Chapter 153 Seeing Nothing

“Bella is not a mermaid,” said Beck angrily.

Nick looked at him and raised his eyebrows. He didn’t seem convinced by those words.

“You don't believe me?”

“I believe you will not betray me, but I also believe that you will use every possible means to protect your little lover.”

“If Bella gets hurt, I will kill you.” While saying those words, the smile on Beck's face remained unchanged.

“Please don’t forget that my mother saved your life. How will you be able to kill her son?”

“It was Bella who gave me the winter coat which allowed me to hold on until your mother showed up.”

“Even if I don’t kill her that doesn’t mean she is not in danger,” said Nick. “Bullets can’t tell the difference between good and bad people. It’s hard to say that she will not get hurt. You got to keep your eyes open all the time.”

“I know very well what you are trying to do. On one hand, you want to figure out whether Bella is the person you’re looking for, and on the other you want to use her against Charles.”

Nick waved his hands and a servant carrying a food tray immediately showed up. He took a bite out of a sandwich and licked his lips.

“Then there is one more thing.”

“What?”

“I have heard that human women are very unfaithful.”

Beck looked at him with eyes full of dread.

“You wouldn’t dare!”

“Is that what you think? You had better guard her well or else I will make a move.”

Now Beck was getting desperate. This was exactly what Nick was striving for. He knew that he now held Beck in his hands.

“What if I promise you to test Bella’s blood type personally?”

“Sounds good.”

“But you got to promise to keep away from her if she is not the person you are looking for.”

“Okay!”

Nick smiled, and his dark eyes flashed with pride.

“We’re good then,” snorted Beck. He gazed at his watch. It was time for him to get out of this place.

Nick was thirteen years old when Beck met him for the first time. Even from that age, Nick displayed certain sadistic tendencies and always preyed upon those who were close to him. He realized that unless Nick personally tested Bella’s blood he would never leave her alone. The word of another person’s word was worthless to him. He wouldn’t even believe his own mother. These were the thoughts that crossed Beck’s mind as he drove away from the castle. At the same time, he was keeping his eyes open for patrol cars. The last thing he wanted was to be spotted by the traffic police.

At the same time, the high-level meeting of the Williams Group was about to begin. It was the first time that Bella was taking part in this type of meeting.

The room was full of people going back and forth, each one trying to figure out the position of his designated seat. Bella was about to ask Shirley about hers when all of the sudden Charles stormed into the room followed by a group of people. All of them were dressed in expensive suits and carried briefcases made of the highest quality leather.

Bella instantly realized that she was part of something very important. This gave her a sense of self-pride that she didn’t have before. Bella felt very happy for being a part of something so significant.

What she didn’t know yet was that the rug was about to be pulled from under hear feet.

“Bell!”

The person calling out her name was none other than Charles. Bella found the intimacy in his tone was too embarrassing. It made her want to vanish in thin air. Although most people from the top floor knew about their relationship, those from the lower floors were clueless.

The eyes of almost everyone in the room fell upon Bella. They gazed at her with intense curiosity, hoping that she would reveal what was going on between her and the boss.

She realized that she couldn’t ignore him in front of such a crowd.

A fake smile appeared on her red face and she began moving towards him.

“Yes, sir.”

“Sit over here,” he said pointing to the chair next to his. The tone of his voice was surprisingly gentle yet there was a strange light shimmering deep into his eyes.

“I will kiss you in front of them if you don’t do as I say,” he whispered close to her ear. The people around them were baffled by this strange and unusual exchange happening right before their eyes.

“My wife is sick,” Charles explained to them. “That’s why I want her to sit next to me.”

He grabbed Bella from the arm and steered her towards the seat. Despite feeling uncomfortable, Bella didn’t show any further signs of distress. She knew that if she expressed any dissatisfaction, Charles would attribute it to her unhealthy condition.

Charles grabbed her hand from under the table and leaned against the back of her chair.

“Any objections about my wife attending this meeting?”

Charles looked satisfied with the general response and hooked his fingers.

“Let’s begin now,” he commenced.

Ziv opened his briefcase and took out a file that he laid on the table in front of him. Bella listened very carefully to what he said and kept notes at the same times. Shirley had told her that this was what a secretary was supposed to do.

After the meeting, copies of the notes would be sent to the heads of various departments for confirmation before being sent to the company's internal network for publicity.

Bella wanted to work hard, but Charles didn’t allow her. He tried to stop her from writing and he would make circles in her palm using his fingertips. On some occasions, he would pinch her arm while pretending he was listening to the speaker.

During a PowerPoint presentation, Bella withdrew her hand and laid it on the table hoping that Charles would leave her alone.

However, she was wrong. The concept of embarrassment did not exist in Charles’s world.

“What's wrong with you?” he asked. “Do you feel uncomfortable?”

The eyes of everyone in the room fell on the two hands on the table. Ziv made a low coughing sound and all gazes returned instantly to the screen.

Nobody had actually seen anything.
