Chapter 142 The Lady Has Always Been Sad

At that moment, Charles was alone with Katherine in the backyard of Williams' Mansion.

Katherine was lying on the bed, her  face pale and her hand stretched out from under the quilt holding Charles’ hand tightly.

Charles was sitting on the edge of the bed looking confident and at ease.

“Do you feel better?” Charles asked lightly, “Let Elsa come over to take a look.”

“No, I don't. It’s always been like this,” Katherine said, “Elsa said it could not be cured. It’s better when you're here. I have taken medicine, it’s better than bearing the pain.” I am used to the pain. It usually subsides when I take the medicine, but this time it hasn't.

Katherine’s words clearly touched Charles, who was in poor health because she had saved him in spite of the cold in the past.

“I will take care of you in the future.”

A little guilt flashed across Katherine’s frail face as she said, “Charles, I called you up suddenly and must have interrupt your work, right? I’m sorry.”

“Work is not more important than you.” Charles replied.

Katherine’s eyes immediately filled with tears and looked at him pitifully. “Charles, I didn’t want to call you either, but daddy is not here. I was especially lonely. I really didn’t mean to be a burden to you.”

“Don’t say that stupid word, you will never be a burden.”

Katherine put his hand on her face and looked at him with deep affection. “Charles, I am so happy now. You will stay with me today, right?”

“Alright.”

There was a long silence in the air, and Katherine held Charles in her arms and sighed, “I really hope to be your wife soon.”

After saying this, Katherine could clearly feel Charles' silence.

Seeing that he didn’t speak, Katherine said to herself, “It doesn’t matter. I will be very patient until you are ready to marry me.”

Having said that, she was expecting that Charles would immediately drive Bella out of the house. She had told Bella that she would let her go within five days and Katherine had planned for her to take leave of the house. Today she had horrible stomach cramps from her period and she would use her painful stomach to make Charles tell Bella to leave.

There could be no more than five days she had said.

“It’s going to be soon.” Charles’ voice was very weak.

“Well, Charles, I will wait. I have waited for so many years and I will keep waiting until you marry me. I will.”

Charles didn’t speak, he just held her hand tightly. Bella’s stubborn and indifferent eyes flashed through his mind and his heart was empty.

“Charles...”

Katherine called him.

Charles didn’t even know when had stood up

. He looked down and saw Katherine was looking at him pitifully. She eagerly said, “Charles, you just said that you would stay with me today.”

“Well, yes, I will accompany you.” Charles sat down again.

Katherine nodded, then remembered what he said at the top of the mountain. He said that he did not love Bella and his mind would never change. Charles did not return to the main villa until that evening. He had been with Katherine all day.

Returning to the villa for dinner, Bella couldn’t say how she felt when she saw the empty head table. She hoped that she would never see Charles again, but she still felt sad at the thought that he was with Katherine.

Loving a person might be like this, you could not help but put him on the heart while knowing that it was impossible and knowing that it was not right.

Roy looked over her eyes and asked, “Lady, the Lord is having dinner in the back tonight. It’s ready for dinner now, shall I serve you?

Bella  Brook replied, “Sure, thank you.”

The dinner was cheerless, she sat alone with maids on both sides of the table, and Roy at the head. Even though there were many people around her, Bella still felt lonely. She somehow felt Charles was pitiful because he had no friends, no one to eat with, no one to keep him from being alone.

Then she laughed, it was really a crazy idea. So many people in the world lined up to have dinner with Charles and so many people were willing to drive his loneliness away, so how could he be lonely? Just like now he has a beauty at his side, and it was she who was lonely.

Bella, just mind your own business.

She laughed at herself.

Her hand holding the rice trembled a little and a drop of tears fell into the bowl. She lowered her head and it seemed that no one noticed.

When Charles returned to the main villa late at night, Roy stood still at the door

He looked up at the second floor and asked Roy, “Where is Bella?”

“My Lord, the Lady may be asleep now.”

“Did she have a nice dinner?”

Roy hesitated and finally said, “Lady shed a tear while she was eating.”

Charles frowned slightly, “Follow me to the study.”

He went straight upstairs to his study.

Roy closed the door and stood reverently, “My Lord, any orders?”

Charles looked up at him. “Bella has been living here for a while. What do you think of her?”

He also asked Ziv this question and Ziv said that Bella seemed to have been very sad since entering Charles’s Mansion.

Roy, like Ziv, came from the sea, they were the closest persons to him. At this moment, he wanted to hear about Bella from others.

Roy was shocked. The Lord had called him into the study to ask about Lady Bella? Shouldn’t there be any arduous tasks for him to perform?

Seeing that he didn’t answer, Charles raised his eyebrows with dissatisfaction. “What? Is it difficult to answer? Or Bella makes you afraid to speak.”

“No, no, no.” Roy shook his head hurriedly, “It’s just a surprise. I didn’t expect the Lord to ask this question.”

“Why is this unexpected? Is there any problem to ask a question about my own Lady?

“No, of course not.” Roy replied. “It seems that the Lord is very concerned about Lady.”

“Do I?” Charles hooked his lips, “Maybe. But isn’t this a decent  society? Do we not care about the ones we are closest to?”

He sat behind the desk. The light in the study was very bright and behind the huge glass wall was a dark night.

It was hard to tell whether it was too cold that night or if the interior lighting was too soft, but Charles actually looked a little gentle.

Roy replied, “My Lord, from my observation of Lady Bella during this time, I think the Lady deserves to be the owner of the whole fish gene. She not only has the sensitivity of mankind, but also the rationality and stubbornness of our first-generation Mermaids. Although Lady Bella looks very sad most of the time, when  she laughs it's like the flower of the Tree of Life, sweet and lovely.”

Charles looked up at him, dissatisfied, “I've also seen her cute smiles.”

Roy bowed his head, “I only saw it occasionally. I will never see again again, I'm sure.”

Charles was a little annoyed and tapped a messy rhythm on the table. “How could she be so sad?”

“Lady Bella is always silent and sad when no one is around. I’ve seen her tears fall into the bowl several times in the Lord’s absence, but she always pretended to be all right and finished her meals.”
