important to you?” answered the child.

Instead of giving a reply, Nick stretched out his palm toward his little opponent, and made a sphere of water materialize in the empty space. It was levitating in the air and ready to burst into countless beads. Taking the challenge, the boy snapped his fingers and a similar sphere appeared in front of him. Both spheres shot forward by some invisible force and struck each other. Being of equal force, the only damage they did was to each other.

“At least, you haven’t forgotten our family rules,” said the child.

“You mean not killing anyone of our kind? What does it matter when we are both on land? Even if I did something like that, nobody would witness it.”

Suddenly Bella’s head popped out of the window above them.

“Are you okay?” she shouted as she looked down at them.

“I’m fine,” shouted the child.

Nick gave her an angry look. “Stop procrastinating and finish your job, unless you want me posting online comments about how sloppy your work is,” he shouted up at her.

Bella ignored the comment. Her main concern this moment was Brandon’s well-being.

“If anything happens, shout and I’ll hear you.”

“All right,” said the child.

“I love you.”

Those were the last things Bella said before going away from the window. Her sappy declaration managed to elicit some sarcastic laughter from Nick.

“How shameful you are,” said Nick when Bella had returned to her job. “You promised Katherine you will always love her.”

“That’s none of your business,” said the child.

“I truly hope the electric dragon will kill you for not keeping your promise. This will make me the Ruler of the Sea Kingdom.”

“Do you think it's possible to become the King of Sea for what you have done in these years?” asked the boy. “Even if I do die one day for breaking my promise, you still cannot become the Ruler of the Sea. My successor was chosen a long time ago and it will never be you. You’d better stop making dreams about things that will never happen.”

These were not the words he wanted to hear. Nick made one step closer to the child. He was gradually losing his temper.

“You exiled me after the death of our father. I have served our realm for over one hundred years and protected this planet for fifty but what did I get at the end? My own brother betrayed me and stole the glory that I deserved. When a torpedo in the last World War injured me, it was you who reaped the benefits of my heroic acts. Just because you were afraid I was going to take your place, you didn’t allow me to see our father on his deathbed. Even more unforgiving is what you did to our mother. She loved father but you took away her gifts and turned her into an ordinary human. For this, I will always hate you. You and I are not brothers any longer. Keep in mind that one day I’m going to kill you!”

He looked down at the boy. At the same time, the sky above his head darkened and a flash of lightning illuminated the child’s face.

“Don’t forget that you'll die if humans ever see you,” said the child with a calm smile on his face.

“I'm not going to die. Not unless I get my revenge.”

Nick raised his left hand and snapped his index finger. Suddenly, a lightning bolt appeared in the sky. Then it started behaving in a strange way. A powerful force seemed to have captured it and was now dragging it down.

“You can’t kill a child,” said the boy and smiled.

“Then I shall wait,” said Nick with determination.

Suddenly Bella came running out of the building. She tried to fill the gap between Nick and the boy by putting her arms around him.

“You didn’t keep your promise! You said that you wouldn't bully him!”

“Whoever said that I was bulling him?”

Behind Bella’s protective embrace, the child was now safe. Her back was slightly curved, and the lines of the body were stretched out in a ready-to-attack position. In order to protect her little-loved one, she was prepared to engage in a fight with Nick.

“Tell me, what did he do to you?”

“I'm fine. He's not bullying me. You don't need to do this,” said the boy.

As soon as he said these words, he felt Bella’s body relax. She let go of the fighting stance and gave him a tender look. Yet, there was still a dose of doubt in her eyes as if she didn’t believe entirely what the boy was trying to say.

She held his hand and gazed into his face. “Are you really okay? I heard him from above making threats to you.”

“No, we were just playing, like two brothers.”

Bella gave Nick a look full of contempt.

“He surely doesn’t look like the brotherly type to me. Shame on you for scaring the kid!”

Nick shot her a glance as if he wanted to rip her heart out with his own hand.

“I want both of you out of here right away!” he declared.
