Chapter 148 A Surprising Morning
At the end of the meeting, everyone received their daily tasks and hurried out of the room. The only ones that remained were Shirley and Bella.
“Could you go and pick Mr. Williams’ coffee from the shop? He will be arriving anytime soon.”
It seemed that having a higher share of responsibility did not mean she was dismissed from her previous duties. There was no point in arguing against it. She took the elevator downstairs and the moment she stepped out in the lobby she saw him standing in the lobby right in front of her.
Charles had just arrived in the company or a large group of people. She didn’t know who these people were, but they were obviously not his bodyguards. They must have been some very important clients, that’s why she decided to ignore him by lowering her head and looking the other way as she passed by.
Just as she was about to exit the building she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. At the same moment, his gorgeous voice entered her ear.
“Bella,” he whispered.
She paused and turned around. The fact that he had come after her made her nervous. His hand tucked a loose strand of hair over her forehead.
“My Lord,” she uttered.
“Where are you heading to?”
“To get your coffee,” she replied.
“No need for you to do that. Let someone else go,” he said firmly.
“I wonder what was Shirley thinking when she gave you such a task.”
“I don’t mind going,” said Bella.
“You got to wait for your wound to heal first.”
Charles looked down at her small hand, safely locked into his own. How could he permit this fragile creature to fetch his coffee after what she had gone through last night?
“I didn’t want to get on the wrong side of Shirley. Make her think that I was trying to dodge my duties.”
She didn’t want to tell Charles that the reason she wanted to go for the coffee was to escape from the office for a short period of time. It was quite depressing having to spend the entire day there.
Charles brought his head closer and looked at her. She looked back in a manner that reflected her anxiety and anticipation. The gleam in her eyes must have touched the softest part of him.
“All right,” he said. “You can go.”
“Yes!” she wanted to scream out with joy.
“But you must let Abraham come with you.”
“Is it necessary?”
“Absolutely. How else will I know that you’re safe?” With these words, Charles touched her hair with the tip of his fingers.
Bella’s eyes gleamed with a sudden flash before she lowered her head in a swift manner.
“Thank you, my Lord.”
Bella did not move and kept her head low. She was waiting for him to walk away but for some reason that wasn’t happening.
She raised her head hesitatingly.
“I’m leaving now.”
“Okay.”
While walking away Bella could feel his piercing gaze following her. After a while, she turned around only to see that Charles had returned to his clients.
“Lord is so concerned about his employees, that is why no one wants to leave the Williams Group,” said one of them.
“She is my wife,” he said proudly.
Ann awkward silence fell among the members of the group. Bella bit her lip and clenched her fists in anger. Why did he say such a thing? The more people knew about her, the more embarrassed her situation would be after getting a divorce.
Arriving at the coffee shop, Bella approached the counter and handed the invoice Shirley had given her to a young man in a green apron.
“I’m from the Williams Group,” she said.
“One moment please,” said the man and walked away.
He came back a few moments later with a brown bag, which he put on the counter in front of her.
“Here is your coffee, Miss,” he said with a smile.
“Why don’t you also made a cup for me?”
“With pleasure.”
At the same time, a couple entered the shop. They came right behind Bella and gave their orders.
“Special brew, no sugar.”
“Cappuccino, take away.”
They both sounded familiar so she turned around to see who they were.
It was Dora and Edwin.
“Oh, my God. Looks whose here,” said Dora and put her arms around Bella.
Dora was wearing overalls and a backpack was on her back. She was so surprised to meet Bella here in a coffee shop; they had not seen each other for a long time.
Dora turned her head uneasily and gave a quick look to young waiter,
“Carl, hurry up and bring me my cappuccino.”
Bella turned her attention to Edwin.
“How are things?” she asked him.
