Chapter 150 The Lord’s Kindness.
To be an artist was Bella’s greatest ambition and dream. She liked to draw but the tuition fees of an art student were too much for her. Therefore, her only other option was to study by herself. That’s why most of her art came off as somehow amateurish, yet with a striking sense of personality that expressed her own aesthetic values.
If she could had known Edwin Beck earlier and could have heard his comment on her jobs, she would have agreed to his suggestions. But now she was trapped in a messy life without much freedom. She didn’t even know what the consequence would be if Charles found out that she had been with Edwin.
She was eager to grasp this unique opportunity that was offered to her. Very soon she would be able to move out of the Williams Mansion and do as Edwin had suggested, but for now, it was out of the question.
Edwin watched the sadness in her eyes, he understood what she was going through. He knew very well what kind of person Charles was, but for her sake, he pretended to overlook her sadness.
“I need more time,” she whispered.
He touched on her soft hair and smiled tenderly.
“I can wait for you whenever it’s one month, one year, even ten years.”
It sounded like an empty promise but those words managed to soothe her heart.
“You don’t need to wait that long.”
“I just want to tell you that you can keep on your pursuing your dreams because I’m willing to provide my support.”
“Thank you.” Bella sobbed.
“Come on. Cheer up!” said Edwin and gave her a pat on her shoulder.
“Aw!” cried out Bella and her face turned pale all of a sudden. He had touched the injured shoulder.
“What is wrong with you?” asked Edwin with genuine concern.
“Last night I got hurt because of my stupidity,” said Bella with unease. “As for the exact circumstances, I prefer to spare you the details.”
Having sensed her reluctance to speak, Edwin blinked for a second, but he still kept his smile.
“It must be an apple falling from a tree, and you just went under the tree.”
He was joking because he wanted to lighten the atmosphere.
“I have to leave now,” said Bella all of a sudden. She dared not to look at Edwin but looked around.
“I think a doctor ought to see that,” said Edwin pointing to her shoulder.
“He already did,” said Bella and without another word, hurried out of the restaurant.
Bella had to admit that in Edwin’s presence she felt like she was unable to hide her thoughts from him. His speech was always gentle and indulgent but always full of hints. She was comfortable with his clever words but some time they scared her. Especially when he was talking about Charles.
Edwin tried to go after her but changed his mind. He stopped at the entrance to the restaurant and started at Bella as she rushed into Carl’s coffee shop.
“Quentin!” he shouted aloud.
In less than a second Quentin stormed out of the kitchen with another dish in this hand.
“Want to try some paella?” he asked.
“That won’t be necessary,” said Edwin. “I trust your skills.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“I’ll need to go out for a while,” said Edwin and clutched the car keys in his pocket.
“Don’t worry about anything. I’ll look after things,” said Quentin.
“If you need anything, give me a call,” said Edwin and left the shop.
He took the elevator to the basement where he parked his Lamborghini. Before jumping into the front seat, he took out his phone and made a call to Nick Williams.
“Where are you?” he asked the moment he heard someone picked it up from the other end of the line.
“At home. What’s up?”
There was no reply to Nick’s question. The caller had already hung up.
In the meanwhile, Bella was at the counter of Carl’s shop. Fearing that the weight of the package would cause more discomfort to her shoulder, she called Abraham and asked him to come over and carry the coffee for her.
While she was waiting for Abraham, she tried to strike a conversation with Carl about Dora.
“Dora is my best friend, and she is very nice.”
Her comment made Carl smile like a high school student. When he laughed, he displayed two rows of perfectly white teeth.
“It is true, she is so nice.”
“The coffee you made was excellent, by the way.”
Then she pointed to a car that had just pulled over at the curb right outside the shop.
“That’s my driver,” she said.
Carl watched with his mouth wide open as Abraham came out of the car and bowed to Bella as if she was a member of the Royal Family.
He picked the coffee from the counter and went back to the car, deliberately ignoring Carl’s surprised expression.
“Got to go now,” said Bella and she left Carl gawking in wonder.
“Lady, Ziv just call a few minutes ago,” said Abraham when she was in the car.
“For what reason, may I ask?” Bella said coldly. She knew that he was probably calling on Charles’s behalf.
“Our Lord desires to have lunch with you, Lady.”
She wanted to ask Abraham how was she supposed to eat when sitting near Charles? She would lose her appetite every time she thought about him and Katherine.
“Our Lord treats our Lady so kindly,” said Abraham. “My brothers say Lord has charged a lot after Lady came to the Mansion.”
“If only you knew,” she wanted to say to the naïve driver.
“If you call that kindness, then what do you call the way he treats Katherine?” she wanted to ask.
Bella did not want to speak. She could hardly to hide her sore expression, but turned to the window silently.
Abraham however, could not stop praising Charles’s kindness.
“Our Lord never smiled before, you know, but now you can see him smile a lot. My brothers said that is because of Lady. Because of her, Lord seems to be behaving like a child.”
Why hadn’t Belle noticed this before? She shook her head in disbelief.
“Our Lord may has frightened our Lady on several occasions, throwing her into the sea on one of them, but that’s only because of his childish behavior. In the past he never frightened people.”
“Really?”
“Yes. He only beheaded them.”
Bella was speechless. Only a sadist would think in such a manner.
“If you think he treats me well, you ought to see how he treats Miss Spenser,” said Bella.
