Chapter 126 - She Slept Well

Her hatred did not last that long because she did not love him.

It was said that the best way to free oneself from hatred was to forgive their foe. Then they became strangers to each other.

She wondered when that would happen between her and Charles. If it was even possible, she wished that day would come as soon as possible.

Bella was somehow relieved because of Martin’s text message. She had cried during the day, so she felt tired now after she had concentrated all her attention on her research.

She lied on the bed and thought about what she would say to the client tomorrow and then fell asleep.

It was late. The clock showed that it was a new day.

In Katherine’s villa, the candles on her table were still lit. The two figures reflected in the lights.

Charles leaned back in the chair and looked at Katherine who slumped in his arms coldly, “Katherine, you are drunk.”

Katherine’s cheeks were red, and her eyes were full of coquetry, “I, am, I am not drunk... I can see my Charles clearly.”

She said in a childishly cute voice when in actuality she was two years older than Bella.

“You are drunk, Katherine.” He repeated, “I’ll get you to your room to rest.”

Katherine nuzzled against his neck with her head and said, “No, No. I just want us together, I won’t sleep. I don’t want to see anyone between us when I wake up in the morning.”

She mumbled as her tears streamed from her eyes. They dropped onto her body.

Charles frowned.

Another one?

Bella was right. Just as what she had said, Katherine was unhappy because of her existence.

Katherine felt that Charles was not happy and immediately got up from his arms. She looked at him and said, “Charles, are you angry?” She panicked, “I will be well behaved. I will go to sleep. Don’t be angry.”

Katherine acted more sweetly than she had before she was drunk, She served dinner and was obedient, but she was also afraid that Charles would be angry. So, she always watched her emotions.

Now, she was more cautious and afraid that he would leave her.

Maybe she was afraid and more cautious because of Bella.

But she was the daughter of Earl Spencer. How could she be so afraid?

Charles’s heart softened at the thought. He touched her face and looked at her gently. He would not forget that winter day when he was seriously injured. He escaped from the ice-cold deep, and Katherine carefully wiped the blood away with her handkerchief.

She was young at that time, and she trembled out of coldness. But she still warmed his frozen hands with her warm body.

Mermen did not need love. All they needed was offspring. But at that time, for the first time in his life, he had the desire to protect this girl for life.

He promised to grant one of her wishes. She said that she wanted to marry him when she grew up.

He agreed.

On that day, he remembered her, the daughter of Earl Spencer.

Charles felt guilty, but for his clan, he had to find the one who had the genes of the mermaid.

Perhaps, it was better to try the test tube way with Bella. Then she would leave Williams Mansion. Elsa would always find a way.

He said to Katherine gently, “I did not get angry. Katherine. I will never be angry with you.”

“Really?” Katherine's eyes widened out of joy. She then looked at him and pleaded, “Can you stay with me tonight? I have never been with you alone for a whole night before. Charles.”

Charles’s eyes darkened. She had forgotten that they had been together for a night before. The day she rescued him, they stayed in the cold cave together for a whole night.

But she was too young to remember that.

Seeing that he had no response, she lowered her eyes and said, “If you are afraid that you staying here would upset her. Then forget about it.”

She again talked about Bella.

Charles instantly thought of Bella as she cried in the restroom of his office.

Bella seldom showed her sadness in front of others. Even if she did so occasionally, in the end, it would turn into irrational anger, which made Charles’s empathy vanish suddenly. He would not hesitate to hurt her then.

He looked away and said softly, “I only care about whether you will be unhappy.”

Katherine kissed his cheek upon hearing that, “Charles, I know you are good to me.”

“I will walk you upstairs. Can you stand and walk?”

Katherine nodded her head and stood up, “Of course I can. I’ll show you.”

But she stumbled and almost fell after a few steps.

As she stumbled, Charles reached his hand out to hold her up.

“My little idiot, why do you try to be brave in front of me?”

Katherine looked at him with a pathetic look in her eyes, “Charles…”

Charles did not say anything then. He just held her up and looked at her, “Let me.”

Katherine onto held his neck with her arms and leaned against his chest. She nuzzled her head into his neck happily. The servants lowered their heads at the sight of that.

“Go take a shower and then sleep. I’ll ask the servants to help you.” Ordered Charles when he put her on the sofa.

Katherine had tears in her eyes when she heard that. “Are you leaving?”

She continued to beg, “No, you can’t go. You told me that you would be with me tonight.”

“Katherine, it’s late now.”

“Charles, are you really going?” Katherine looked at him sadly, “Are you going back to Bella. You two have been together all day long. You live in the same villa with her; you go to work with her. Just give me one night. Charles.”

Charles sighed and held her in his arms. He said gently, “I’m not leaving. I will not go anywhere.”

Katherine calmed down. “Just one night, I just want your company for one night.”

“Okay.” Charles smoothed her hair as he replied.

Bella would be shocked to see that Charles could be so gentle to someone.

The smile reappeared on Katherine’s face.

“I’ll go take a shower now. Don’t leave. Charles.”

“Mhm.”

Charles watched her go into the bathroom and then he looked at his watch. It was already half past midnight.

He stood by the window and closed his eyes.

Maybe it was because he was close to Bella that he could sense her the moment he closed his eyes.

She slept well. She looked quiet and had no signs of waking up at all.

How could she sleep so well?

Charles opened his eyes. He was fretful.

It turned out that she could be peaceful when he was not around.

When Katherine came out of the bathroom, she saw Charles as he stood in front of the window. He stood tall, but he seemed lonely.

She deliberately loosened the collar of her bathrobe, revealing her breasts. She strolled toward Charles and wrapped her arms around him from behind.

“Charles, are you thinking about me?”
