Chapter 162 The Helpless Child
The blood being drained out of her body made her feel dizzy. Unlike the first time, she wasn’t afraid that she was going to die. Roy was standing right above her to make sure that everything was going fine.
“Mrs. Elsa, is Our Lady all right?”
“You sound like you are questioning my abilities,” was Elsa’s stern response.
“Who do you think is more important? Is it Our Lady who will give birth to Our Lord’s heir or Miss Spencer who saved his life?”
“I didn’t know that you were that qualified to discuss these things,” said the old woman in a harsh tone.
Roy was left speechless. He looked at Bella and his heart softened. “I just think it is so unfair for Our Lady. She took a bullet to protect the Lord; she has given her blood for the Kingdom of the Sea. But Our Lord does not seem to care about her.”
“Shut your mouth, young man and take this out of here,” she said and handed him the bottle with Bella’s blood. “Don’t forget you’re only a butler. The personal affairs of Our Lord are not your concern.”
Although she had scolded Roy, she believed he had spoken right. When they first found Bella, everyone was very excited but nobody cared about her feelings. To them, Bella was just a tool that would save the Sea Kingdom.
However, after being with Bella in the same house for so long, she had begun to have feelings for her. Everyone knew the story about her father beating her mother into a vegetable state and that Bella had agreed to give birth to a baby because she wanted to save her mother. They all knew how Bella was hit by a car, and how she got shot for his sake.
When Elsa changed the bandages on Bella’s wound, she saw her tears falling on the pink moon-like marks on her palm. The sad expression over Bella’s face made Elsa’s heart ache. She had witnessed with her own eyes how the Lord had walked away from Bella to respond to Miss Spencer’s ruse.
During her youth, Elsa had also loved a man, but that was hundreds of years ago. She had offered unconditional love to that man and only received pain in exchange. Now Bella’s experience was awakening the old memories she had buried a long time ago.
She shared Bella’s pain and knew there was only one thing that could cure her heart.
Bella woke up late at night. She felt much better now, a sign that the medicine had done its job. She drank some water and decided to do some work on the laptop. The windows were open, and the early autumn breeze blew over her hair. She turned around and saw
a huge vortex towering in the distance. It was so large it resembled a link between the sky and the sea.
Bella approached the window and stared at it with eyes wide open with surprise.
“Was this the legendary vortex?”
In an almost hypnotic manner, she went downstairs and headed outside. Luckily, there were no guards at the front gate to stop her. The only one who saw hear leave was Abraham, who at that time, was waiting in his limo.
When Bella reached the seaside, the vortex had disappeared and the surface of the sea was calm as if nothing had happened.
She walked along the coast, feeling the cool breeze on her face. In the distance, she noticed the outline of a human figure lying on the sand. As she got closer, she noticed that it was a boy of about nine or ten years old, entirely covered in blood.
She touched the boy’s cold face and looked around.
Someone in the distance was running towards her.
“Help us!” she shouted and waved her arm.
Abraham had followed her after she left the Mansion. He picked the child in his arms and they went back to the Mansion.
“We got to take him to Elsa right away,” said Abraham.
They knocked her door several times before she showed up in her nightgown. Bella didn’t like waking the old woman up in the middle of the night but there was nobody else who could help the child.
“What’s wrong?” asked Elsa.
“I am afraid that Our Lord is injured,” whispered Abraham close enough to the old woman’s ear so that Bella would not hear.
“Come on in,” said Elsa. “We’ve got much work to do.”
